Quote:I think the idea is to convince the devs 1) How bad an idea it is to gate certain pieces (auras, emotes etc) and 2) that the prices shouldn't be anyhwere near the current ones in the slightest.I've had to clarify that to folks on the Beta server and on the forums a few times already. They don't seem to believe me on how dramatically things can change in beta.

It's still feedback

Quote:This is pretty much where I am, except that I heavily disagree with the level of gated-nessI'm kind of in-between on it, honestly.
I like getting cool stuff, but not to the point that I will do something I don't enjoy in order to get it.
As far as the costume unlocks with Astral/Empyrean Merits goes? I will probably get my characters as kitted out as I want them to be, and maybe then I will consider unlocking some pieces with leftover merits.
Example, the VG kit before the pack. One character I wanted to make and have indeed made is a Vanguard Colonel with full armour. Getting him to 35 AND unlocking every single bit of armour? Well, I could live with that, because I had cool people to team with, friends to mess around with and do varied stuff on the way to 35 and subsequent merit earning.
I do not find the ITrials fun. I especially do not find them fun when I have to rind them and ONLY them to get what I would like to get.
Alpha slot? I could live with that. I could do ANY content and get rewarded. I could mission, I could solo, I could do TFs. I could do the WST.
Now? No. No choice at all. And that is what I disaprove of the most. -

Mebbe in a week or so, once Uni has taken it's bleedin' dark wings off my shoulders, heh
But yes, yes I will -

Quote:Yes, my bad. Doing maths and applying it in the early morning is a BAD ideaThe full set of Ascension Radiant is 150 Empyrean Merits. That's 50 days of 3 trials, not 134. 134 days would give you enough for both Ascensions and probably about everything else you can buy with Empyreans.

Also, Z-man, 'having drama attacks' is fairly valid as feedback, showing exactly how much dislike for the costs people have (And not just. On the forums I've seen more against than in favour. In game the response on one channel was general outcry.) -
Quote:You are right, that is for everything. Uhm...*grabs calculator*I'll say it again: long-term content. Plus, once you've put in those 134 days (or 250, or 365, or whatever), you never have to do it again. Not for any of your other characters, ever, period.
Plus, speaking of strawmen, it's not like you have to put in 134 days to see any progress. That's 134 days to completely earn everything, starting immediately after it's added to the game.
For perspective, how long did it take someone immediately after Issue 11 launched to completely "purple out" their character? Keep in mind, a lot of those recipes and/or enhancements didn't show up on the market for a while. And once you were done, how long did it take you to "purple out" your second character?
I'm thinking 134 days, even of constant farming, would have been generous at the time. And, of course, then if you wanted more purples on other characters, that would have been even more time sunk into the system, where as here, it's immediately unlocked.
Plus, I'm not a mechanics guru, but does that 134 days calculation take into account the fact that you can earn both Empyrian and Astral merits during trials, plus any conversions of Shards/Thread/whatevers you earn along the way too? Or is it based on one trial = one and only one reward?
50 days for the full on, glowy armour set, then.
Even then, however, there is a HUGE difference between 'Purpling out' a character, which has a marked difference on performance, character strength and all that...and purely cosmetic costume pieces that have 0 effect on the game mechanics.
The two are simply not comparable in the same way. -

Tony, thats a huge strawman there.
I, for one, do not object to the powers being gated behind the Trials. I may hate the 'need' for an arbitrary participation system, I may really get annoyed with how much MMs can potentially suffer on them, and I despise the RNG for giving my MM nothing above uncommon and then my Crab getting a Rare on her very first run.
But at least it's fairly reasonable.
Heck, I can even live with the 8 Emp merit cost for Rares (V.Rares is another matter entirely...)
But 401 E Merits? For a COSTUME set? I've posted the numbers before, but I'll do it again;
134 days of doing all 3 trials. How, in ANY way shape or form, is that reasonable? -
They are next year, yes. I think I will, thankfully, miss that.
It is utter, utter tripe, however. Bloody Government... -
-
Except that logic already fails.
You can unlock the Alpha slot one of two ways; ITrials or Ramiels arc.
You can solo Ramiels arc. You cannot solo ITrials.
Ramiels arc is much, MUCH faster than the trials. -
To be exact, you'd have to do all three ITrials every day for 134 days solid to get the full Empyrean armour set.
Have fun!! You -do- -love- the Raids -don't- you, citizen? -
Quote:Ditto for Digital Animation, sadly. I honestly think I would have been better off spending the money on a rig that laughed at Crysis and a load of 'Teach Yourself' books, because I sure as heck haven't been taught much...Thanks British education system...*pat pat* grinding for Game Art & Design Degree Accolade wasn't as fun as I thought it'd be.
Alpha would murderate you horribly for comparing him to a Microsoft machineQuote:You appear to like your Xbox so much you made your signature character in its likeness
-
Quote:And now your just putting words in my mouth (or at the ends of my fingers, to be exact)And of course the two are mutually exclusive, right?
There is ZERO possibility that some people both A) Want an end game, and B) Care about costumes and such?
I call shenanigans on that one. There are PLENTY of people who both enjoy costumes and wanted an end game.
I see no rule anywhere that says if you want an end game you aren't allowed to care about costumes, or vice versa. -
Gods damnit, stop making me miss my Xbox and home internet when I have to grind university work for my Degree accolade
-
Atlas Park and Galaxy have unique environs and backstory to each of them that would be BETTER as separate zones than as one conglomerate mess. That's genuinely 'taking things out of the game'.
Leave them separate. -
Heh, my only nearly finished slotted char is my Bots/Traps MM namesake. And he still finds ITrials horrific, due to the assurance that MMs will suffer most from spammed, high damage and high accuracy AoE. He also seems to have appalling luck with drop rates.
I guess you have more patience with dealing with crap in something you do to escape the crap of life
Myself, less so.
Edit: Also, Z sums it up perfectly as usual. -
Quote:A lot of people I know run into one of more of these;I personally see nothing wrong w/ the trials, but I understand the current lag issues can be a turn off.
-Not IO slotted like a boss to counter Praetorian higher numbers
-Not got any Level shifts
-Get intense lag issues/graphical problems even running the ITrials
-Do not have time to consta-grind for things
-Would rather not consta-grind for stuff
-Get sick and tired of doing the same two (three soon) things over and over and over and over again. -
Quote:Undoubtably. However, Positron's claim is that these are aimed as an 'incentive' for more people to play the Trials.Eh, I'm sure there's a large group of us who care about both.
Put it this way, I voiced the prices on URP channel last night. The responces were...let's say 'unamused'. A lot of people do not like the ITrials, a large number of them do like the new costume parts.
Those two do not sit hand in hand. -
I hope you like grinding three trials a day for 134 days, Bass.
Because that is the current cost for the full set of that armour.
It does look perfect on Valk, though. Nicely done. -
Maestro, I think the point is more that people would rather pay cash monies than have to do 3 trials a day for 134 days to unlock one full set of costume parts.
This is unrelated to the separate topic of free costume parts vs transaction costume parts -
