This is Heroid...

Long story short, this forum account actually belongs to the wife of someone I know irl, but neither he nor she are going to using this account anymore, and since I let my paid account lapse and am otherwise locked out of the forums, my friend was nice enough to let me have their forum account since they were paid up.

So... YouKnowWho = Heroid.

I better see you over in Champions Online once Paragon City goes dark, Roy.

Polaron's gotta have someone around who recognizes how brilliant he is, after all.

You're tempting me to go over there, at least for a bit...

Polaron needs someone smarter than him around, after all, da?

I might give CO a look. I haven't played it since shortly after beta.

But, as I shared with Sorah...

I just got back to work after 2 ½ years of unemployment. When I first got laid off I started to cancel my sub because I didn’t think we could afford it (this was before ftp), but my wife made me keep it. She said I’d need it. And she was right. CoH helped keep me sane. It kept me from feeling like a loser because no matter how down I got about my real-life situation, when I logged on to the game, my friends were always happy to see me. I felt like I had a place where I was still valuable, where people still respected me and liked me.

CoH was so much more than a game. I'm not sure it can be replaced.

Heya!

I understand about online games helping to keep you sane during hard times.

Back when I played EQ(ages ago. I quit EQ right before CoH first came out), my Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. My friends in EVerQuest helped keep me sane then, when I was home all day taking care of dad. Friends are friends, y'know? Whether you are meeting them locally or online, the support they give is real. I have met some fantastic people online. They are fantastic people, regardless of where I met them!

Heroid, you are definitely one of the fantastic people.

Interesting.

You can reply if you were a former poster, at least.

Hey Roy.

Kind of like a funeral, where we all see relatives we otherwise would never see again.

Glad to see you back, even if it's for the end.
I hope I run into you some more in-game. And didn't you give me a link to some of your stories? I think I lost it.

Shae, you were one of the people I used to lurk around to eavesdrop on your rp. You helped teach me what role-play was all about. I mean, Shae and Drina Firewarder were powerful, mythical beings, but you played them like they were real people. It made me realize that I could roll a character (eventually Roy Kirby) and bring him to life in a realistic way. Thank you. And thank you for all of your stories and characters.

Hi, Jer! I hope that everything is going well for you!

And maybe it's not like a funeral. Maybe it's more like when a relative is very sick and the whole family comes together but then the relative suddenly gets better and everyone celebrates and you realize how much you missed being family. Or something like that.

I was your role model? Wow.

Heroid, when I wanted to run a story that changed a character of mine, you were always the most respectful of my characters' flaws, limits, and intentions. Passing stories for the forum back and forth with you shaped Shae and Steel butterfly...and certainly Tasenka!

I really appreciated the opportunity to write with you!

The links in my sig lead to my character profiles on Virtueverse, and directly to my biggest project, "Faces of the City."

If anyone's interested, I also have a page for my characters from Bethsoft rpgs (Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim (not yet, but coming soon) and Fallout 3). Some of them have short stories linked from their pages as well.

Those were the ones you mentioned! I have that page bookmarked now.

Those were some fun times! It's hard to find a group of players who are willing to put their characters out there for your stories and who are willing to allow their characters to be affected or even changed by the things that other players' characters do. But I've been lucky these past eight years in finding one group after another: the Gemini Park gang, Maggie's Rock, Westbrook Academy, Father Henri's...

I hope that November doesn't bring the end of the only online game I've ever wanted to play, but if it does, these were not wasted years thanks to all of you guys.

Oh my gosh! Blue! Yes I remember you! I remember the first time I saw you in Steel Canyon! You were standing beside a 5Th Column soapboxer using emotes to mock him! Wow! How are you?

I won't see either of you in CO - I just can't get past the graphics.

But I'll always remember to blame Polaron.

You two are on the list of people I don't want to forget. You can find me...so far as I know, I'm the only one who uses this handle online.

Hi, Sith!

And I am not thrilled with CO either. I know a lot of my friends are moving there so I'm making the effort but so far...

But we'll see how things shake out. You never know what might happen between now and then.

I'm on CO myself at the moment. It grows on you, bit by bit. The biggest hurdle is the art style and the sliders can make most of the difference there. I will have to catch you over that side.

Global in CO for those wondering?

In case you wondered, when the sun goes down, Moggie will be on her rock in Gemini Park. See some of you there maybe.
