And this is why this game is awesome; because of stuff like this.
Keep it up buddy, practice really does make perfect. You seem to have a good grip on proportions and stuff already (arms, legs and other bits all look 'right' in comparison to one another) so, yeah...keep it up! -
Quote:*Ahem* Gentlemen;Original Post updated with Krimson Guard, no link added though as I couldn't find one.
As for everything else, I'm glad you've all kissed and made up now but couldn't you have had the courtesy to take it to an OOC thread for the plot? Not really what I'd intended for this thread.

You're all spelling it wrong

Quote:Where do I sign up to be your lackey, oh master?Hmmm.
1. Start the PVP overhaul. Instead of a giant I13 "drop the bomb," start rolling back or adjusting a bit at a time. Given 3-5 months between issues, changes would be made either each or every other issue, datamine it and tweak as needed. (Probably with a mid-issue adjustment.)
2. Yes, costume creator overhaul. Some of those lists get long. While overhauling, try to set it up so that nobody has to go and have the tailor say they have to pay for things that aren't changed... Also, non-shiny-metallic options.
3. Base/SG overhaul. This starts from the Registrar's desk on down. Make finding/contacting a SG easier (as well as letting them describe themselves better,) redo the base editor, make the bases more fine-grained, long hallways, raise only part of a floor instead of the large blocks, have a PVP vs non-PVP base "checkmark" that will check for pathing and mark your base as raidable, sort items by scale, put in more items - the list goes on.
4. Expanding the world - and adding more EATs. Spread out to Europe? More Incarnate lore, perhaps. Egypt? Bit of time travel and more reason to focus on lore with the Blood of the Black Stream. And yes, the Coralax as we go underwater... somehow.
5. Polish and add content. Dark Astoria, the Shard, Crey's Folly all need content. Bring all of COH up to the same graphical standard. (This is, of course, a long term project.) Start the rebuilding of Boomtown as a 2-3 year, multi-issue project.

