Looking for advice for my Fire/Mental Blaster

Good morning, Blasters!

I'm currently in the process of drawing up a build for my Fire/Mental blaster whom I decided to dust off for incarnate content.

She's currently in SOs.

Anyway, I have a bunch of questions for you guys.

1. Right now I make frequent use of aid self while soloing, but I'm wondering if anyone's had any good mileage out of priming Drain Psyche for regeneration. Right now I have it slotted with a full set of Efficacy Adaptors, for the recharge bonus, damage buff, and substantial recovery lift off of just one enemy. With all the recharge I'm building for, I'm hoping I could use Drain Psyche for health instead and move the slots from Aid Self to elsewhere, especially since I have Ageless now. But I'd like to hear your thoughts first.

2. I currently have the blaster ATO proc in Blaze. It fires off nearly every time, if not every time, making it a devastating attack. Would it do the same if it was placed in Fireball?

3. Are there any situations in which you're glad you have Melt Armor? Right now I only use it to boost the damage of my judgements, but on blaster's debuff values it doesn't seem to even do that very well. I'm thinking it might be better if I just grabbed another stealth power for a lotg.

Drain Psyche provides more recovery than you'll generally need with no additional end mod slotting. I 6 slot it with Panacea and an Acc/Recharge IO on my Archery/Mental and am very close to the regen hardcap. It makes a noticeable difference, but will not do much good against lots of burst damage. I don't need Aid Self, but my Drain Psyche is also permanent, and is layered with softcapped s/l defense and good s/l/e resistance in order to help me get the full benefit of the power.

Keep it in Blaze. You'll get better results from it in a ST attack.

The -regen from Drain Psyche is really all the debuff you need. Going with Mu Mastery is what I'd recommend for the resistance to the three most common damage types plus a tAOE immobilize, which is very useful with a primary like Fire Blast- You don't have a taunt aura, you do lots of AOE, and things are prone to run away from you, thus reducing your AOE ability. If you can lock everything in one place (and not even have to worry about lining up a cone like some other immobs) it goes a long way to help alleviate that issue.

Edit: Also it's worth mentioning that Afterburner from the flight pool takes a LOTG which is where I get my fifth from. Fly can be one slotted with a KB IO and obviously Hover rules for the defense and the LOTG.

Huh, I thought I replied to this post last night but apparently I didn't.

Thanks for the reply, I'm going to follow your advice and keep the ATO set in Blaze and slot out Drain Psyche with a healing set.

I'm locked into the fire epic pool for concept reasons, but I intend to make the best of it by dying often and self rezzing even more often with all this recharge.

I wish I could get at least 20% ranged defense with this build, but buying purples is where my budget draws the line. Oh well, I'll probably end up using a second build for ranged defense exclusively for whenever I feel like playing a juggernaut.

Thanks again.

That's a shame especially considering that purples have become substantially cheaper after converters launched. I don't personally recommend playing anywhere but Melee range on a /Mental Blaster but that's assuming you have the resources to kit it out, namely perma Drain Psyche, softcapped s/l defense and layered resistance. Psychic Shockwave and Drain Psyche are such good powers that playing like anything but a hover scrapper on steroids is going to have an impact on how much you get out of them. WoC is also decent mitigation and extremely underrated in my opinion, but I'm not sure how good it would be without the Contagious Confusion proc.

Is the confuse really that good for mitigation? I currently have it slotted with Obliterations on the builder but only because I'd have six 6.25% recharge bonuses if I used Malaise's Illusions.

Maybe I should just tough it out and start working towards purples. I don't expect to buy all this crap in one night anyway...

I use 5 Coercive Persuasions and a FOTG -res proc in my WoC. People hate on the power a lot but my Blaster is so melee oriented, I'd say about every third time I hit an x8 spawn and wind up RoA, all of the minions are confused by the time it finishes casting.
