Converter Question

For things like In-Set Conversion, do "Heal IOs" all belong in the same set?

That is, If I buy a Doctored Wounds IO and convert in set, can I get a Numina? Or will it only be the specific set of that IO (i.e., another Doctored Wounds).

I know there have been some murmurs about people figuring out what in-set and out-of-set meant in a non-obvious way, and I'm trying to understand what converts to what. I read some page on Paragon Wiki that showed, for example, all the Heal IOs (Doctored, Miracle, Numina, Panacea) together.

Put another way ... is there any way to convert an IO to a Panacea other than starting with some other PVP IO?

PvP IOs can only be converted from and to other PvP IOs.

Very Rare (Purple) IOs can only be converted from and to other Very Rare (Purple) IOs.

So, you're never going to start with a Doctored Wounds and get to Panacea.

However, the one switch in Rarity that you can do is going to and from Uncommon to Rare within a Category Conversion. So, a Level 50 Doctored Wounds (Uncommon) will always turn into a Level 50 Numina (Rare) because at Level 50, only those two sets exist in that Category after excluding PvP and Purple sets.

Making big bucks off that kind of conversion has mostly tanked once people realized this and flooded the market with DoctoredWounds>Numinas and RedFortune>LuckoftheGamblers.

There may be a few niches left at lower levels, but you'd have to spend more Converters to make it happen since at lower levels, there are more sets a cheap IO can change into before you hit an expensive one.

OTOH, now that most people have cleared out their inventory of expendable Merits of all types for Converters, the prices of some sets should start creeping back up, especially as all the Staff and Beast toons hit 50 and create demand.

there is nothing like murmurs, converters are simple and clear...

people just can t read...

as some people asking if the enhancement must be crafted before converted... if it s not crafted, it s not an enhancement but a recipe...

so the converters are out for some months now... there is no more such things as murmurs or rumors... only facts.

I think you're interested in "In Category", not "In Set". "In Set" means in the same named set. "Doctored Wounds" is a set, so an "In Set" conversion of a Doctored Wounds always gives you another Doctored Wounds piece.

"In Category" gives you a random piece of the same level in a different set which enhances the same main function of a power, like melee damage, healing, slow, etc.. These conversions obey the following restrictions.
  • You can convert Uncommon pieces into Uncommon and Rare pieces
  • You can convert Rare pieces into Uncommon and Rare pieces
  • Archetype Enhancements only turn into other ATEs
  • Very Rare ("Purple") pieces only turn into other VR pieces
  • PvPIOs only turn into other PvPIOs
Given those restrictions, when you know the level, sometimes you know there's only one other set you can get when doing an "In Category" conversion. For example, at level 50, there are only two Uncommon/Rare "Healing" sets, only two "Endurance Modification" sets, and only two "Defense" sets. This breaks down at lower levels. For example, at level 40 there are four Healing category sets. (Reference.)