Pretty much what Shadowe said.
Heck, we've had alien invasions, black ops fights, currently got an Arachnos Regiment waging war against a group of Praetorians, a lot of stuff. It still feels big, even if it's not 'world changing'. -
Quote:CB, I can RP Alpha just fine. RP is meant to be pretendy fun-time games, not a freaking job.If you can't RP a superman OOC, then please don't roll one IC.
The mantra 'RL>RP>EXP' has been used in the Corp for a long, long time now, and I think it should bear true for pretty much everything else.
If what you say were to be true, then no one should ever RP a character using powersets as proxys, or fudging costume details slightly, and they sure shouldn't have more than one powerset per character, or ever break WYSIWYG ever, at all, never ever. Because that'd be breaking the exact same rule. -
Quote:Sorry. But being referred to as 'cliques' and 'insular little group' and-Whoa, whoa, whoa. Chill there a sec. I told you in a perfectly normal, straightforward, and entirely civil manner how I feel about this, why I feel that way, how this looks from my point of view, and then requested multiple times that if I was wrong I please be told so.
How is that exploding?
As to what I want you to do? Communicate with those outside your insular group when creating things that will affect them. What's wrong with kicking a quick PM or such my way that says, 'Hey, mind if we make the Onionverse?' before going ahead with it?
As to a serverlist merge? No, I've not been involved in one. However, despite there being no precedent for it, or rather because of that lack, I believe that open communication and being considerate to your fellow players is very important, and that it's not right to cut people out of that process.
-and basically saying we're all a bunch of liars and that Union shared RP is a load of balony kinda got on my whick a little. Likewise, I don't think it's too unreasonable to react thus.Quote:So instead it's decided to force 'the outsiders' to acknowledge what was decided. 'Godmoded into the floor'. Hm. That's a nice way to sum up how I feel right about now.
Text itself is a horrible, horrible medium for conveying feelings and tone. I repeatedly surprise peeps that I skype with in-game, because you'd think I'm this perpetual explodey-doom-ball of wrath and rage if you go purely off my text there (God damned cheating Romans...) and yet in reality I'm not.
We're not trying to be the big ebil scary clique/cartel or anything. And I don't think anyone wants to be. So, yeah...hopefully things will run smoothly. -
Quote:This, pretty much. The issue with The Crossing is we have the potential (And I know at least one person doing some planning involing) vast World/Universe/Multiverse altering plots, which folks on the Unionverse who don't check/frequent the forums/that thread wouldn't feel that nice about being forced to acknowledge the undead necormancer who set up an icey throne in the middle of Perez Park.
I'm pretty sure none of us like to be Godmodded do we? Which is why it's only fair not to godmode other people.
It's reasons like this widescale plots take a lot of time and effort on Union, informing everyone about it, getting it roling, not having it limited to the forums and all, but even then we're still limited as we can't change certian things about the world.
And given how Kings Row is a popular place to live and work for many people and a Giant Robot Crab has leveled a small chunk of it, how do you think people would feel if you just slipped into conversation:
"Oh yea, that part of the Row got Wrecked pretty good"
When the other person might not know about it. Having many people sharing the same background has it's upsides and it's downsides, and this is one of the latter.
And sometimes, it just comes down to a matter of time. Much to my chagrin, for example, Alpha wasn're present for the IC gladiators match, due to an attack of the Real Life. Much of my RP this term has been very limited, in comparison to last year (where, to be fair, I spent way too much time online and not enough working)
Alpha, on the other hand, would have been able to make it. He should have been there. I, however, couldn't be. Fortunately, it was a fairly minor-ish thing, and I could make it work IC ("I was in the Arctic testing weapons. And, hey, guess that gives weight to the fact you actually need me around, eh?" for example)
Having a world-wide plot that requires a charactr be uber-super active and suchnot simply isn't feasible 24/7, or even every day. -
Quote:Hmn, mighta been the Pretenders I think...or maybe Headmasters...and that sounds like Takara, the dubs for that were oh so very bad it hurt.I recall one of the transformer series where the transformation was from human -> transformer.
The dub for that series was so bad. So very very bad.
The Japanese was ok though. And Galvatron had a awesome voice. -
Quote:I realise that, but I didn't know people were treating it as 'This is Union' until it was brought up on channels in game.To be fair I can see his point, maybe he thought as I did that this would be a fine opportunity to lay some ground work for a character to use in Union server RP, only for it to turn out it's been vetoed behind the scenes?
Honestly it's a perfectly plausible plot that fits well within the setting, so why the ***** fit?
And the ***** fit is for the same reason I gave above. Rebel came in and voiced his concerns politely and reasonably. Others have raised points and asked questions. And then it all goes to hell in a handbasket with a ***** fit post (the one to which I responded) -
Quote:True for the Exalted, less so for the Transformers. You can't really call it a Tranformer if it doesn't TransformSome of the smaller transformers would fit in fine in Union (say a headmaster maybe) and Hobbits would work fine as well. Exhalted depends ont he type and level, though I can see a low level Exhalted being RP'd as a fully IO'd and Incarnated character. Heck Omy has his sort of Exhalted super group.
and that tech simply doesn't exist in game (sadly, otherwise I woulda made one >_> )

Strewth, Hyper, he said two, not two dozen

Quote:http://union.virtueverse.net/wiki/Main_PageY'know, it would've been very nice of said 'peeps' to maybe include everyone involved in this plot in that 'discussion', and not just foist this up solely from within their little clique. I always hear terms like 'concensus', 'community', and 'shared RP experience' touted on in regard to Union RP - and then I see this happening. I'm really getting a sense of 'you keep using that word; I don't think it means what you think it means' here.
So instead it's decided to force 'the outsiders' to acknowledge what was decided. 'Godmoded into the floor'. Hm. That's a nice way to sum up how I feel right about now.
I can see that. And y'know, I may be wrong about this, so please correct me if I am, but from what I see, those 'some people' look to be the majority of players who comprise the Unionverse group.
Again, please correct me if I'm wrong, but at this point I'm getting the picture that this 'shared RP universe' is all talk, no substance, and just like any other 'RP instance', as you like to call it - not to mention with the additional caveat that efforts are made to actively exclude the creations of anyone not a part of the core clique and to make the Unionverse as insular and shut-off as possible from the greater CoX RP community.
Honestly, I don't quite know what to think about that. I don't generally play on Virtue, so I don't know all their RP crowd does and doesn't, but I can tell you one thing: over there, they don't say one thing, and then do another.
Now somebody please show me that I'm wrong. Because I'd really like to be.

