Yes, it's under some pretty intense strain. But a lot of that strain is undue. I mean, as listed above: I published "Full Moon Rising" at midnight on a weekday. Pretty low key time of day, right? The instant that I published it, it got buried under about 30-50 "KILL THE RIKTI" arcs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thats really amazing seeing as I have never seen more than 3-4 pages of those at any time. Then again if you search on rikti you will get every arc that has a rikti enemy
  2. [ QUOTE ]
The issue is not disk storage, or AI routines. It's the indexing system.

The devs are erring on the side of caution, since the search system broke down several times in beta under less load than we have now. Indexing all that data, plowing through it when users search, etc. eats up a lot of processor -- more and more if there are more arcs to search.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Only if done incredibly badly. Which given what comes back whenever I search on more than one keyword is likely the case.

Hey guys and gals. Could you help me by answering this question for a project I'm working on?
Maybe a lot of people already answered this question but, when you're looking for or creating a story arc would you rather go for farming missions that has no story and give good XP or do you go for an Arc that has a good entertaining story and average XP? Why?

    [/ QUOTE ]

This question is nearly both a categorical error and propaganda.

Lets take the errors that underlie the assumptions.

    1. Farming arcs have to be high rewarding grinds. Right now I am fighting maps of carnie EB's with custom support the challenge is intense. The people who made them came up with a high reward situation that has a considerable learning curve.

    2. That it is possible to tell a meaningful story through the compass and short one liners from npcs. This is what most people on a team get to see for a story.

For an 8 man team 7/8s of the people playing your story get a readers digest version with half the pages missing

Now to go to what may be your real question which is how to get your arc well rated. Making a farm type arc will have certain people immediately one starring it. They can't even conceive that there could be merit to such a thing. The funny thing is a long arc that is complex full of subtext will be boring as heck for most of a team.

Your best bet would be a short to medium arc with fun battles and a little interesting narrative for the TL. Start off getting your friends and sg mates to play it. They will give you good ratings and good feedback if you ask for it.

I'm stilll waiting for your point.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've made my point. Several times. You are now willfully ignoring it... probably because you can't come up with anything actually relevant to say that shows my point to be incorrect or invalid.

You're obviously not actually interested in finding a common solution that solves the problem. You're just here to call people names, like pretty much every pro-farmer.

    Very mature.

I'm done with you. You're not worth my time, or the time of any other intelligent person.

    1. Cassandra Corte holds that the way other people play the same game is causing her to be frustrated with the game, thus ruining her ability to have fun in that game. She is also frustrated with the attitude that players who do something she does not personally like take (namely that they shouldn't have to change their behavior at all, regardless of the fact that said behavior is a cause of frustration for certain other players), because she believes that, as adults, other people should be forced to change their behavior because she seems to be unable to control or deal with her own frustration.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Fixed that for you, Cassandra. Seems to fit better...

please elaborate how Farming(not exploiting ritki or bugged missions) prevents you from enjoying the game?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I already have. At length. Look it up.

As for not being here to please me, has it occurred to you geniuses that the same applies to the other side of the aisle?

Of course it hasn't. You're too self-involved to show that sort of awareness.

    [ QUOTE ]
I submit that the inconsiderate people that annoy you are going to be inconsiderate no matter what, and that MA is not the problem.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And thus, because you can't solve the problem completely, trying to do something that alleviates at least some of the problem is not worth doing.

That, sir, is a base and idiotic argument.

    [ QUOTE ]
Hahahaha. Only on the internet, I swear. Anywhere else, someone would be too ashamed to call people out for doing the same stuff they'd been doing for half a week.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Your ad hominem attack would be more clever if it had even the scintilla of truth to it. Unfortunately, it doesn't. But nice try. Please go back to the kiddie table and let the grownups talk.

    3) Have a strong sense of what you consider just, and hate to see anyone in anyway gaming a system to the point that your efforts pale in comparison.

    [/ QUOTE ]

While that may be diplomatic its very much less than usefull. . Whatever you are doing there will always be people doing better than you. If you have a problem with this its yours not theirs
  6. [ QUOTE ]
Straw Man: The Straw Man fallacy is committed when a person simply ignores a person's actual position and substitutes a distorted, exaggerated or misrepresented version of that position.

    In this specific case:

    1. Cassandra Corte holds that farming is causing her to be frustrated with the game, thus ruining her ability to have fun in that game. She is also frustrated with the attitude farmers take (namely that they shouldn't have to change their behavior at all, regardless of the fact that said behavior is a cause of frustration for certain other players), because she believes that, as adults, there should be some sort of middle ground where everyone can at least be mostly happy.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Really and just where is this unarticulated middle ground that you have presented as a position ?

I must have missed it amongst the over the top ranting posts you have made.

