i think the word "need" is often not used literally in the game
substituting it for "would be better off with" probably conveys something closer to the intended meaning
now to be sure there are going to be cases where people do mean it in a literal sense but my experience says they're in the minority so quitting any team in which a "need" for x is brought up seems like an overreaction -
-
here is a test: if a teammate says, "we need more mitigation," do you look for a blaster or scrapper, or do you try and find an available tanker, defender, or controller?
-
conveience is probably part of it but if ma teams are any indication repetitive content isn't much of a turn-off

Quote:here i will point out that you did not actually add anything meaningful to the argumentHere I will point out, once more, that your points would hold that much more weight if you'd bother with the basics. You know Punctuation, capital letters...all that good stuff. There is nothing wrong with that signature image and the people taking dire offence are just trying to find something in it. As he's pointed out - character = the devil, characters in the signature and avatar are the same, even if done by different artists and people aren't seeing the whole thing.
if you go back and suffer through all my punctuationless posts and then respond to the points raised we might just get somewhere
i will say that "dire offense" is, in all likelihood, not what anyone is actually experiencing
the actual emotion is probably closer to "distaste" which i think is a reasonable reaction due to the picture depicting a woman being graphically impaled -
here, i will share another thought you will not care about: you're too attached to your silly little drawing to actually discuss this and would rather cast any dissenters as stupid, prude children than actually consider their positions
-
the game is as violent as a saturday morning cartoon show
your sig is, you know, more so
and i think extra context is needed to make that picture more than your character violently killing someone -
Quote:you're confusing the issueYou go on being offended by whatever you desire to be offended by. Don't expect me to understand it, don't expect me to sympathize with it, don't expect me to think highly of you for it.
Art is supposed to create a reaction, this is true. However, to censor ANY art because of that reaction is the height of ignorance. I've seen works that made my stomach turn. I applauded it for the artist's ability to do his/her job. I didn't spit on the artist or the work.
EDIT: To put it another way, any drawing of any event, no matter how grotesque we may find the act it *represents,* is still nothing more than lines on paper or graphical representations of 1s and 0s. If you can't separate reality from fiction, there's no help for you.
a piece of art that offends my moral sensibilities may indeed be an amazing work due in part to the feelings of repugnance it elicits, but this isn't about the ethics of aesthetics, this is about appropriate context
as mentioned before, the forum as a whole has no knowledge of your character's backstory or the story behind the picture itself, so right off we're missing a lot of the information that would be relevant in correctly interpreting the work
what we're left with is an arguably gruesome image just laying around in a message board for a t-rated game and you want to claim that anyone who raises an eye over the content is a easily-offended and incapable of separating reality from fiction -
Quote:pathetic is a great word to describe people who don't share your standardsI find it highly disturbing that so many humans seem incapable of differentiating artwork from reality.
It's quite pathetic, really. Were it an actual picture of a woman actually being impaled, then you might have a case. As it is, it's obviously a depiction of two completely fictional characters in a fictional environment.
I could go on with my opinions of such people and their easily offended sensibilities, but it would bring a mod-smack upon me the likes of which I've never dreamed.
if you are claiming that one can't legitimately find something constituted by fictional entities objectionable, then i hope you could explain why it is that we shouldn't be offended by something like the animated rape of a fictional child -
there are minimum post count and reputation count variables in vbulletin that the admin can set
if you don't meet them, you leave neutral rep
don't ask me what they're set at here because i have no idea -
you don't find anything questionable in a scantily-clad woman being graphically impaled?

Quote:there is something very freudian about reactions like thisAh, Reputation.
Most ******* retarded idea we've seen on these forums for a while. Similar to the retarded Star system to be honest. It's simply another way for people to circle-jerk and form cliques.
T'hell with that folks. As the signature says...got something negative to say? Then have the guts to do it to my face or through a PM if you must insist on being civil. Only cowards hide behind the mask of anonymity making snide remarks.
I'm Flea. This is a forum handle, sure. But you can guarantee when I sass you or shoot your ideas down it's me doing it, not some anonymous little snippet given through a reputation system.
i think you feel threatened by the anonymous buzzing gnats that you can't directly address so you come out with all this bravado demanding the direct confrontation that you so desperately need for validation
the clique/circle jerk argument is something that gets tossed around without much evidence behind it but i'm guessing you're just using it as an attempt to put something empirical in front of your feelings of threatened masculinity
yeah, i'm armchair psychoanalyzing. don't like it? why don't you negative rep me over it -
-
-
wow bigtop those negative rep-givers you described are sure bitter, antagonistic strawmen
i sure hope i never meet one of them -
i'm not sure you really understood what i was getting at but you probably got the gist so i guess that's alright
-
the punchline is that the post i was responding to was quoted
edit:Quote:voting people down on the internet is not something i consider abhorrentAll I want to know is "Why?"
Is it fun? Do you get jollies off from it? Is your middle name Schadenfreude? Do you like to kick people for no reason? Do you simply use the anonymity of the internet to cause other people grief? I'm simply trying to understand why someone would do something that, to me, is totally abhorrent.
normally, i would reserve the use of the word "abhorrent" for really bad things like, i dunno, genocide or torture, but hey, i guess we've got different priorities -
it appears we're having a failure to communicate. allow me to attempt a solution: read both of the following posts, in their entirety. the first one is the post i was responding to. the second one is my post.
Quote:Oh, and to the person who so graciously took the time to give me negative reputation for my first post with the comment "Who cares about reputation. It's meaningless" please have the courage to tell me your name, here, publicly, instead of hiding behind an anonymous comment about something that doesn't matter to you. Thank you, and have a pleasant evening.Quote:i wasn't behind that first bit of negative rep, but i'll take credit for hitting this stupid callout
what possible use could you have for their name aside from some measure of petty vengeance?
if you still are puzzled, please do not hesitate to voice your confusion and we can start going over individual words. -
putting aside that saying "rep doesn't matter" isn't harassing or foul-mouthed in the least
if you do think that whatever messages you've received are That Bad, pm a mod saying, "hey people are sending super mean things to me" and they are capable of taking care of it without you even coming into further contact with your invisible aggressor -
