Player run. You could use a system like Fudge to roughly stat characters abilities and go that way, or if you trust the GM/GM trusts you enough, freeform them as well.

[ QUOTE ]
How would we do combat then?
[/ QUOTE ] Same as at GG, I'd say. Don't godmod, use your judgement in taking and avoiding attacks, respect your fellow players and try to all have fun. -
Marvel's 616 Universe is the one that's been about since Marvel started, and is the one everyone's widely aqquainted with. Because it's old, and had many different writers and stories, lots of conflicting things occured in backgrounds. Ultimate Marvel universe was made so that these backstories could be streamlined, characters could be modernised if needed and it meant that comic buyers didn't need to go through a whole load of back issues to get up to speed.
[ QUOTE ]
I don't think we'll need an elaborete combat system, we didn't need one at GG...
[/ QUOTE ] Seconded.
[ QUOTE ]
I think we'd need a variant of GGOOC, which would also serve as a list of those online at that time? (Mandatory to join, chat on if wanted?)
[/ QUOTE ] A lobby channel, with the topic showing what channels are publicly open perhaps? -
[ QUOTE ]
Jessica and Kiyarii got married in August (15th?), so fall in the 'dated a short time' catagory...
[/ QUOTE ] Ah yeah,oops!
[ QUOTE ]
And correct me if I'm wrong, but... aren't Alex and Samantha both played by you?
[/ QUOTE ] Samantha is one of Stef's characters. -
Longest IC between two players (without any retcons) would be Juan and Mina, from June-ish time, though Jessica and Kiyarii are close, followed by Jess and Ellie.
Longest IC between two players with recton is Stargazer and War Crow.
Alex Reed and Samantha Wells have the longest relationship, but don't get played much. They were together since May. -
Another related, and mildly interesting thought came up earlier as I was cleaning toilets.
'Ultimate Galaxy Girl', my mind dubbed it. No, not the statue's super mech form, but just what it says on the tin. If you happen to also know about Marvel's Ultimate and 616 universes, that is. All food for thought. As for those details, I'm sure some kind of schedule can be arranged. -
Aye, part of the fact being I'm paying £24 every 3 months to log in to talk and RP with people, when I can do it for free elsewhere minus the fancy graphical interface and lacking chat interface. If issue 8 were to surprise me with chat and social RP features (Look, look there, you see a tiny, glimer of hope just shine) then I may be back, dragging some others with me.

You're thinking of @-shaped sticks, right?
[/ QUOTE ] For IRC at least. With sticks in the k and b variety. -
[ QUOTE ]
Believe me, if we were worried about player level, we'd never have started GG. It might even be easier to handleunder freeform, because we can agree to codify the way these powers work. (Or probably not, actually, but that's human nature for you.)
[/ QUOTE ]
And that's what big sticks are for, big sticks which aren't availble in CoH. -
[ QUOTE ]
I'd also have to point out that a "CoH MUSH" has some potential to get you sued by Cryptic and NCSoft. RP over IRC is almost certainly okay since it's transitory, but a MUSH is a rather more permanent thing and probably massively contravenes copyright regulations.
[/ QUOTE ] Aye, that's true. :<
Might need to apply the KISS principle to the idea then. -
[ QUOTE ]
Uh, Z, basically what you have described is, if I understand it correctly, a request for development of a CoH MUSH?
[/ QUOTE ] Having never used a MUSH before, that completely slipped my mind. Gar, you're right! -
[ QUOTE ]
Ok...less caffeine for you.
[/ QUOTE ] Less? I only had one cup of hot chocolate.
[ QUOTE ]
Con's - Netsplit, Netsplit, Netsplit :P
[/ QUOTE ] Then Sorcery.net, which from what I remember only had 3 netsplits when I was on in 2 years of useage.
[ QUOTE ]
no graphics,
[/ QUOTE ] I count that as a pro. It means no worries, for the-, I mean, it means that certain looks that were not possible in a graphical based client (Like Rheu for example, unless the Dev's happen to add Cat to Male, Female and Huge body types.).
[ QUOTE ]
no mechanism for bringing in new players
[/ QUOTE ]*Motions to the snares, harpoons and weighted nets* Or word of mouth and livejournal. Whichever works.
[ QUOTE ]
I think it could work as a supplement to GG/CoH based RP
[/ QUOTE ] Aye, that it could.
[ QUOTE ]
no missions
[/ QUOTE ] Hiki, meet Fudge (the diceless kind, not the delicious snack or RP term). It was done before on IRC for that guy who was evil, one of his zombies ate Jane's foot.
Still, this is just me in the 'spewing out granie blocks of idea' stage, with the chisselling to get fine detail (or making an utter mess of things and throwing the block on the slag heap) to come. -
One of the myriad EU based IRC servers? I already use Undernet for three things, using the mIRC client to do so.
-
Not even sure that damn title makes sense, what with space limitations et al.
So, I now have... 15 days of subscription time left, and I'm in the process of winding down my RPing. Now, a small group of my characters are now living on a (fictional) South Pacific Island. (If it's okay for Marvel, what with Latvaria and Genosha, then it's okay for me.) and several people will be visiting IC, which will take place over IRC for groups, and MSN for individuals.
"But wait!" Says I, well, thinks I. If we route the energy from the non-essential systems to the phaser array... we get nothing to do with RPing at all.
So, that plan got chucked out of the window. A team of college-grad kittens got to work on a new, and better plan, and many kitty nights and chinese takeaways later, they showed me the new plan.
Free-form RP over IRC, with channels set up for various locations, whispers used for two people doing a scene, a script bind for getting descriptions (from players and from the locations themselves). Built in logging if you use a good client, more variation on speech output using bold, underline, text foreground and background colours for multiple character playing (AKA: Pulling a Z), the /me command for actions (as we would use for ; /e and /em) and as I mentioned earlier, built in remote, binding and scripting support.
I looked at the grad-student kittens. I saw no phasers or schemes to get delicious kibbly snacks in the plan, but who trusts kittens with things like RP? So tis be why I'm here typing this to you, to find out others oppinions. Aye, it has cons. but it also has pro's as well. Accessible for players who have quit for monetary or other reasons, with many IRC clients being freeware, a greater control of the channels, spangly options for RP'ing away from places yet still having the area open for people to come into. (Example, say Characters A and B headed into the burger shop. They create a channel for this. Anyone else who wants to go into the burger shop can check the info to find out that characters A and B are in channel #burgershop and join it.)
I'll umm, stop rambling now and get back to the mind numbing Human Physiology revision that drove me to distraction to type this out.
Arm bone's connected to the, elbow~ -
Hmm, now that you mention it... only Juan is in any kind of organized SG. Alex and Zortel are in the Vigil, which doesn't really exist anymore, and the rest of mine are in small SG's just for bases.

