Placing Research Platform in floor

I have been looking at some base pictures to get ideas to improve mine and have seen where it appears that you are able to place a research platform in a higher floor section so that only the workstations are visible. Can anyone tell me how to do this, attempted this last night with no luck.

Burying anything into a floor level is about camera angle.

You have to have your camera nearly level (flat) with the item and floor. If you are angled too far "topside", your item will jump to the top of the floor. Some folks go so far as to angle their camera from below the entire base, but with so many items not having a "bottom", it can be tricky to hold onto them.

Hope that made sense.

Also, if you want to bury an item between floor levels, say between lvl 2 & 3, you will need the assistance of a floor tile. Again, camera angle needs to be flat-level with the level you want to bury on.

OR, one can simply place the item normally, select it again while holding the Shift key, and drag it down.

A lot easier.

LOL, sorry, I still occasionally fall into "old school" mode.
While it's true the shift key makes things easier now, I believe you still need a more horizontally flat camera angle.

I don't know, I've never had to do that. Shift restrains your object's movement to the Y axis only. Although it may be wise to adjust the camera to make sure the sunken part of the object isn't getting in the way of anything below it. That can be a problem in multi-floor rooms.