All examples that, yes, Union has a shared background verse that people stick to.
What do you want us to do? Because pretty much every time theres been interaction with you specifically, someones toes have ended up being trodden on. And yes, frankly, I'm getting sick and tired of you exploding like this every freaking time rather than voicing concerns like everyone else has. Rebels managed it just fine with polite dicussion and raising valid point. I for one have never had a serverlist merge and the chance of totally different types of RP merging into one. Have you? And no, thats an honest question.
Sorry, but when people try to help and organise and welcome and all that, and then it gets thrown back with a rant, what do you honestly expect? -
Quote:I don't think anyone would have a problem with that at all.Hmmmm I'm counting crossing as cannon, since I've used it to jump a character from a different game into regular (for me) use.
It's the Transformers, Exalted, Hobbits and all the like from other actual things porting over, however briefly, that'd cause problems. Because, lets face it, even in Paragon that kinda thing would make news.
Hence the reason I, personally, am just treating it like a fun alt-verse story. -
Welcome to some of our veteran grumpy old gummages. You need to get off their lawn

((Please don't kill me.)) -
Nova is a Dark/Dark scrapper. Also, should the eyepatch come off, the eye underneath is pure black. And, y'know, gives glimpses into ones darkest nightterrors
-
Note I didn't say 'Godmodded by the US players'. I meant 'in general'. Believe me, you only need to hang around Blueside PD on a bad day to see why I would say that.
(Note, bad day. Actually, no, best time is PD at Xmas, when the Chalet seems to bring all the tools to the yard...eesh)
Also, I do think it's a little premature to be jumping all over this like it's hot and stinking high. I mean, the server lists haven't even been merged yet. Does anyone really expect theres not gonna be a transitionary period where everyone gets used to things and the kinks get ironed out? This is kind of an unprecedented development here. -
-
It's a fair point. Thing is, a lot of us on Union RP channel facepalmed when we heard about the Crossing thread, simply because it left such huge scope to be godmodded into the floor. Now, as a nice surprise, that hasn't actually happened, making it an actual fun thing to jump onto.
However, it's still not everyones cup of tea. And making it a part of the Unionverse timeline would likely cause a few longterm problems and issues. While, yes, you can't keep everyone happy all the time, it's considerate to try and make it work for as many people as possible. Having it set in the 'Onionverse' (Unionverse characters and such, without impacting the Unionverse and timeline) seems to just work best, and certainly was met with nods on URP. -
While the rest of the discussion/arguement is all still valid...
Court law? Really? I'd love to see that one play out;
"They stole my name!"
"Hmn....how and where?"
"In a video game!"
"....Get out."
It's annoying and far from ideal, yes. But It's not something you could, or should, sue over for pity sakes.
All it takes is a red name to confirm that trial accounts will not count, and recently created accounts will not be able to pick names that clash. And then make seniority the choosing factor.
Honestly, is that really that much to ask? -
Quote:Pretty much.So if I'm understanding that right, and assuming the right things based on it, then anything involving characters who aren't on the Union server itself is considered non-canon at least to some extent?
While I use some of my Union characters in the SH102 thread, that, for them, is not canon. I won't include that sort of thing in their backstories or anything like that. I could arguably kill one of them off there, and it wouldn't effect Union in-game or on the forums.
This is why continuity threads tend to have a big 'UNION RP: Plot Name Etc' slapped on them, to make it easier to keep track of
-
Quote:After some discussion, peeps decided that we'd set that one in what we came to call 'Onionverse'. No, I'm not kidding.Well, that may be true for those sticking only to in-game RP, but for the forumites, I'd suggest you go check out this thread. It's set in the Unionverse.

It's like Union, in that it's possible that some of the characters from there may show up (None of which have yet, to my knowledge, except Ed Mechano, who can dimension hop anyway. So, technically, it might not even need to be that. It's jsut a paragon)
And the reason being was that there'd be too much wide-spread and noticeable stuff for it to not be common new, therefore forceing peeps who didn't join the the Forum RP to have to acknowledge it...which is a big no-no, really. RP can be exclusive or inclusive, but never forced. -
Quote:Okay, you come up with a good reason for the Well to share power with Hero and Villain PCs equally without making it amoral. That ^Quote:The Well is not amoral, it is flat-out evil.
Easy: don't make it a moral agent.
Also, why tie it so explicitally to the well in the first place?
Mentioning Incarnate powers and then saying 'Such as the Well of Furies, etc etc' would have been just fine. It would also have let people determine their own source of power, wether it was indeed the Well or a deity, or spirits, or uber high-tech, or shear consumption of enough anti-freeze that they became more super and 100% more blue.
But, no, we instead get straight-jacketed with 'The Well is GOD! OBEY THE WELL MYTHOS!', which I still don't buy frankly, and nor do most of my characters, IC or OOC.
*shrug*
