FF/DP 'Fender Needs A Look-See

So my FF/ DP defender was terrible, terrible! So I finally dove into learning to use Mids and here's the result.

The build started based on a DP blaster build I once took from the forums, then adjusted for the FF side of things. As I'm not 100% yet with Mids, some of the levels I took and slotted things at may need some attention. Aside from that, did I make any other mistakes? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A few things at first glance:
You've hit past the rule of five with 10% HP
Health and Stamina haven't been slotted. So I'll assume you just will put a NUmi in Health and an efficacy in Stam.

Someof your IO sets are frankenslotted with a few lvl 30 IO's when you could have used lvl 50's. are you doing that for when you respec? If not then you could go with lvl 50 IO sets that have the same enhancement properties, but higher values i.e red fortune in scorpion shield instead of karma.
Also, in Rain of bullets you have 5 Oblits and an eradication proc. why not use the exact same oblit proc (only difference is chance for smashing instead of energy) and get the defense bonuses?

Ah yes, seems I did forget Stamina there. For some reason, when I open Mids, all those inherent powers at the bottom don't show up until I run my cursor over them. This new build rectifies that problem.

Going past the rule of 5 for the +10HP was a known fault, but this new build takes care of that, in addition to being cheaper (fewer LotGs!). I don't think there are any 5 breakers anymore; I really wish Mids had a function to show that (or does it and I didn't find it?).

The frankenslotted defense sets cap out the Def/End, and are cheaper than aiming for something like, say, all LotGs.

Rain Of Bullets has the Eradication because energy damage is less resisted (or so I hear), and my Def totals should already be pretty high, so a few more points don't seem to matter that much - famous last words perhaps... maybe I'll swap out for the sixth Oblit later when I'm proven wrong.

So, here's the new build.

I don't have mids on my mac, but a few things. The build itself has issues IMHO. With regards to power choices and slots.
I really have three basic recommendations and you can consider building/slotting as you like.

(1) Softcap yourself and make your team SR scrappers. This is easy and requires little work. One thing is that with FF, you should get the defense for your team as high as possible. Get your two team buff shields, dispersion bubble and scorpion shield. Maneuvers on a defender is great addition. This gives you 5 defense powers to slot LOTG recharges. Boom. Also, put the steadfast protection/defense in tough. It's easy 3%. basically, you can softcap this build with plain old IOs. I would also replace assault with maneuvers or better replace another power with maneuvers.

(2) recharge for HoB - DP is weak in terms of damage on a defender in general, however with hail of bullets, things begin to change quite a bit, so you want your recharge bonuses from IOs plus hasten to have it up as much as possible. You have good defense and mez protection, so play like a scrapper damnit. An SR scrapper too. HAHA. Linea_Alba has great DP advice in various posts and you may want to search those out to look for further slotting tips with DP. HoB is what makes DP a respectable set in the end actually, so you want it up as often as possible.

(3) Get in the middle of the action (you are softcapped and have HoB). So you have repulsion field. Avoid KB since you need to use HoB as much as possible. Keep the baddies next to you.. I don't like stuns either as they wander away. I find incendiary rounds makes the folks run a bit more than usual, and you always want to use those rounds, so no KB and no stuns. Get rid of repulsion field. I'd dump force bolt too, however if you keep, then one slot for accuracy and use those slots elsewhere. I admit that force bolt can be used as a get off me button quite effectively, so keep if you like. I enjoy the huge KB in secret when tanks, brutes and scraps aren't watching. Still in general, avoid KB, fear and stuns as these are not going to help you. Web Coccoon helps some, but usually I just take the scorpion shield and move on.

(4) Force bubble - Situational, and you do not have it. That is fine and actually makes a lot of sense, but bubblers are fantastic on trials for keeping melee damage down as they keep enemies away from the squishies. This goes against my HoB advice, however if you plan to do a lot of ritki raids or some trials, this is really helpful to the group. In this case, you are playing the defender more and less the offender. Anyway, I take it, and use it once and awhile, and slot it with a lvl 50 End IO (maybe modify it to better if you like). It's personal choice, but given some situations, I usually take it for those few times when it is awesome. If no room in build, no worries, but think it over. Ritki raids for bubblers are nice easy ways to get some inf and shards later on.

I admit I am not the best build advisor and without mids, I am limited, so hopefully other forum gurus will give more input, but I think building toward basic principles will make you much harder to kill and provide enough recharge to unleash some damage.

Whether or not FF is even needed by anyone at 50 has been a topic for debate on the forums. I've gone with the mindset "it's not? Then to heck with buffing my team, they shouldn't need me to hold their hand." So I work to get myself softcapped and then focus elsewhere, which ended up with me not taking Maneuvers. If anything I'd really rather have Vengence, but I couldn't make it fit and still be damagy... But I may still change my mind on Maneuvers, who knows. I don't need a Steadfast as my two sets of KinCrash provide me with +3 each (as well as +7.5 recharge each).

This was my goal. The build has +73% recharge to help bring up my better attacks that much faster. The DP blaster I have has shown me just how important HoB is.

I started a thread not long ago on the Defender forums about FB or Disp. Shield and after reading up on what was said, decided I'd rather have DB as it's area of effect is more manageable. That said, it's half-serving here as a set mule and I don't intend to drag it out very often. FBolt is a power I've always used to just keep a wandering foe off me, so that's for self-preservation, as you say. I took Web Cocoon only so I could then unlock the Disruptors for more damage goodness (and set mule four Basilisk's for another +7.5% recharge).

See above. I might make a second build for this guy with just the usual SOs, that strictly is just team buffer (which I found is pretty much "keep us shielded and we're ok if you don't do much elese, come tag along!"). If I do, I'll remember this advice!

Advice and critique is always appreciated, it helps me hone my thinking on "what's this build trying to do"?

As a FF/Elec and FF/Beam defender, I can tell you bubblers still have a place in this game. That said, I made some tweaks to your build.

1) Switched otu Mace mastery for Soul mastery. Lost of people LOVE mace mastery on their squishy toons but its wasted on a bubbler. Your defense is already great, so you should focus on resist, because if anything gets thru that defense you are dead. Also, Soul drain is a fantastic power that would be well used on a defender, since you want to increase your damage output. it also contains Power Boost, which will double your defense.

2) Got rid of a lot of your io sets that contradict your build. You want recharge for HoB but you didn't have LOTG slotted. you wanted that chance for energy damage but it would only be a 20-50 hp difference every 30 seconds. So yeah i replaced it, made that oblit set full, and got you extra 2.5% defense to melee

3) Gave you a total of nearly 50% possible melee defense, so that when you use soul drain just as effectively as a warshade using stygian circle to buff your damage and accuracy.

All in all now you are a uberbuffing bubbler, with great recharge, and can survive in melee, buff off your enemies, and dish out damage.

Okay one thing I notice is the placement of the Kismet +6%.

You DON'T want to place this in your Ally bubbles. Because it'll only activate when you spam the bubble.

Throw it in Dispersion Bubble.

Also, I'd be more inclined to build for defense.

Here's a "tossed together" build. It's not complete, nor is it optimized.

What it IS, is extremely hard to hit.

Well.

Looking at and pondering* the last two builds you guys posted I can see my initial idea doesn't hold up well. I was going for cheap soft-capping which would then allow me to focus on other stuff (mainly recharge), but these both look like lots of fun and also provide me some things I wanted (few/no purples, more Def, Resist, etc.). Now all I have to do is decide which I like better...

Thanks for giving me so much to think about!
