Quote:But then instead of people being mad that it didn't come out when they said, they would be mad that it didn't come out when the WANTED. A lot of people regardless would have assumed it was coming out with GR and would have been mad if it didn't... Oh well... Can't please everyone!regardless of the posts and other conversations, it was never an "official" part of GR (ie website announcement) and although it is sad that its taken out and that so many of you are so mad about it, i bet posi and his team are working as hard as they can on it already. it would have been much better if they just said it was coming and they were actively working on it and not pinned even a preview to GR.

Quote:This is pretty much what is happening in this thread right now. The difference is that it wasn't even what the thread was about and it just started this huge discussion about the "state of the game" through the eyes of one player that thinks it's not Super Hero enough... Sure there are others that share your enthusiasm J_B, but sadly a lot of people like things like bunny tails, and a lot of other "un-superhero" related items. Will people be happy if they come out? In some cases, probably not. What one person will love, another will go "I didn't want that, I wanted XYZ!" The Devs simply can't win. The 'Question of Priorities' doesnt cater to one person. It has to cater to as many people as it can.
The big thing here, that I believe Dec already talked about or someone else, is that this game is VERY diverse! You can make your Superman type character with SS and Invuln and powers like that, or you can go the Batman route where he's got some kick butt MA, and you could get the Bank mish temp powers for the nice "utility belt" effect or any number of crafted powers. Or you could go more the fantasy route and do an elf, werewolf, undead monster, etc... One of the biggest draws to this game for me is that it's so diverse!
I never got in to any games like WoW because it's not diverse.... Plus you make a character on there, then there is practically NO customization options to make them look hardly different than any other character of the same race. Once you get tired of the whole "Fantasy" game aspect that's it... There is nothing else.
Is every power in this game "Super"? Well it depends on how you play your character. Batman isn't as much a superhero at alll. He's a martial arts master with some awesome gadgets which ultimately make him "Super". This game is much more than a "Superhero MMO" it's more driven by different comic book characters that use, pistols, swords, energy powers, maces, body shifting(rock armor... etc.), Super strength, Bow and Arrows, etc.
I think everyone should be happy the game is this diverse, but this is just my opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own. -

Quote:I don't believe CRUDD was saying that the pieces should give you powers. CRUDD just thinks that the jetpacks should be able to be made in to costume parts that can be used like the Rocket Boots when someone already has Super Jump or Fly. Otherwise they would just be another Temp Power.Well, mainly because if the wings and rocket boots gave you powers without having actually taking the powers would mean that actually having Super Jump or Fly would be a waste of a slot when you could just wear wings or boots. It's already been established that costume pieces will never give you powers in this game. If you want that instead of the current (permanent) system, go play Champions Online. If not, and this was merely an innocent question, there you go, enjoy the game. To go back to the menu, press the pound key.

You are correct... The situation as it is explained is not irony, but you can turn the words to make the speech about the situation ironic.
Quote:"It's a black fly in your Chardonnay." The expectation is that Chardonnay is fancy and expensive, but the reality is that a fly in it makes it quite disgusting. Thus irony.
"I hope you didn't pay extra for that." That would be as ironic statement. They know full well you paid for the drink and not for the fly in it, that now makes it undrinkable (I hope anyway unless you are nasty) due to the contamination from the nasty fly in your expensive drink.
Why is the event not ironic? Because it is not contrary to what you expected. Unless you were sitting there thinking, "I really hope a fly doesn't land in my drink." then one does, that is ironic, but otherwise it is not. There is more into something being ironic than an event happening that you didn't like or expect.
OK now the wedding day... Not ironic technically because it is not contrary to the belief that a wedding is the best day ever. For this to be contrary it would have to be the worst day ever because contrary is the opposite. I doubt that rain on someone's wedding day would make it the worst day in someone's life, if so maybe they should rethink how much they really love the person they are marrying.
Don't read too much into irony or you can't have fun with it. -

i·ro·ny
1 /ˈaɪrəni, ˈaɪər-/ Show Spelled[ahy-ruh-nee, ahy-er-] Show IPA
noun, plural -nies.
1.
the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, How nice! when I said I had to work all weekend.
5. an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected.
7. an objectively sardonic style of speech or writing.
8. an objectively or humorously sardonic utterance, disposition, quality, etc.
Synonyms
1, 2. Irony, sarcasm, satire indicate mockery of something or someone. The essential feature of irony is the indirect presentation of a contradiction between an action or expression and the context in which it occurs. In the figure of speech, emphasis is placed on the opposition between the literal and intended meaning of a statement; one thing is said and its opposite implied, as in the comment, Beautiful weather, isn't it? made when it is raining or nasty. Ironic literature exploits, in addition to the rhetorical figure, such devices as character development, situation, and plot to stress the paradoxical nature of reality or the contrast between an ideal and actual condition, set of circumstances, etc., frequently in such a way as to stress the absurdity present in the contradiction between substance and form. Irony differs from sarcasm in greater subtlety and wit. In sarcasm ridicule or mockery is used harshly, often crudely and contemptuously, for destructive purposes. It may be used in an indirect manner, and have the form of irony, as in What a fine musician you turned out to be! or it may be used in the form of a direct statement, You couldn't play one piece correctly if you had two assistants. The distinctive quality of sarcasm is present in the spoken word and manifested chiefly by vocal inflection, whereas satire and irony, arising originally as literary and rhetorical forms, are exhibited in the organization or structuring of either language or literary material. Satire usually implies the use of irony or sarcasm for censorious or critical purposes and is often directed at public figures or institutions, conventional behavior, political situations, etc. -

Just sounds like he's/she's being a butt to me, but if he's/she's not then he's/she's not! I've always had trouble discerning what people mean when they write in forums lol! I do apologize Frosticus if this is not how you meant it.

This is the kind of post I normally would say. In fact I did go as far to explain all of the ins and outs that I believe would be in the game because of all the new side switching missions and everything, but like Dec and others say, no one listens to us lol. They just want to gripe and complain!

Speaking of making statements when you don't know what you're talking about! DCUO is a FULL GAME... GR is an EXPANSION... This comment made me LOL... I love when people try to get other people to understand that they know less than they act like!

Quote:Basically this is what I said minus the missions lvl part... What are you getting at? Pheonyx said that on a team with 8 lvl 50's everyone except the leader will be lvl 49 which is not true. The only way I see the 50's being lower than 50 is if they do a TF or if they do a lower lvl mish, but EVERYONE would be the lower lvl. So again: what are you getting at? I'm not sure what you're trying to add unless it's just proof that his statement is incorrect lol! From the Issue 16 Announcement and information post, bolded for emphasis:
"Sidekicking Changes: Super-Sidekicking! One player can now sidekick or exemplar the whole team, everyone can always play together!
Each player in the group's level is set to the level of the owner of the active team task. If no team task is selected, everyone in the group's level will be set to the level of the team leader.
When the team level changes, players will be notified via a dialog and have the option to quit the team or immediately accept. The dialog will time out after 30 seconds at which point acceptance is implied.
While in the pending state, players cannot receive rewards and any critters they damage will be worth no experience.
Players can choose to auto-accept team level changes 0 to 50 levels above or below their current level.
Exemplars will now earn XP and a level capped person will get XP converted into influence like exemplars used to." -

Quote:thisI knew as soon as I read it there'd be some whining but, seriously. It's still going to happen, just when the rest of the system comes out.
I can easily imagine people whining when GR came out anyway, going 'Why give us one level if we have to wait till next issue for the rest? Waaah!!1'
