Performance problems after having installed new antivirus software

This monday I uninstalled my previous antivirus software, primarily because it had been expired for some time and I was adviced to get another. Former was Total Defense, current is Windows Defender.

When I had installed Windows Defender and started playing CoH, my graphics were acting up in the way of me only being able to see black silhouettes of my characters, with auras being the only thing colored. Also, when playing the game the movement in general are kinda stiff, like incomplete, if you understand. They feel different than usual at least, less flowing if you will. These problems occur while I play in Ultra Mode; while playing on Recommended and below the movement is more natural and less laggy.

In terms of trying to solve the problem I've tried both turning off the antivirus software and even turning off my Firewall, but all to no help

I am writing here hoping you people can help me solve this issue.

If your antivirus has been out of date for some time, I'd suggest some scans first for malware/virus's. Download and update, http://www.malwarebytes.org/ then run a scan. It only needs to be ran, then can be shut down. Then update/rerun it ever couple of weeks.

Also check some online virus scanners, housecall.trendmicro.com, bitdefender.com/scanner/online/free.html, www.eset.com/us/online-scanner, kaspersky.com/virusscanner.

I also noticed that McAfee Security Scan\2.0.181\SSScheduler.exe was running? Are you sure that Defender is the only antivirus product you've had on the system? Two antivirus type products will slow down a system, or cause instability.

Sorry for the long response, I haven't gotten around to trying it until now. Thanks for the tips however The malware stuff found a threat which I haven't been informed of elsewhere, so that's cool! Also uninstalled McAfee, but have yet to see if there's been a change in-game ^^

About the virus scanner sites, what effect would that have? Is it just a virus scanning software on the internet or would it have some other effects?

Chances are your new AV has some sort of built in firewall feature that is interfering. First thing to try is disabling the software completely and seeing if you still have performance issues. If that works you are done. CoH, as far as I know, doesn't send malware too your computer so if you keep your AV turned off while playing and don't do any risky browsing at the same time you will be fine. I have no idea which crackerjack box you got your current software I've never heard of but you would probably be better off with the paid version of Malwarebytes or good ol' free Microsoft Security Essentials. Doesn't really matter -the best defense against malware is still just knowing when not to click on ****.

McAfee scan is just a giant commercial for McAfee products disguised as a program that does stuff. Its a least a well designed commercial so it doesn't really affect performance to the point where most people would even notice if its there or gone.

The reason I mention you to do the online virus scans, was that you've been without antivirus for a bit. The online versions run scans for virus infections from their "cloud" database, not requiring you to install a full antivirus product. I would however make sure you get some type of good antivirus product installed after the scans. For free, Microsoft Security is pretty good and isn't to hard on resources, I also like and currently use Avast.

Do the online scans, then download/install a new antivirus product. Windows defender isn't an antivirus product, but protects against malware type infections.
