Trust me, it's more than possible. Maybe not in PvP, but one shotting does, can and will occur in PvE. Thats what makes snipers such a pain to face in certain zones. Its what makes Bosses with certain powers in AE really hard to balance (Build up and Headsplitter, Energy Transfer, Total Focus, anything ST and high damage. Still one hit.)

    Bad Points: Uhm....everything else?

Chalk me up for 'prefered the old UI, even if it was a three legged mule.' It worked. Why change the bit that worked great to fix the one thing (albeit the thing that was very crippling for people with slower connections, I know it used to be the same for me) that didn't work?

Devs, please...can we have this changed back?

I think the same mechanic is why you can plummet and drop down to 1hp, but never be killed no matter how long the fall is.

I suspect this is more to balance Giant Monsters, how unfair would it to be one shotted by a giant monster as you're loading out a mission?
I can let you fight the bugger if you like, once I add Build up back onto him. Katana/Regen Scrapper, level 32. One shot, one kill. It was just the boss. Trust me on this one, it was a rather distinct Oo moment.

That depends wholly on your character.
IC vs Game Mechanic, Chief, Vixen, Wolf and Fox shouldnt have to take ANY damage from simple machine guns (except the sort of anti-everything ammunition folks like Malta would pack), due to armour and being made out of metal. Sure, they worry about other things, like flamethrowers, sonic cannons and giant, super-strength wieldeding claws, blades and massive missile launchers.

Some things we just have to hand wave, hate them though we may.
Like the fact im coming to realise, that it's impossible to make the Chief properly in game until they give us a PPD hardsuit powerset with guns/armour combo =[

It's possible that some how you could be hit hard enough that the D.O.T component of an attack could take you down, but that mechanically counts as two hits.

In an in character sense, I've always explained it as the medical systems stabilizing a person prior to teleporting them.

Of course that's just my opinion on the IC/GP mesh, others are likely to disagree.
    Not true, actaully.
Otherwise the custom boss in the AE mish I was testing out wouldnt have been able to use BU+Headsplitter to one shot me. Which he msot definately did.

Unless PvP mechanics stop one-shotting, which is more than possible, given how wierded up they are.
  8. I'd just like the options for Slicer, Longfang or Webmaster (the one we get atm) backpacks.

    And yes, they are different. If you haven't noticed, let me show you;

    Slicer. No glowy bits, longer spikes;

Longfang. Short/next to no spikes, glowy laser parts.

Webmaster. Spikes and laser parts. What we get atm.

Even those choices would be cool.
Hmm...those pics make me tempted to go and replace a lot of the really old pictures on the wiki...
  9. The look of the new one, from the little I saw on test (havent gone back to it on Live yet) reminds me of the EVE interface...

And, believe me, EVE warped my head something awful ><

"This is a warning to those heroes of Paragon City, stay out of our way...this is far more personal than you could imagine...since you have failed at cleaning up this Humanity First filth, who preach hate and lies within your own city, to ignorant, uniformed citizens who have no right to decide on ANYTHING!"

Edward took a deep breath, "People of Paragon, by now you know of Project Chimera, I will say this...Project Chimera is Alpha and the Omega. She will be the start of a new breed of superhumans and she will be the end of Humanity First..."

"Ordinary citizens, you have nothing to fear, you will not be harmed this is personal business...the same goes for you caped crusaders out there, as I said before...stay out of her way and the only ones that will be hurt are those faschists in Humanity First."

"If there's one thing I cannot stand...it is bigots...whether they discriminate against gender, age, skin colour, religion or the empowered...I am a fair man, I have no bias against those wishing to partake in the New You program...any and all are welcome at the Toasty Dreams private hospital, I never turn a soul away because of who they are...I am empowering those who are informed enough to make the right choice...to choose freedom..."

    "Paragon City...consider yourself warned...."

With that the signal cut out, returning to your scheduled programming.
"Great, just what we need; Mad Science and Fascist nutjobs duking it on the streets."
"You know that's not going to happen."
"I like the way you think, Chief."
"So, I take it that means we're turning up?"
"You can try and stop me keeping an eye on it if you want..."

"Enough." The figures took a step back from the monitor they had been watching. The largest, a towering being of silver steel and red markings, the robotic extraterrestrial hero Chief Centurion Z1, folded his arms.
"We will be going. First, I'm curious to hear what these goons have to say. Second, personal or not, this is Paragon City. Edward Mechano is a wanted criminal. And we will not stand idly by and let chaos over-run the place.

