  1. Wow. This thread is still alive? I thought it'd have been deleted by now. I may have to go back and tally up again...
  2. [ QUOTE ]

    o.O

I'm having a hard time understanding this. In the past, when the devs or mods were interested in poll results, the poll was posted with the forum software. A didn't notice that Anouke could do that... Seemed pretty obvious to me that she was just wondering what her fellow players thought, not what the devs wanted or anything... then again, I'm a flake, what do I know.

    [/ QUOTE ]

One heck of a lot more than certain fruitbats, that's for sure, hun....

    'I'm done and out' - AHAHAHAH!!!! What a ignoranimus....what a maroon!

Oh no...someone who just wanted to cause trouble left the thread! OOOoooOOOhhh the Germans are mad at me...ooh, the Germans!

OK. I've tallied up the numbers so far and we now have:

    No = 51.8%
    Yes = 38.1%
    Maybe = 10.1%

It was interesting to see how people approached a genuine direct question. Some insist on having to complicate the issue, others just answer...the figures hold some interest...but I want to see how the numbers change with more answers...

    [/ QUOTE ]

To be fair about it ... Your simplification lacked clarity.

Yes and No are obvious, but your Maybe was conditional and too restrictive to be the catch-all, gray area a non-absolute should have been.

I'm a Maybe ... But not by YOUR definition of it. At the same time I'm certainly not a yes and not a no.

I saw you take someone who said they were a maybe (based on the fact that they weren't a yes or no, but weren't your maybe necessarily) and explained a bit ... And toss them into the No category ... But they clearly stated they were a maybe in their mind.

I'm not saying your poll is bad, in fact I kinda like that you are trying to find out where the community stands on one of the most controversial (and emotional) parts of the game.

But don't be surprised about the inability of people to simplify their opinion to a one word answer, when your definitions for the one words, aren't all encompassing.

Maybe you should have made it ...

    Yes
    No
    Other

    Where

Yes is ... Yes I enjoy and do PvP in CoH/V.
    No is ... No I don't PvP in CoH/V.

Other is ... Anything inbetween Yes and No for whatever reason or condition. The reason and condition is unimportant, that you aren't a Yes or No is.

That way you find the definite yeses and noes and better understand how big (or little) the gray area between is (or isn't).

The way I saw a lot of answers, people were forced into a yes or no, when they didn't really feel like a yes or no.

I find that in most things the absolutes are very rarely where the majority sit ... It's kinda like politics. Most people are neither ultra conservative, nor ultra liberal ... They sit somewhere (to varying degrees) inbetween.

The world really is one big gray shady area

    [/ QUOTE ]

See? Now THIS post is actually suggesting something, at it's intelligently written.

The point of this thread was to NOT be like _Castle_'s discussion thread in the PvP General forum. The discussion thread there is for the grey areas. What I wanted was for people to not go 'ahh umm, but and erm', it was to actually see how people would answer when confronted with a direct question asking for a direct answer.

As you can see, alot of people could actually answer yes or no, and to me that is fantastic. It sparks off more debates and interest in the subject (I daresay some people have visited the PvP General forum since I put this up? yes/no? )

What this post has generally managed to do, which I think I deserve a medal for, is it actually asked a question about PvP which didn't turn into 'omgz, gankers!' vs 'omgz, carebears!'.

    Flawed survey methodology.

    Results worthless, IMO.

(and for the record, I'd say the same of ANY forum poll claiming to be able to determine what the majority of players feel about anything, considering the number of filtering steps involved - people who read the forums, people who see the survey, people who care enough to answer, etc etc. You'd be astonishingly lucky to get an accurate sampling of 1% of the population - that's one in every one hundred players.)

EDIT: Heck, Cryptic themselves would be lucky to get that level of response, and they have everyone's email addresses.

At any time that the OP or anyone else thinks that the posts on a given forum thread accurately reflect a "majority opinion" about anything, please compare the number of unique posters on said thread to the current approximate number of subscribers to the MMO.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Uh-huh.

