Blaster Bandwagon: Please Critique my Beam/Dev Build

Good day,

All this Blastery talk got me excited so I hopped on the (potenial) blaster bandwagon with a Beam/Dev.

This is my first Blaster build attempt, ever. I do have some experience with MIDS so I was able to do a few things, but I am sure I missed something.

Things that went well (I think)

- Went for 45 Ranged, this was a very primary goal
- Tried to control end use/recovery
- Tried to six slot all attacks
- Got 5 LOTG recharges
- Got Rangarok
- Hit is above 22% (might as well get that going now) w/o Aim

Things that I am most concerned with

- I am flying blind a bit, and don't know if power choices from pri/sec are off
- Took Musculature, but that was just kind of bread/butter thing, not sure where to go

Long term, I also will need (I assume) to get some more slots into the new Cloaking Device for maxing out regen/recovery, but that's another day.

Two things immediately jump out at me:

1. You aren't actually at 45% ranged defense. Cloaking Device only provides half of it's defense in combat so once the shooting starts you'll drop to 42.76% defense.

2. You skipped Single Shot. Now I will admit there is a strong argument for doing this. However it does have two things going for it. First you can use it while mezzed. Secondly it has a pretty much -regen debuff on it. If you use both Disintegrate and Single shot you pump out almost half the Regen debuff of a Rad Defender which isn't bad for a Blaster. Anyway those are very much a case of your milage may vary but it's something to think about.

On your general slotting I wouldn't bother 6-slottting Positron's Blast or Ragnarok sets unless you really like Toxic resistance. For Cutting Beam I'd replace the Dam/Range with a common Range IO and for the other two pull out a slot for use in Field Operative (the Dam/Range for Piercing Beam and the Proc for Overcharge).

For Targeting Drone consider Cytoskeleton HOs. It's not a bad idea to have a bit extra To Hit in order to counter debuffs.

In case you're curious, here is what I'm currently thinking of for my Beam/Dev. The Numina's and the Golgi in Health will be moved to Field Operative.

Quick build, which I think can be tweaked out a bit more.

Offers you range cap with stealth suppression at 46%.
Regeneration is a bit higher. Recovery numbers are fine. Way below the 2 point ratio with everything turned on.

Hover keeps you out of range in high ceiling areas. I actually hover blasted the cray fire farm back in the day on 4/8 setting from the elevator bank area with other range cap hover blasters I have.

You have a heal which again is helpful when your hover blasting.

I'm thinking Musculature Alpha, not sure if you should go barrier or the heal for a 2nd heal. I'm thinking heal to be honest.

If you wanted you could change it up and pick up scorpion shield and spiderlings if you wanted 2 pets.

Recharge is much higher then your build.

The one thing I was confused on was the hit buff. I added a Kismet to combat jump, taking away a Luck of the Gambler from Hover. The build up proc in Target drone I think was giving off false numbers because of how the proc shows up in mids ( basically the build up proc in mids always shows up as active ).

My recharge is higher and no need for vengeance, which is sort of wasteful for a LOTG +recharge, because it's such a limited power at times. Seems I never get veng off when I try. Even if I see someone is dropping I don't get it off at times.

Again quick build, about 15 minutes. I think over a few days of work it could be tightened up a bit more.

You could go Agility for the defense buff and work around that as well.

My view on Vengeance is that if I get to use it great but if I don't it's a power choice that doesn't need slotting and gives me room for an extra LotG 7.5%.

Now there are other powers that can work well instead but I wouldn't call Vengeance a waste, if you've taken the pre-requisites it's comparable to most of the other options for a one-slot power.

When I bring your build up in Mids, you have hasten depressed, whereas I do not. My build's non-hasten recharge is higher, and also is higher with Hasten up. Just pointing that out, I know you said you had a quick workup, and I appreciate it.

However, my ignorance is of blaster builds and the sets is clear, and I appreciate both of your responses. I am going to try digesting them here, and work on an updated version.

Aye if you can't get it any other way I agree. I just hardly use it on a build I am running atm. If I could get the recharge without slotting it in vengeance I would. But that requires some purple sets I am not willing to invest in. Though Agility now offers me that option so I might switch up.

Ahh, there you go. I didn't even notice the Hasten button. I just pulled up your build and viewed the totals then just created what I thought the build should be and compared the totals. That is where I noticed the whole it hit buff debacle in Target Drone. I knew 51% just didn't see right. That's why I stressed it was quick. I knew I wasn't looking at everything which maybe I should have and just waited to post.
