Quick question about the Incarnate Softcap

If, for example, I'm running a Shield character, how necessary is the iSoftcap? If I can get 59 Melee, and 45 ranged/Aoe, is that generally sufficient, or should I aim for 59 M/R and 45 A, or do i really need to get 59 M/R/A for it to be worth it?

Same for typed def, i figure all that needs 59 is S/L/E, and the rest is fine at 45, no?

They've done a very thorough job of making sure threats on trials and now in DA are distributed across a variety of types and positions. BAF and Lambda were heavily focused on s/l melee attacks and energy and psi ranged attacks, but now... It pretty much runs the gamut. The knives of vengeance, as just one example, are absolutely loaded with aoe attacks, so a position that is otherwise occasionally overlooked is awfully relevant on their missions.

I'd say just get as much defense as you feel comfortable with, as unsatisfying an answer as that is. You don't actually need to be softcapped to everything, even in incarnate content, to do just fine. Especially since for incarnate content you also theoretically have level shifts, fancy powers, et cetera.

I would go for the 45% to all, and use small purples to cap on i-content.

If you can get higher without compromising too much in the rest of the build then by all means take it, but don't sacrifice damage or recharge in the search for that extra defence.

This is what I would do and recommend as well. There's usually a ton of buffs flying around as well in addition to inspires.

In trials, at least, I've found 45% defense to be plenty for /SD, when backed up by Rebirth and carrying a couple purple inspirations. Admittedly, I have not yet taken a /SD to Dark Astoria, where being without team support is the norm instead of the exception.

For me, I found getting around 47% is better. That way, a small purple with 12.5% def pushes you just over 59% for incarnate stuff.

Of course, if you have paragon reward which increases the strength of inspirations, you might want to pick different numbers, but it's up to you.

This.

I mis-remembered the i-softcap when I made my last post. Curse of being away for a few months.

Thankfully you can probably eek out the extra 2% to hit this without sacrificing too much else in the build.