The two power armoured brothers, Z22 Pyre Fox and X21 Ice Wolf, known to most by their fire red and icey blue armour and as Fox and Wolf to most, exchanged a glance, before nodding.
"I'll keep up high. You know me and crowds," Wolf said quietly, shifting the redding rifle that was strapped over his back.
"Heh, I've got a few questions to pose to the fascist fanbois," Fox chuckled, making a show of cracking the knuckles of his suit. "And a few burning responses if needs be."

The last figure, a slim and shapely young woman with firey red hair and, more eye catching, brick red fur and pointed fox ears, sighed as she pushed her round glasses back up her nose.
"In that case, I'd better be on damage control," Kitsune Vixen quipped, giving Fox a wry smirk. Doctor at Chiron Centre in Atlas, field Lieutenant and medical officer for Vanguard, she was no slouch in a firefight, but her psychic powers and empathic aura were also put to good use when it came to healing. "Make sure you lot don't get carried away."
"We'll have the crowd and the conflict to deal with," the Chief pointed out, giving the screen a long look. "One can only hope we're not the only ones to take note of this...And hope no one acts too rashly, either."
  12. If I could have done this with my first Tanker, I would have made him Energy/SS with Invul...Just Invulnerability, I think. Its more his attacks that have never sat so well with me.

Then again, doing him justice in game has proven harder than I thought as it is.
  13. I think this is also why I picture Recluse very much like Lord Vetinari, of Terry Pratchett's Discworld;

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Havelock_Vetinari

He's not popular with everyone. Some people loathe every breath he takes. He's a politcal genius, a mastermind, a trained master assassin in his own right, has an army of attack clerks and ninja lawyers at his disposal (I kid you not. Think of Oddjobs hat...) and a self declared Tyrant and Dictator.

And he's utterly indispensible. The times where people have made attempts on his life or attempts to replace him have shown this in no uncertain terms. The city bends and creaks when the man who keeps the cogs oiled smooth is taken away. Everyone says 'Oh, things were better before all this', but they are rich, organised and prosper BECAUSE of the Patrician.

All he has to do is BE. And thats where Arachnos fails, because they interfere and take far too much of a hand in things. If they were more like the City Authorities under Vetinari, intervening where necessary, and with suitable wheel greasing (troop movements, mercenary contracts or making offers to reknowned Villains, e.g. us lot) then it would read, sit and play a lot smoother.

    /Opinion
  14. This is why I utterly, utterly despise 'Patron' pools being locked away behind an arc.
This is why I was actually cussing when I found out that, to do the end level content, I had to have bowed and scraped to Arachnos through two long and mediocre arcs.

"Oh, you cant have these better powers without kissing Arachnos' boots."
"Oh, your level 50 and are really tough and experienced, but we wont let you do the last SF because you didnt kow-tow to us."

    Go to hell, Spider boy!
Why should, for example my Stalker, Von Schaden, have to do Ghost Widows arc to unlock shadow powers? She's, what? 40-ish? If she was still alive? I dont know, nor do I really care. Max Von Schaden is an 113 year old German cybernetic-super-soldier who spent his Nazi years being an assassin and shadow master, who specialised in using and killing magical techniques, heroes and beings. Why the HELL does he need 'permission' from some dead ***** to use powers that should come naturally to him?

(Sorry GW, I think your cool really :P But the mechanic sucks)

Unlocking Villain PPPs and, heck, giving them MORE would be a big move towards this, IMO. That and the LRSF. If he wants States dealt with, he can damn well cough up and hire the best. End of discussion. I shouldnt have to bow and scrape for the dubious honour of getting beaten up by the cheaty, overpowered Phalanx.
(Yes, sorry, I hate that last mission too. Its basically Jackanism in purest form, and its fail)

Right now, the game lets you successfully kill, kidnap, rob and destroy while working for Arachnos - you're given various evil tasks, and you carry them out with 100% success.
Would it really be more fun to swap you career of successful evil for one of failed evil just because Recluse won't say "please" or "thank you" or invite you round for a beer to watch the game?
GG, I'm sorry, but I'm being serious here. As other people have said, you haven't played Redside. Ever. You really don't know what the heck you are talking about when it comes to redside. Period.

Arachnos is a really BAD game mechnaism, shoe-horned in by Jack. Yes, they are cool. I really like Arachnos, myself. But the way you are FORCED to kow-tow to them is not, and that is what really should go.

Thats pretty much what Alpha would say to Recluse if he treated him like a minion. He doesnt care about Arachnos world domination plans...so long as they stay the frag outta his way.

Not like Statesman the ARCHVILLAIN in To Save a Hero, where spawns as a level 54 Archvillain and proceeds to hit people for 5000 hit points per punch. Jack's subtle way of reminding us that the Statesman is and always will be better than us.

