But we get plenty of respecs, vetspecs, and dual builds. So....there's really no excuse to whine about this one.
I think it's awesome, especially for folks who have characters who would use those travel powers straight away instead of having to go through something they don't want in concept. -
I'm pretty sure they mean unlock the tier two powers? As in, the transport power?
-
Indeed. That's also why the have put advertisements on every video they've identified as belonging to a specific studio or owner: because the owner can then track how many ads are seen on their video and get their "due" for it. If they don't have the right ownership and copyright on the video, *the proper owner of the video - be it the music, the video, cartoon, script, or whatever* will not get their copyRIGHTs.
I'm not saying that I agree that this is all the best way to do this, but it IS the way we've got. Don't like it? Go to law school and start championing for change. -
"Fair use" is for schools and libraries, and for small (less than 10 second) snippets of songs for *review purposes only*. You need to read up on that if you are going to try using it as a defense for posting things that don't belong to you.
I realize that "user created videos" use music that isn't theirs. But they by and large have not asked for permission to do so. Fair use as you see it is "if I grab it and use it it's mine", which is not true and not legal. Having gone through a lawsuit about this subject, trust me: your impression doesn't hold legal water, I'm afraid. It's not a "right" to copy someone else's work. You do not have the "right" to use music that you didn't create, unless you get that right in writing from its creator. You may use a tiny portion of a book, scene from a movie, clip of music or soundbyte as I said: in the form of a review or for educational purposes.
Just because you want the internet to be "free for everyone to use" ... it isn't. Sorry. No one is "denying" anyone's rights by taking copyrighted material away from people who aren't supposed to be posting it. -
As with any company which has publically viewable stuff, any pornographic images - and the interpretation is always "whatever the person viewing it thinks" is porn; obviously stolen items (such as "look at all these great Boris Vallejo images!" - yoink! gone!); any image which promotes hate or violence, any image which depicts criminal activity ("lookit my bros and me getting wasted and spraypainting on this store wall!" - yoink!), basically something that doesn't belong to you that you put up.
The hosting companies MUST adopt a "better safe than sorry" attitude and remove the offending material regardless - but if it's NOT offensive, or it DOES belong to you and you can prove it, they will have to put it back up. That usually requires a legal notice of copyright holding, or permission, or proof that you own the item... etc.
Just because you rent an office space, doesn't mean you can run a porn shop out of it. Just because you rent a storage room, doesn't mean you can grow weed in it. Same thing: if it's "technically illegal" online, or if it's likely to offend someone who IS going to be browsing your area, it should be taken down.
Now, that said, Gamma's situation is annoying as hell because of course the people of DA are idiots. Ee-dee-ots. Their copyright and offense admin are retarded. I'd consider trying to apply for a job with them just to lighten their load and give the benefit of the doubt to the RIGHT people, but then again the admin there *are the only people who've regularly insulted me* on DA. So go figure, the help they need most from someone who HAS studied up on copyright and laws like those, won't be allowed in because of their incredible cliquish attitudes... -
Well, consider if the music file you're using in the video has electronic tags for copyright info? I don't know - but it seems likely to me that in the interests of actually protecting those copyrights, they actually get down on folks for uploading things they don't hold the right to use...
It's a case of on one hand, yeah, it's your music if you bought it. On the other, you do *not* have the right to broadcast it. So.... I dunno. It doesn't surprise me that youtube or anyone else would be taking what appears to be "appropriate" measures.
All folks have to do is *ask* for permission - I bet no one has ever even bothered... o.o Like, in the history of posting videos. -
If a store stops carrying something and you're asking for it, they are not doing their job. Ask to talk to the manager about ordering things that people actually will buy. There's no compelling reason for them not to at least special order them for you - they CAN and SHOULD do that much. Especially if it's a store where you have shopped before or regularly.
-
It just really depends on whether there's a jerk with a vendetta or just a bad attitude.
And no, photobucket also has a fairly strict eula, however I've never particularly heard of anyone getting their paid account wiped there. If you aren't hosting your OWN materials on your OWN hardware, any nub with an attitude can come along and claim they're offended. By law, the server HAS to comply by looking it over, and just like in the game here, if the person looking it over is ALSO offended, out it goes, no if's ands or butts... -
I think that's an excellent and obviously 'patriotic' type character! I believe it'd work perfectly for pretty much any tank, blaster, or non-aura scrapper.
-
Yeah exactly. Unless you have your actual own server unit? At any time, if anyone complains about something and it turns out to offend the hosts, they can and will remove things without warning, and that's in pretty much every online hosts' eula.
I got smacked by DA last year, when I posted non-offensive stuff but some dickwad happened to think it was "infringement" that I was using Garry's mod to make half-life comics... never mind that there are 500 more people every day doing the same thing with not just hl, but portal, tf2, l4d, etc everything that uses the Source engine. But one jerk decided MINE was ... well, "stealing" ... so I put them back up, and da banned me for a week.
I'm still trying to get an official word from Valve on the matter so I can rub DA's copyright "investigator's" (who apparently doesn't know how to read, let alone search even on their own site) nose in it. -

