So I decided to go with Plant control, having never taken it all the way up to 50, over Mind Control (which I find to be boring). Seeing as how the majority of my toons are ranged, I opted to go for a melee set, and choose /Earth as it looked to have some great melee attacks.
Went to level 15 yesterday and had a blast with it. Kinda fun to sit there and punch people in the face while they are stuck in plants.
Thanks for everyones help and insight, I appreciate it! -
No, I don't want a bunch of Mids builds posted. What I need is ideas. I have tried Dominators a bunch in the past, and could never really get into the playstyle. As a controller who liked to buff, it was hard for me to make the adjustment to damage dealing instead of buffing. Now after a 5 year hiatus, I am back with none of my prior prejudices. But I'm a little overwhelmed by the choices on Dominators. So I'd like some help please.
I am not too particular on the primary or secondary, its defining the playstyle. I've read a few of the topics in this forum and it seems you need to decide if your going to kill at range, or in melee. I'm not really seeing a hybrid, although most builds appear to have those token one or two powers they are forced to take. I'm open to either playstyle, and would actually prefer Melee (I did mostly ranged in my previous experiences and trying new things) however I'm not opposed to a fun ranged build. Because Fun is my main requirement. I need this to be fun. I assume all toons eventually become powerful, so I'm not worried about power level and performance. Nor am I worried about off the wall combo being rejected, I have good people to team with.
So basically:
What would be a fun Dominator to roll for a returning player after a 5 year absence that won't require a massive learning curve?
Thanks in advance! -
Quote:that would be @Darque and @Wyldchyld Infinity OriginalsTo confuse the matter further, there is a second Darque on Infinity, but I think his/her global is Darque, and then there's a Darque who has a different global? Or something?
I don't know, I can't keep track of all these new kids.
Also, you forgot about Wasp? I'm telling. -

Welcome back EoP, I play mainly on Victory and Freedom now, although I do come to Infinity for other stuff. I still have your global, hit me up! -
Quote:ThisThe most frustrating thing to me is that they have no access to global channels and tells. It would make it much easier to team with them as a VIP if they at least had this ability.
exactly, at least tells. I can understand the global restriction (keep bots out!) but the tells would be fine and helpful. I've tried to help people asking questions in /help, but its so clogged they missed my answers and I can't send em a pm -
its been like this as far as I can tell.
If you have an old friend coming back to play, you can't really do any of the fun stuff in the game with them other than the core missions and TFs. They will have to respec into a build just for SO's, as they can't use the invention system. You won't be able to run any of the trials with them. Basically, the F2P is just a reason to make you download the game and start playing, and then realize if you really want to enjoy the game you used to know, your gonna have to pay some money.
Now, for new people, I've seen some good things. I've run into a lot of people from other MMO's (across all the servers I play on now. Sadly, Infinity isn't the only one) who came to check it out. They are enjoying it, basically because they don't know what they are missing out on. Hopefully this will bring an influx of new blood who really enjoy the game and are willing to spend some cash on upgrading to really get into the content. -

Quick answer is take both Howl and Sirens song. Open with Howl, then sleep the mob with Sirens song, then go about your business taking them down 1 at a time. Of course since you are Rad, you can pull them with RI first so you have increased survivability. I have never taken Shockwave on any of my /Sonics (3).

Quote:Now that is the kind of answer I was looking for, well thought out and concise, with relevant points. That was all I was looking for, from anybody. So the conclusion is that its not the action of "stealing" the name that everyone had a problem with. Its the intent that everyone perceived it to be a malicious act against another person that people had a problem with.Actually, the real question is why did the person use a name widely associated with another person? If someone took a name because it has broad appeal and they wanted to use it, fine. If someone took a name specifically to annoy another player, that makes them a tool. Whether we like either person is irrelevant. It's their intent that makes them a tool, or not.
There are other Ironblades on other servers. No surprise. It's kind of an obvious name, even before they introduced a power called the Iron Blade. Taxibot Belle, however, is more of a 'personal' name than a 'hero' name.
At this point, there are several players known to have used the names of multiple other players. And, again, I'm not talking about names like Ironblade. I'm talking about names like 'Frank the Magician'. That makes them tools.
Conclusion:
The intent of the action, while generally unknown to the populace at large what it was, and not the action of taking the name itself is what upset everyone. If the name were simply "Taxibot" with nothing else behind it, no one would have had a problem. The fact that a "personal" name was taken, and that everyone assumed it was for malicious use, is what people had a problem with.
Last question and then I can maybe finish this research paper on perceived intent vs real intent:
Why did everyone instantly assume that the person who took the name took it to be malicious? -
mainly because I didn't have access to the forums during this and would have asked these questions then and there. And since I saw people every day congratulating Belle I felt compelled to ask the questions I didn't get to ask to begin with. I thought that every thing I said was quite courteous (excepting maybe admitting that it made me laugh). I also didn't realize I was beating a dead horse since other people were commenting in the thread as well. I guess if your congratulating someone, its ok, but asking questions, well, thats not. Sorry if my attempt to continue a discussion inteferes with your forum time. Feel free to abandon the discussion if you don't want to follow it.

Man, i miss the original dUmb thread....

Quote:Would the same point of view not apply to the original post? I mean, crying because someone took an internet handle in a private forum that all are paying for is all well within the rules, but would it not fall under the "tool" catagory as well? Or is Belle exempt from that because people like him/her? What if it was someone we didn't like? One can act in a manner entirely within the rules and still be a tool.
These are the real questions behind this story.
These questions brought to you by Shu being back in school and needing research information for psychology and marketing. -

Linky anyone? :P -
Yeah, not really able to devote the time to running a league time right now, but I do have the time to participate in one. Plus if I were gonna start a team the "U" would have to be there some where, ala Ed and the fUnky bUnch IPvPL team
