Is there no way to try new powersets now?

Have a mere 240 points, apparently can't buy any more, is there no way to try like dark control etc powersets?

Can you make them free or something? I don't see the harm since you aren't charging for them anymore.

I was really hoping to use them at some point :/

Use the NC Launcher to install the beta client. Log on there. Buy new powersets for 0 points.

Aye, beta is now open to everyone. If you're not VIP on live you still won't be on test, but you can at least get on there and "buy" whatever powersets the system would normally allow premiums to buy.