I'm sorry...when do we push through walls and stop bullets...and yes we do get paid for stopping super-villians, that's what the game is all about"making money" need to redo these ads and say something about farming or powerlvling...or the the fact that the game is really called "CITY OF WANNABES" (no heroes here)

Have you ever even tried to play the game? .... I'm guessing that's a no.
Move on to the next superhero gam.... oh wait, you can't. I lol'd. -
I'd like to participate!

Very nice work in general.
I think you may want to take more from real-life pictures, you're on DA, so take a look through the stock art accounts so that you might find some models to use.
Hand and arm size compared to head and face size, is the one thing that I see can still use a bit of improvement. The hands and forearms can stand to be a little bigger in general, and the faces a little smaller (though that's individual, not every one is 'too big for the head').
Very nice inking though, nice bold lines. I think some of the 'shiny' lines would be easier to understand when it's in color, but it still gets the point across nicely. -
Dude if any girl you bring into your room *doesn't* like anything you've got on display, that's not the girl for you.
I saw way too many long-time comic book fans and geeks have to bring their comic collections and toys around to sell them because their girlfriend/fiancee/wife "didn't want me to have them any more".
Why marry her?! -
All accounts open get 12 open slots on every server, period. There's no "extra" involved. Never has been.
All paid time - including the time on every pack - counts toward vet time. -

Quick question....
has Justsomerandomguy said anything about these? they very close to his "Hi, I'm a Marvel?"
[/ QUOTE ]
Er, they're very close to "Hi I'm a Mac". He took that idea and went with it for Marvel and DC. He doesn't own any part of marvel, dc, or the mac.... so... technically since NC worked this deal out, they've got a way better grasp on the legal aspects of parody here. NC doesn't need to ask their permission to do something like this. -

I am still saddened by the fact that we haven't seen a CG trailer since, the now defunct, City of Hero.
[/ QUOTE ]
Meh, myself, I really like using the actual ingame figures and such. Having the small updates of the mouths being animated isn't like getting your hopes up for a whole huge CG fest - and being disappointed. With these at least, it IS just about exactly this, in the game.
Now if only we had a solid white, well-lit but not over-exposed area for doing screenshots... o.o -
Sadly I just don't get that she's got any love for either the game OR the community. I was actually offended by her lusca "report", it was so miserably off base. It really did feel like she was actively attempting to sway people the wrong way, to have a worse experience. That's just what I've felt though. *shrug*
-
It counts toward vet time. Period. You've paid for it. It's not "free".
Lol her account of a Lusca raid was pitiful too. Sigh. -
I just really like the "tech" interpretation of "dark" powers It was instantly recognizable.