How'd you manage to fit that into shopping and going for up up and away burgers??
[/ QUOTE ] Anastasia Kade went to dinner at the Rolando household, and came back with Jessica as her adoptive daughter. -
Odd, seeing as I've done it before in IE. :P But yes, people do read Creative, I check up every week or so.

I can happily (if somewhat scarily) state that I've literally read every single post made in it. I got bored one day.
[/ QUOTE ] I did that once for the GG thread, back when it was around 7200 posts.
It needs to be a very boring day to take me to do that again. -
[ QUOTE ]
So lonely and quiet, sometimes people don't even notice he's there.
[/ QUOTE ] That's cause he's often in disguise.
Like carrots, hamster, cheese, Kuala Lumpah... -
Hannah'll let Glory come and visit Rolando Island in the South Pacific. And get some proper, wholesome home-cooked food into her.

I could be wrong,
[/ QUOTE ] And you are. The Prize started the meet, Ravenswing was just the one to start the write up post.
Back in the days when write-ups consisted of "Rocks fall, everyone dies" and "popping Bricks to the Zig".
And tainting young goddesses digestional tracts with Major Flanders fried chicken. -
I'd suggest maybe trying some of the social side RP.
All sorts of fun things can happen when characters go out for burgers or shopping, from teenage drama, Tsoo attacks, transmuting burger wrappers into teeth, adoption and more. -
A little part of me has just died hearing that...

[b}IC, 19/06/06, 8am. ZorTel Industries SubSurface Computer Terminal Room 3A.[/b]
"Hey Hannah, how's things on the island? Yeah, I'll be over in a little while, it's my turn to do the shopping at the house... oh yeah, why I phoned. I think we won the battle against the video upload, I'll ease off some of the attacks but keep the virus spread to mop up anything we missed. 9 varients and counting, Norton are stuggling with just one thanks to that little trick you taught me... yeah, you take care too, I'm off to do that shopping and head home for some sleep. Yeah, love ya too and all that. See ya!"
Anna closed the VOIP connection and leaned back in her chair. It seemed a little odd that the Malta group had given up, but she could keep her eye on any odd movements. Rumaging through her pockets, she pulled out a crumpled list and headed out of the room, waving to the stoic-faced woman standing guard.
"I'm clocking out, see you later." she waved. The woman gave a barely perceptible nod. -

[i]"Well Hannah, for all the smart moves you've made, this one discredits them all." The blue haired teen mused to herself, drumming her fingers on her keyboard.
"I've got YouTube's moderators alerted to the video there, DDoS happening on those shock sites video and data servers... right, time to brew up something sweet."
Hannah hopped over to one of the PC's in her somewhat geekish office. Biohazard and warning stickers dotted the place, along with various sci-fi paraphernalia and items of geek culture. "If I can get this right and on the ad-servers, I can start distribution of the payload to corrupt the video..." she mused to herself, fingers skimming across the keyboard as lines of code got entered.
"Sorry about this, Internet." she smiled to herself. "I know you can take one more for the team, but this is a pretty big bullet. Let's call it even, you get through this, and I personally will get IPv6 more widespread. And some nice shiney new wiring for you. Deal?"
"There's a good girl." Hannah grinned as the virus started its upload. "Now, if we just bounce it off of this server here... here... here and here to the power of ten to the three... wait, what's that?" she blinked. Wheeling her chair across to another computer, she quickly booted it up.
"C'mon, c'mon, yeah, POST, get that over with... right..." she muttered to herself, before patting the desktop box. "Congratulations, you get to be a guinea pig to see what this little ******* floating about is up to. Don't worry, I saved your ghost." she said, steering the net browser onto an afflicted site.
"Jeez... this is going to take a while." she sighed, her shoulders sagging slightly. "Better call Anna in as well."
