    Graff's bored.

    Belatedly - Thanks!

I'm going to have trouble not picturing her making that face whenever I bungle my way into trouble. It's a great 'Oh, you've GOT to be kidding me!' look.

Considering my penchant for digging my own grave, this will come up often.

    Graff's bored.

    Well, now I feel dumz.

    Nanao's a Katana/Willpower scrapper. e.e

I just really like the angle on her third shot. >.>

    Does this count as narcissism?

    Also, what the heck.

    Shameless plug!
  4. Very nice!

    And curvy. Rrrawr.
  5. ...Did I mention I also fail at directions?

Seriously. It's a running joke among my circle of friends that I am NOT allowed to be in control of getting to someplace.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go commit jigai.
  6. So, after messing around a bit with costumes the past few days in a surge of altoholism, I've come to the conclusion that I really fail at designing costumes. Sometimes, I hit on a really nice design purely by accident that I love ( Like Nanao ), but most of the time I end up just not being able to produce anything that I really *like*. And the urge to just go nuts with a fire axe all over the toon (when it's not their fault) is just a bit much.

But, I'm sure this is a common problem. What I have here, though, is a situation I'd like a bit of help in fixing. And maybe some tips to keep in mind when actually designing stuff that flows better.

Lately, I've been messing with 'classical' looks for heroes and villains, because I started reading in the 'silver age' of comics, and have been a fangirl over Legion of Super-Heroes for the longest time. I keep trying to recapture the magic there, but...

    It hasn't worked so well.

The problems - the left (Captain Empulse, a Rad/Elec Defender) just 'feels' all wrong. The color choices I can probably resolve on my own (what *was* I thinking?) but trying to create a pseudo-military look without using actual armor bits, and still capturing a 'classic' feel has escaped me. The only static parts of her costume at this point are her glasses and gloves (I like the look, and it's got a backstory basis).

The right (Caldanna - Energy/Cold Corrupter) I actually like, and think it works well... but I can tell it needs some major improvements (I'm terrible at color coordination) that I'm not sure how to fix. While I love the overall look (especially the shoulders/boots), if anyone has a suggestion on improvements that work out just as well, I'd be happy.

I think I'm mostly done rambling now. ._. Please, help these two girls get some fashion sense!

(Edit: Sorry, it was my OTHER left.)

that's pretty cool, neat concept, a costume that gives tribute to the original but at the same their own unique spin on it.

And manages to be equally swanky.
  8. ...Yanno, I may have to be more careful about what I put under my character's skirts, on that note.

All the same, very swanky piece, Soul_Train!

If you know what I mean. Nyoro~n. ;3
  9. Nice, clean stuff as always, and with a somewhat heavy message attached, too.

You get a thumbs up from me.

    Trust me, tracing LOOKS so much easier... and then, it turns into being just as, if not more, complicated. ;_;
  12. I'm fairly certain I stated that original credit for the background bit should have been given. It's not exactly something I'm going to argue, as I'm in agreement with that part of it. I think some of my terminology is a bit off, as well. Happens often enough with me, and it's one of the main reasons I tell people I'm terrible at explaining things. So, let's hop on the Wayback Machine and see if I can't better illustrate my point (Hope so!)...

Given the overall percentage of the image in question (original to borrowed - I hesitate to say copied here, necessarily, though that's certainly a term that could be used. I'm just not sure it fits given the context (or supposed context)), and the relative obscurity of the majority of the borrowed image, I would question it's relevance to the original accusation given.

Further, I feel that since the piece in question was decidedly non-profit (being a piece for herself), that it's not quite the level of what I would consider breaking copyright, or being definatively and beyond a doubt labelled theft with one caveat: Credit should be given where credit is due, and the original source of the background image (whether it's clipart or not) should be included in the description of the piece.

Also, I rather question the necessity of the excessive amount of quotation at the end. As stated, I didn't specifically recall anything I would have considered egging on, but upon review I can see where that conclusion could be drawn. Fair enough. Though, it would have been just as easy to mention one specific instance, in my estimation. The phrasing also tends to smack of snarkiness itself.

I'd be willing to apologize for my behavior, but only to the person they're directed at. Whom, from what I recall (going to review the thread to refresh) wasn't exactly the picture of tactful and mature behavior themself. Irregardless, my current statement stands.

Edit: Third quoted bit - I'd hesitate to say that was necessarily egging anyone on. Though, perhaps it is a little passive aggressive. Of course, that's entirely subject to opinion.

    Tell you what, Sayterra.

Find undeniable proof that her most recent work is copied from someone else.

Or her last few commission pieces, for that matter.

You can rant and rave all you want over what someone has done in the past, but find me examples that it's still happening, and I might be inclined to take your words with more weight then that of hot air.