Strangely enough, I'm not stupid enough to even consider that the forum population is representative of every player in the game.

    What I do know is:
    1) The forums are responded to by the developers.
    2) That a cross-section (as previously stated) can actually give an idea of the amount of people who are swayed one way or another.

In today's world ANYONE would be stupid to trust the results of a survey....after all, it's amazing how on the TV adverts for beauty products they always come up with a 70%+ figure (high enough but not so high as to arouse suspicion) from a completely random number tested (why such a random number? Because they used the surveys they wanted..).

Actually the results of this have been quite interesting to me. Especially if I wait 6 months and ask the same question and see the results then.

If you didn't want to participate then fine, please keep out of the thread, coming in just to point out what you believe are flaws and mistakes is a very poor way of participating in the community.

    Two quick things:

How were sort ofs and sometimes counted? Not at all?
    and
I'm not particulary fond of your use of maybe. It seems a lot of even the yes-es could fall under that.

    That is all, carry on.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You'd be surprised how many of those comments actually answered the question really with a yes or no if you read them with the question in mind.

My reasoning behind the maybe was because I wanted to see how people are with the current system, but if they could possibly do without the ***eholes that plague the zones as they are. The idea behind the 'instanced zones' was that if you could get 2 entire SGs into it by invite you could really possibly enjoy the zone PvP...

I figured the arena players would be happy with PvP (relatively) and would answer with a 'yes' anyway...

I want to like it. But since you've limited the discussion to trivial non-informative responses that's all I can say.

    [/ QUOTE ]

A link to the discussion version of this thread about PvP was posted by _Castle_ earlier on in this post (it's in the PvP General forum). This post was purely to gather numbers.

Actually, sometimes the straightforward straight-out responses cut through the 'well, maybe this and maybe that, or maybe this...or perhaps that' bunch of complaints that happen all too often in PvP discussions. I wanted to answer a couple of simple questions. Are all the people who constantly claim numbers about liking or not liking PvP anywhere near correct in what appears to be assumptive statements? And also...Can I see a reflection of the numbers in a cross-section of the community with a simple question without getting a load of negativity and 'I wanna give everyone a lecture' posts?

(I'll wait for the irony (or is it hypocrisy) of my own post to sink in...)

OK, I'm going to count numbers up tonight and see what we've got..
  8. [ QUOTE ]
Eh...I don't really agree with what you assigned as "maybe"...so I'm going to have to say:

Yes. I like PvP, but I don't like it in CoX. Instancing wouldn't change that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

There's a few reasons behind it.

    That's a 'no' then.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
I don't know how to give a one word answer.

I've tried it a couple of times and didn't see what the big deal was. I don't really think about it one way or another. I don't hate it, don't love it. I don't really know anything about it to be honest.

    Does that mean "no"?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Do you like it when you participate? It doesn't have to be about extreme feelings. If you really don't have any interest then the answer would be 'no'.
  10. Heheh. I'm also curious as to how many people missed that the same question but inviting discussion was posted up by _Castle_ in the PvP General board.

There's a value in both. One gives people the place to complain and say why....the other gives a straightforward answer and hopefully an idea about percentages and numbers.
  11. I'm going to leave this thread for more answers overnight (its 2:30am here) and count them up tomorrow afternoon.

    Goodnight everyone
  12. [ QUOTE ]
Ah, sorry about that. My bad. Thought that would be considered a maybe.

    Yes.

I edited it for ya, skwirwill.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Fixed it again. It's PvP in this game I'm asking if you like, I'm not asking if you don't like bugs...no-one likes bugs.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
    Sort of.

