My main concern is the endurance consumption with all the shields, auras and the like.

I tore down the slotting and re-started from scratch. I wouldn't say this is the absolute best cheap build, but its a good start. Personally, I'd skip the fear and gloom auras on brutes and tanks, but I'm not sure what to replace them with as I'm lacking in slots. I did get the end use down to something slightly more manageable. I'm also iffy on my slotting in Dark Regen, I don't have Dechs' Claws/DA build handy so I was fumbling off of memory.

Okay, here's yet another pass at this. Last night I took GhostBat here through the Ouro TF at x4 and I discovered that the Oppressive Gloom is more useful than I previously thought, so I put it back in.
To mitigate some of the endurance burn, I opted out of Hasten, took Hover and Afterburner for a proc mule, and kept Combat Jumping for whenever I'm not flying.
I think I've got something manageable here, though I'm not used to not hitting the soft cap on S/L. Realizing I wasn't going to get there, I'm reassessing the importance of Cloak of Fear and Oppressive Gloom to cut down the incoming attacks.

Here's Dechs's Claws/DA build. I've run it myself and even while I'm still chasing accolades and incarnates I haven't had any problems with end management or survivability.

Of the posted builds I like Spyral's the best by a long way. What I will say is that there isn't really any reason not to have both the steadfast res/def as well as the glad armor tp/def in a modern dark armor build. PvP IOs are only about a hundred million inf if you're even a little patient and once you have a PvP IO of any kind all you need to do is use a couple converters to turn it into the glad armor global. For perspective, that one IO is more than half as strong as cloak of darkness yet costs nothing but a slot to "run." I'd also try to fit in a fury of the gladiator proc for a similarly powerful offensive boon.

When I say a couple converters, it does vary. Today I picked up the glad armor for my own claws/dark scrapper in the form of a glad armor end/rech. It took 15 converters, or five attempts, to turn it into the global. That's 150 reward merits if you have to buy them, but the way I see it is that I used to pay over two billion inf for that piece, what's a couple hundred merits when the inf price tag is such a tiny fraction of its former self?
Although I'd personally avoid CoF I left it in the build. I did some modifications to Spyral's build. Anyway, take a look at it and see if it works for you, or if you like the changes I made.

I took your latest build and tinkered a bit, gave up some recharge and got 45% s/l, 32.5% e/n, capped to hit vs. +3s (in everything but CoF with FA off), raised kb protection to 12 pts. I like to build e/n defense into DA toons to shore up the low energy resists. I left your powers as-is to not mess with concept, but some notes:
As a previous poster has mentioned, not running Death Shroud is giving up significant AoE dmg. I'd maybe drop one of your mule powers and steal the slots from taunt to run it.
I'd likely drop the other mule power for Soul Transfer. To me, it's worth losing a slice of recharge for better dmg and utility, but ymmv.
OG works fine on the base slot, you're not really gaining anything but set bonuses by spending slots there.
Cloak of Darkness grants +perception, so FA might not be as necessary as you think... however, it does grants to hit debuff resistance (very nice vs. Carnie dark servants and some incarnate baddies) and bumps the to hit on CoF to capped vs. +3s; I'd likely run that situationally.
