I was part of the "anti-ubber team".
It is really interesting to see that common used tactics are very different from one server to another.
@Knight Stalker' s team: something like 30 to 0... waouw. Defender, Troller & Blaster using flight was very annoying... nice tactic

thank you -
the nimmers wud die without me so i have to save them
nah i play it cos its fun, fast, unpredictable and refilling someones bar from red to green gives a huge rush -
[ QUOTE ]
and tired[/b] to see the same builds everywhere : storm controllers, energy (blasters, tankers), psi epics for trollers and defenders, body mastery epics for scrappers...
[/ QUOTE ]
never in a million years wud i pick psi mastery on my defender and in that match knight stalker was the only one out of the whole team that i had to use absorb pain on, neither squishy needed it but the regen did (just thought i'd say that to keep his ego in check lol) -
personally i think its a lot harder to counter attacks or tactics in pentad than 8man and thats where i believe there is more skill in pentad, i'll still be there for the 8man tho i probably wouldnt mind at all if we could find a regular 8man team, we have a regular 6 but struggle to fill the other 2 places usually

pointless arguement seemingly for the sake of it, fact is there is skill in everything that we do, most know how to write yet cannot write a book, most can run yet cannot break the 10 second barrier in the 100 metres race, some of us can solo Lusca yet most cannot, most can ride a bike yet most cannot do the tour de france.
Simple premise is this, there is skill in everything that we consciously do in life.

well put -
great fun again very good matches especially against LNM, hope its pentad again next week as it is far more fun, if its 8man i'll still be there tho

One of my friends plays Counterstrike a lot. Others play a few different FPS or stealth games. Their claims of "skill" mostly come down to fast reflexes and having a very fast computer system. Oh, and knowing the levels inside out.
I don't have fast reflexes, nor am I great at pixel perfect mouse movements. One of those could (in theory) come with time, the other I am never going to be able to do for a variety of reasons.
I am very glad that PvP here isn't along those lines... although my (limited experience of it) pretty much backs up the original statements.
If someone in a PvP zone was giving it the whole "ph33r my m4d sk1llz!" routine then I would probably snigger a bit, but give them the benefit of the doubt. There is limited skill here (like you say, knowing builds and powers) but there is that little bit. And not being a complete klutz generally. I spent ages practicing running and superspeeding along the top of fences in-game because I thought it looked cool, and superjumping across power lines.. ;-) All skill, of a sort.
[/ QUOTE ]
people see "limited skill" in pvp zones because they don't look for who is killing them and don't see how little the "skilled" PvP'ers die in the zone, if it were like the arena where u see how many times u die and how many kills the winning team makes u wud see the extent of "skill" -
[ QUOTE ]
Show me the skill involved when your villian has 8 heroes breathing down his neck.
Only way that i know to survive is just not to enter the zone and no skill involved there just common sense.
[/ QUOTE ]
i have said this so many times, the zones are not the only PvP, the arena is a lot fairer and far more fun imo -

Im getting tired of this, wanna meet me in the arena to show me your correct or are you afraid.

You seem to have something to prove Imaginary. If you think accusing someing of being too scared to fight you will get you a fight your sadly mistaken, dont go in for manipulation myself.
At the end of the day you and I are just two players in a multi player game who both have the right to say what they like on forums as long as it does not put people down.
As far as I know ive not done that and if I have it was not intentional and please except my appologies.
Never turned down a fight but quite frankly I have no intention to fight you as I have nothing to prove at all. It is, after all, only a game. You are welcome to take that any way you wish.

Suggestion for nxt post on PvP skill: "PvP = BF,Tab,f,1,4,Respite,2,6,Respite,4,2,"oh [censored]",luck,luck,luck,luck,respite,3,6,2,gloat over corpse on broadcast." .

then i'm not supprised u wont fight him, imaginary is just trying to prove there is far more PvP skill than you think -

i'll fight the energy/energy blaster with my fire/energy tank on test server and we'll see how low my dmg output is i've beaten many of the best blasters 1v1 on union