    Savvy?

    You ask...I shall deliver:

The art in question is actually the background, the image was uploaded January 11, 2008: http://ladyentropy.deviantart.com/ar...kette-74369608

The original artist is Jen Delyth, who states very clearly on her website that her celtic tree of life IS NOT CLIPART: http://www.kelticdesigns.com/Pages/C...JenDelyth.html

    There you go.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    lol Jesus.

Sayterra layeth down the epic pwnage.

Also its kind of ironic to me that Yuri's sig has a "Only you can prevent Forum Fires" reference and if he/she hadn't egged Sayterra on by challenging them to find fault in the OP's art, this all might have died out nice and quiet like.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't see how a background image in a full piece (where the art itself, even if the background image isn't) it's the artists original work counts as 'pwnage' in this specific instance.

Also, I don't recall egging anyone on. I specifically requested undeniable proof that the accusations had some actual basis. So far, I haven't found anything that quite specifically says that the accused is stealing the works of others and claiming originality for commissioned pieces - using an image as a background part of a piece without citing the original source for it? Somewhat poor form, however that doesn't quite fit the original accusation given.

I'm sure that's going to be argued to no end, but I don't really see the point in derailing this any further. Sayterra, if you want to continue this, feel free to PM me about the issue.
  14. I think that one turned out pretty well.

Though, my only gripe is the text gets in the way of seeing her face clearly... but, it's kind of tricky to get that kind of thing lined up right, considering the effect you seemed to be going for.

    It's very cute, nonetheless.
  15. Bit late now, but maybe we can all learn something from this.

    Because now we know!

And knowing is half the battle.

...What? I'm not saying the last line. Heck with you folks!

    (Slides Anwyeth a cupcake.)
  16. I don't wholly think the phenomenon can be considered just an issue with artists. From what I can tell, it's a psychological thing that tends to crop up more often in fields where property is more intellectual or artistic then it is anything else. Saying I shouldn't get it because I'm not an artist seems rather silly, to me, for a variety of reasons that are probably best left out for now (unless you'd prefer me to go over them in the spirit of discussion - preferably someplace else, as the derail just keeps going).

However, what really bothers me about it is that it breaks what I feel is a good, solid communication structure for these matters. The first thing you should always do is talk to the person, privately, about the problem in a calm, mature fashion. Maybe they've grown out of a phase, or it was just a learning device. You don't know until you ask. If it's obviously the person in question just being a punk, then it's fine to blow the horn, so to speak.

This? Comes off to me more as an infantile gesture to bork someone's reputation for reasons I don't really understand, nor do I care to. While I will admit, Sayterra did have a point, Anwyeth admitted to using it as a learning device. The images in question are over four years old, and it's clear that she's found her own artistic style (which Sayterra seems to understand as well). If this had been handled privately first, it wouldn't have come off quite so hateful (and, indeed, that's what I'm getting via the tone of the posts done).

Just because 'it's the norm' is not a valid excuse for being a complete jerkwad about something that could have been handled maturely.

(Disclaimer: If I come off sounding a little mean in this post, I apologize. I'm tired as all buggery, and it's hard to stay objective in this state.)
  17. The Last Thing You Thought You'd Save People From contest?

Or, for villains, 'Extremely Desperate Evil Schemes'.

Essentially, the absolute last thing you would expect.

Example: Having to rescue the poor people of the city from ravening hordes of... animated doughnuts.

...I have no idea, I just like bringing that up.
  18. Hmm.

I'm torn between the 'Escape' key, or the 'Alt' key, for 'Hospital'.

Though in that last case, you'd have to relabel 'F4' to 'Call'.
  19. ...So what does it do instead?

    I'm genuinely curious! :O

Also, mine's labelled funny.. It just says 'Damage Lock'. :/

  20. Well, if you say so.

(Goes to cancel the train made of candy and crewed by penguins.)

I always get my best ideas at the last minute!
  21. Nah.

It's not like you need a critiquing license, after all.

...Or I'm guilty of so, so many charges.
  22. Scrapper lock may be cruise control for awesome, but you still need to steer.

    (Sidebar: I tittered.)
  23. I suppose the question I have foremost in my mind, at this point, is this:

Why didn't you contact her privately to converse on the matter in a mature, adult fashion? Did it just not occur to you that doing so publically not only hurts her, but damages you as well? If you're that concerned about the matter that you don't want her DevArt account suspended or banned, what purpose do your posts in this thread achieve?

I'm asking these questions seriously, because I just can't find any justification for this kind of action or attitude. You can roll your eyes and dismiss it as 'witty' whathaveyou, I suppose, but do please humor me so that I can better understand what motivation is.

Or continue to be rude yourself. C'est la vie, nes pas?