That's I1, though. In I11, you can slap the guy around on your own, which shows me, at least, that the development team is leaning our way, at least a bit. The Statesman is still tough as nails and he still cheats, but he's beatable with enough bravado. And that, really, is all I can ask for.
If Statesman can nearly die from a nuke, then my main character should be able to give him something to cry about. Alpha is an Army of Seven, him and his team. They pack enough firepower to phases Statesman. So the LRSF is really a big 'F U' from the Jackanist era that I really hate. I will re-run it and beat it this time (Got mah nukes ready...) for the hell of it...then probably never touch it again.

I think it's the most reasonable way to explain why you can't go visit the other side - if there's no open world PvP, then there has to be some reason for heroes and villains to be kept apart - and Arachnos works just fine for explaining why we can go over to the Rogue Isles and force the villains underground.
Yeah, I don't mind Arachnos being the big-bad. IMO, it does work, and fits with the 'So long as you dont mess with them, they dont care about you' thing.

The problem is, they then go and ruin it by tying nearly all your contacts into Arachnos. Project Destiny, the Arbiters, the Quatermasters, all that schtick. Thats not 'Go, be a great Villain, just dont mess with my plans!' and more 'Go, do as I say, and dont question me, or you die! Mwahah /e moustache twirl'

Last I checked, Recluse didnt have room for a moustache. I always imagine him being much more enigmatic, a bit like Lord Vetinari or Dr Doom. He certainly sounds it in the CoV CGI trailer. Then they go and ruin it a bit in game, which is a shame.
    Curse you, Jack...

  21. Teams of all DS MMs are really rather destructive. I was out Bruted, out Dommed, out everything. Heck, it was hard to get to the mobs sometimes.

And yeah, FotM dies down, every time It can be funny while it lasts though.

I want to, when threatened or blackmailed, to have my reaction be to slap the guy in the mouth and still come out victorious DESPITE what he may want me to do. If defying someone is going to have consequences, then put me through the consequences. I don't mind. I'd sooner get the crap beaten out of my and snag a victory by the skin of my theeth than kowtow to Daos because he said so.

You know what? I feel it was a capital mistake to tie CoV's infrastructure to Arachnos so completely. We rez at their reclimators, we shop at their Quartermasters, we train at their Arbiters, we fly on their choppers, we confer in their Fortunatas... This is not good, people! Why can't I train with some underground unofficial sensei down in the sewers? Why can't I shop for enhancements from the "connected" neighbourhood bartender? Why can't I resurrect in the shanty town illegal reclimator? Just ANYTHING that doesn't tie me to Arachnso! Then we wouldn't have stupid arguments like "Yeah, well they can just turn off the reclimators and you're dead!" Now that's a narrative cop-out if ever I saw one.

How's about this: I give Daos the finger and next mission I walk into an ambush mission. I walk into a door, fade to black and I wake up in an Arachnos cell. O noes! Whatever will I do? Well, kick down the door, to start, then carve a path through their base big enough to sink ships in, and pinch my way through back topside. Then I waltz back to Daos and see him try not to sweat bullets. Good times

Point is, let me defy Arachnos, let me walk into trouble, let me get myself cursed. Let me do STUPID things, and just slap me with severe consequences that I can eventually fight my way out of. That way, it still feels like everything is my choice, because when people try to act tough with me, I defy them. Even if defiance is the only option, it still assumes my character can think for himself.
Hrm...I think maybe they should tie a LOT more importance to the choice of trainer at the beginning.

Kalinda = Loyalist. You are willing to be a part in the machine. Sure, you may scrape a big something off the top and the sides where you can, but Arachnos seem like a decent way to make a mint, get to who you want to get at, or whatever diabolical (or not) goals you have in mind.

Burke = Army of One. The system? The system is what you say it is. Arachnos can have their Darwinism alright, on the recieving end of your boot. They get in your way, you crush 'em. Anyone gets in your way, you crush 'em. Heck, anyone looks at you wrong, you crush 'em! Rules are something other people abide by! Let the rise begin!
  23. Hence my like of the new missions.
You still end up doing the same things. You still end up beting on x number of enemies, you still fight certain groups, and you have the same end boss.

But you PICK how many X is, you can do things in slightly different ways, you can choose bits of the aftermath. It might not be 'huge' choice, but its enough to really add enjoyment to it.

    when ?

    Suggestion;

Rikti AT. Unique, side specific storylines (Options of Lineage of War (Evil) and Traditionalists (Good). Branching AT much like VEATs.

Rikti Earth zone. More in depth on the backstory. Maybe allow the treaty to go through (although that would require more rewriting.)
