Beast Mastery/Traps Questions

All right, I've been neglecting Beast Mastery since I played it when it was in its first stages in the Beta. I have, however, been wanting to like it, and wasn't really happy with any set combos for it until recently.

I've built myself a Beast/Traps build within Mids, and it is looking lovely thusfar. But, as having never played Traps of the MM variety (I love it on my Dark/Traps Corr), I am curious about the Detonator power paired with my Beast henchmen.

1) Are Beast henchmen considered free-thinking or mindless?

--I've scoured the forums, but have not found anything about this, although I am more inclined to think of them as mindless, as the only free-thinking ones I know of are the human henchmen.

2) Does the damage for Detonator rely on enhancements in the power, or is it based off of the pet's damage? If so, does the damage get enhanced from giving red inspirations to your designated 'sploder? Additionally, does the damage scale with the pet's rank?

--I've found a bit on the forums about this, but nothing I've found was specific.

I thank you all for reading this, and have a great day!

P.S. If you would like me to elaborate on a specific question, I'll do my best to go more in-depth.

2) Detonator actually grants a power to the henchman, so that power relies on the enhancements and buffs that belong to the henchman. Slot Detonator for recharge, if at all. The damage does scale based on pet rank.

Don't take Detonator.

There are TONS of other powers you can use. Trust me when I tell you I didn't even use it on my DS Traps Semi Petless mastermind and that was the whole theme of having the demon blow up for me. The damage was so minimal that the temp hand grenade does more damage then that power. You would think purposely blowing up a Henchmen should be doing double the DPS of Time bomb or something but it isn't.

I'll still be taking it, regardless. If I want to see fur go all over the place, by god, I will.

In that case go for it .

One suggestion I do have is to use it on the Dire Wolf or at least the Lionesses as opposed to the regular Wolves. Unfortunately Detonator is one of the finalists for "most confusing power implementation" and does a LOT less damage from the lower tier pets. The non-human version functions as a power cast by the pet which means that it uses the pet's level and damage scalars for determining damage. So using it on the lower rank pets means it's damaged gets reduced twice, once because they have lower damage scalars and again because they are lower level so the purple patch reduces their damage.