Edit: Moved my longer post to another thread.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Which one?
  15. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Its too hard to answer with just a word. I mean, I like some of the PvP aspects here, but not all... so I guess my response would have to look like:

    [ QUOTE ]
    Yeah, I guess.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, it depends on the situation but in keeping with the OP, I tried to stay as simple in my resposne as possible.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You know me...you know I'm intelligent enough to know that there are different reasonings and situations behind it - that's why I've cut through it all and just asked the question. I want to stomp on certain pre-conceived notions, whether they be 'everyone hates PvP' or 'everyone loves PvP' or somewhere in between.

    And answer your mail, you!!
  16. I'm going to make a special request of everyone on these forums to only post once in this thread. Ignore all baiting, arguments, opinions....

Could everyone just state once and once only with a 'yes', 'maybe' (maybe means you would play it regularly if it was changed to something like instanced invite-only zone-sized maps), or a 'no' to the simple question:

    Do you like PvP?

Ranting diatribes are unnecessary. All I'm trying to see is that if the 'majority' of people that are always claimed to hate PvP really ARE the majority and to what degree they are the majority.

    I start the proceedings with:

    Maybe
  17. Those are fair enough comments, although I disagree completely that loot is cool. Anything that separates the players from each other as much as loot did in WoW is just bad, in my opinion.

I think inventions are possibly the best version of 'loot' I've seen yet, but I've yet to see what the mid-long term consequences are, once everyone is stacking up IOs...
  18. Meh. The traps were always just a pain (no pun intended)...if you didn't have one of each AT some quests were just impossible or boring. I hated that you couldn't piece together a team of anyone (or nearly anyone) like you can in CoX and just go and enjoy yourselves.

The only really good part of that game (alright it's pretty too) was the voice of the guy they got to do the DM voices (and not that Gary Gygax person - his voice is just plain awful).
  19. Who is hermanstreet and why are they trying to put a cookie on my PC?

(Yes I know what a cookie is and everything, I'm just fed up with sites that I'm not even on trying to slap more text files onto my PC)

    OK, I'm being ratty.

Earth & Beyond was way better than WoW though...

....and DDO is boring unless you're playing with people you know in real life...seriously - I'm convinced everyone who plays that game is a 'dungeon master' on the P&P version and it really is a case of the proverbial 'too many cooks'..
  20. OK, how about we LOWER the level cap to 40...all enhancements are automatically appropriately lowered and we crush all the content down by 10 levels so that things are more interesting from the beginning of the game...

We could feel like heroes from the outset rather than joggers...
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Personally, I'd love to take a journey inside of the spacecraft, perhaps to defeat some Rikti AV? Come to think of it, the Rikti don't even have an AV do they?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, I was originally an advocate of the STF being about the Rikti (because Recluse and his cronies are people I've fought to death already anyway - and CoH and CoV shouldn't be mirror images of each other)....but now I'm guessing (hoping...praying...whatever) that when they move the storyline forward in Issue 10-11 that they'll bring back Hero 1 and that we'll be able to enter that Rikti ship...

Would it be fairly obvious to say that it ill be levels 50-55?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'll go ahead and squash that one now. Level cap is NOT going up in I10!

    [/ QUOTE ]

just cause the level cap isnt raising doesnt mean we cant get level 50-55 content :P make the heroes and the villains a zone with level 45-55 enemies in it along with missions in there

    [/ QUOTE ]

The RCS doesn't get any love as it is...why bother with 45-55 when 45-50 doesn't even get noticed, except for one visit to say 'oooooooh, big and bluuuue'...
  23. Nope. I think it works fine as it is. There are caps on the effects and the current method allows people to piece together the best team for themselves rather than having to work out a whole array of numbers every time they put a team together.

    Reducing returns would cause misery...

I12 then? I predict the uproar over no new sets in I9 or 10 will be enough for them to push whatever else off to 12 and make 11 then new sets (or Villain EAT) Issue.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Am I bad person for wanting both new sets and the villain khelds in I-10 or I-11?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Very...very....bad.....

    Naughty! Naughty! BAD L_A!!

I think they'll make one of those Issues a 'new AT' Issue, and call it something like 'Issue 10: A New Wave'...
