Fiery Embrace question/ponderings.

Ok, fiery embrace. The version melees have, compared to the Dom version.

Bit of details first..I think this is how it all works.

I remember when I made a dm/fire scrapper ages ago, before the update. Back then, FE simply game a..(cant recall exact numbers) 80% buff to all damage for 10 seconds, and a 100% buff to fire damage for 30 seconds. Obviously this was MUCH better if you were fire/fire, as another other melee damage set would only get 10 seconds of boosted damage.

Then the power was changed, so that instead of this straight up buff to damage, it would apply additional FIRE damage to your attacks, from any set. This was and is, much better for the other melee sets. Take an attack like Hack, from BS. With FE active, it will do (at base, unslotted) 112 lethal damage + 46 fire damage. The bonus damage is also buffed by enhancements and is abit under 50% of the attacks damage. Also..the fire damage ALWAYS goes from the enhanced damage of the attack, whereas Build Up, with its 100% dam (on scrappers) only works form the base damage (at least, thats what I gathered from mids data).

The great thing about this change, according to Numder-y people, was that if you were at the damage cap, FE would allow you to go OVER it, in a way that hitting build up would not. SO, clearly, it roooocks.

Now..my question.

The melee versions function as above, with power descriptions to match. The dom version however...

'Significantly boosts the damage of all your Fire attacks for quite a while. Also increases the damage of all your other non-fire based attacks for a short while. Recharge: Very Long'

It does not add fire damage to attacks..it just boosts the damage. So you have an attack like Fire Breath, doing 184 damage when slotted. With the dom FE going, it does 263 damage. Not shabby at all. However..IF FE was the same as the other versions, it would do 184 + 83 (about 45% of the enhanced damage) = 268! Sure it is only a difference of 5 total, but given that doms have a lower damage cap than brutes and scrappers (and tanks? I really dont know) surely the melee FE version would benefit them more, as well as the damage from their primaries.

Maybe when the change to FE came along, I just missed some detailed explanation on why the power is different for doms. Does anyone know? Or is it just..'WAI'? Without a reason?

I would imagine that the Dom version stayed the same because the power that increases fire damage is also tied into the attack set that does almost entirely fire damage. It's also the set's only "Build Up"-like power.

On Scrappers, Brutes and Tankers, Fiery Embrace is in a defensive set. That means that it can be paired with attack sets that don't do fire damage, and so will give less of a bonus. They changed it so that Fiery Aura toons have something more unique and useful in their set than a secondary build up.

Because they felt Fiery Aura needed a buff, and Fiery Assault didn't, I guess. They didn't just forget to change the Dom version, they specifically renamed the Dominator version and left its effect the same, to distinguish it from the new melee version.

Also, the Dom version still lasts 30 seconds instead of 20, so it's not just worse in every way.

Oh the melee one lasts 20 seconds now? I was too lazy to check.
Pretty much the reasons I were thinking of. Thanks guys.