I think I specifically mentioned "defensive" tanks.
[/ QUOTE ]
the quote i saw:
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
But that Tank or Scrap is pretty much impossible to kill for a solo blaster in the 32+ game. See how it all balances out there?
[/ QUOTE ]
No, because the solo tank is unlikely to kill the solo blaster given his low damage output. I can confirm that with an nrg/nrg blaster my regen scrapper will only win if he has IH available. If he doesn't then he loses. I had the opportunity to run some tests with a tame blaster in Warburg.
Personally speaking, I don't think a solo ANYTHING should be able to beat a tank that's got all its shields at max as in my experiece a defensive tank can't kill anything on its own. It should imho take a couple of blasters minimum.
Consider that 3 scrappers can't take down a granite tanker unless they've got a spare half hour why should a solo blaster be able to manage it?
[/ QUOTE ]
the above quote says nothing about "defensive" tanks and if this was mentioned earlier why wud a "defensive" tank ever want a 1v1 against a /energy blaster? -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
no he argued it requires the same skill as riding a bike i agreed (being sarcastic cos i completely disagree with Hobo) saying there are basically as many levels to riding a bike as there are in PvP
[/ QUOTE ]
There aren't many levels of how to ride a bike, you get on and pedal - as long as you have a sense of balance you can do it.
Tour de France is how fit you are, BMX Championships is how much you can say "dude" with a bandana round your forehead.

I want the same fight. The nrg/nrg blaster vs. my regener. I wont use IH.
I can easily beat blasters without IH in 1on1's and have done it loads of times.

and when exactly did blasters get mes protection? why do so many tanks think they're so underpowered if their mes protection goes down, a blaster is completely reliant on bfs, how is poppin a bf and figthing back so brain numbingly hard for tanks? i love fighting a blaster with my tank
[/ QUOTE ]
You don't think that the fact that toggle-dropping is so easy, (making the primary powers of tanks almost redudant whilst not affecting blasters at all) does not take away the effectiveness of tanks in any way? I don't think that playing a tank isn't possible, or isn't fun, but you become something other than a tank. The blaster AT isn't affected by this at all, whereas the tank/scrapper is.
[/ QUOTE ]
very valid points and i agree that it does take away a little of tanks effectiveness in terms of the tank build. However if toggle dropping was not possible it wud be very very hard to take down a tank in PvP. As toggle dropping stands in 1v1s I have very very close battles with the best blasters on union, I usually win but not by much, to me this couldnt get much more balanced and I think if toggle dropping percentages were to go down I could kill the blaster so much easier in 1v1s. In teams the tank would never be killed and wud be free to perma taunt blasters without any fear. I just hope these "nerfs" to toggle dropping isnt too extreme because I have never used a blaster, have 2 tanks and see no problem with it. -

i think hobo summed it up brilliantly, PvP skill is the same as bike skill, any1 can with practise ride a bike, any1 can PvP...
But tell me why i can't compete at world BMX championships or why i can't perform a backflip on a half pipe while on a BMX? Or why i can't go out and win the tour de france?
in simple...there are hugely different levels of skill and this is a perfect illustration for PvP, any1 can do it but to be up there with the best it takes an extremely higher level of skill

i have no problem with my tanks toggles being dropped, just dont stand toe to toe with them, find a way to fight it and do it, even with no toggles u still have a self heal and far more HP than a blaster...
too many tanks think they can just stand there and shud not be able to die which is why they winge about toggle dropping, i think its good and wouldnt change it
edit: i think what needs to be changed is the reduction of animation times of toggle activations like energy toggles instead of standing in a stupid pose for ages
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't entirely disagree with you, however, tanks have to rely on BFs for one thing and mobility for another. A decent blapper will destroy you in seconds through stuns and damage. You can't re-toggle if you're stunned and the damage output of a blapper far exceeds stun time. It's possible to play like this but hardly very effectively against someone who knows what they are doing. Tanks are currently absurdly under-powered in PvP.

Besides, If my blaster for example would be on the other side,I think Id just 5-shot my tank and proceed to beat the defender to bloody pulp.

Wait, so you reckon you could 5-shot a Tank with an Empathy Defender sitting behind him? Nah, don't think so.
[/ QUOTE ]
I cant even kill a squishie with a good empath backing him.

You couldn't....ponders for a moment....one shot the Empath?....you're right! that's just what they would expect! and therefore! do the opposite! attack the tank!

i would pay good hard cash to see someone one shot my empath -
we fought LMN last pentad night and beat them 3-2, awesome match with us winning by Gat getting a kill with nuke in the last 2seconds

Imho we are as good in PvP as the French its just that we havent yet pulled all the best players in one team to go down the test server and have a proper 8vs8. Maybe i am wrong this is just my opinion.
[/ QUOTE ]
if a humble union pvp'r may offer a comment a team of 5 good pvp'rs can do very well against the french as teams from union have beaten the french in pentad many times, the trouble with 8man is u need more than very good pvp'rs, what the french have mastered is exceptional teamwork and tactics in their 8man team, although we have beaten a couple of their 8man teams a few times. the key in our victories last monday were seperating their team
the real feared 8man team from france is pimms team (i believe there are 4 teams in total) -