And here I am with my little story arc that chances are no one will play because all anyone does is farm. Once upon a time I was so jazzed about I14. Now I have no inspiration to write any more arcs because I don't see the point when like, 10 people total will play them. Maybe.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Amen, brother. I feel the same way. Why work so hard to develop a classic comic feel and story when all anyone wants to do is make leveling easier on themselves? Isn't leveling easy enough? I'm beginning to think the game is being dumbed down to a level that will erode what makes it great. I mean, am I the only one who actually reads all the mission text?

    [/ QUOTE ]

LOL, If you have built something great that is its own heaven. That you ask the question indicates you probably haven't.
  8. I'd like to comment more on this topic but all the diverse threads are really starting to cut into my farming time.

If it is a bug, then you shouldn't profit from it. Thus my suggestion to remove the ill-gotten 50s.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You sure your'e not a farmer just trying to discredit the RPers ?

But Yes Absolutely Remove the 50s.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
This is bad, too, as I had a lengthy conversation with a person playing a WS, who not only didn't know how to use/create keybinds, but he had only just joined the game a week or so ago.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have been playing the game for quite awhile and keybinds are still something of a problematic mystery to me. Seeing as I managed to take my mastermind to 50 and use it effectively in both PVE and PVP i'd say they are pretty much optional.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
Lemme know how that solo STF, RSF, LGTF, ITF, Eden Trial, and the solo Shadow Shard TFs go, k?

    [/ QUOTE ]

You'd have ask Kranik about the ITF he did that on a blaster about a month ago.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
Now, maybe if the Devs awarded Bug Hunter and deleted all the new 50s... that might be fair.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And there it is. Not fairness. No just a simple whiney desire to get even and take it out on people that are disliked.

It would almost be worth it to see you get your wish.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
This has just given me a fab idea for a new form of pvp (and one I might actually be good at). Those who hate farmers/Plers can go to the MA and type meow into the serch engine, pop into the mish to check it is a farm and not some strange tail of a missing kitten or some such, and press the report for content button.

Those who choose to farm/PL can quickly churn out new farms.

    Race you to AE.

  16. My Concern ?

COH now has a MA tragedy opportunism minigame.

    Rules as follows
    1. Generate big list of problems they dont have to be real.
    2. Find plausible scapegoats.
    3. Whine about problems and blame scapegoats on boards.
    4. Repeat Ad nauseum.

Well the MA has raised concerns for me. The concern that anyone in the western world could still fall for the above. The concern that there are people that think so little of their fellow man that they try it.

Seems more like he is calling your statements complete and utter garbage. Given that all your arguments seem to devolve to

"you should be able to get teams to do the content you want and if it means the removal of the content every one else enjoys so be it"

    They are garbage.

  22. [ QUOTE ]
Personally, I think how appalled the older bunch of supers are at the conduct of the younger ones in KINGDOM COME is a better analogy. Seeing that this game was, at some point, supposed to be about superheroes (and villains), not about who has the bigger stable of "50 toons."

(And if you don't even know what KINGDOM COME is - though I think THE NEW FRONTIER is better - why are you playing this game?)

    [/ QUOTE ]

I take it these are comics ?

If you are taking your moral lessons from what you see in comics all you have done is prove that jackass Dr. Wertham and the congressional investigations he provoked absolutely correct
  23. [ QUOTE ]
I swear, three specific fixes would I think put *everyone* in a better mood:

    1) Have a "farm" checkbox, if checked (or if the devs think an unchecked mission is really a farm), it gets listed on its OWN tab in AE (or equally workable, you could have a check box in the AE filter to filter out farms or to show ONLY farms.)

    2) Make an official FARM broadcast channel. Make farming people use it.

    3) Make AE/MA be it's own seprate zone, like the disco place, that you can access from each AE site - that way all broadcast stays within AE, and there's just one AE, not seven.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Add in an additional difficulty slider that lets you set the spawned for size, in both the regular and AE missions. Farmers don't like having to ask people to pad and people don't like being bothered

The comedy of Hide with a shield as the tool is something that can't be overestimated.

No one seems to pay any mind when Solid Snake's cardboard box appears out of nowhere. I'm sure they'd pay no attention to the shield leaning against the wall.

  25. [ QUOTE ]
Previously these things were rare and hillarious, now they are common and sad... This is what farming brings to the game, any real player's frickin' nightmare. People who step out of the AE and grab a mission full of KoA and have no idea what to do to not die repeatedly.

It's not acting as a tool for experienced players to bypass content they've already played like the farming of the standard missions was. This is a travesty, not just an exploit

    [/ QUOTE ]

It took me 5 months to level up my first 50 a blaster. About the same for my second a controller. I managed a master mind in less than a month.

Obviously masterminds are broken and nothing but an exploit
