Unable to load game after update? Is this normal?
Hi there,
Could you try the following?
1. Go into your City of Heroes folder (should be something like C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes) and delete the client.chksum file.
2. Start the NCLauncher
3. Right-click on City of Heroes and select 'Repair'.
Please let us know if that helps.
Thanks!

not intending ot hijack a thread but I'm having the exact same issue.
system: windows 7 64bit (fully patched as of this morning)
ram: 8gb
graphics card is up to date (updated drivers last month for BF3)
it came up that a crash was detected (no there wasnt, well, there was a graphic card hang but the game repaired and played fine after that on Monday). Now it just tells me to run the repair. Did this (many times), moved the .chksum files out of the folder and ran it again . same issue though it did create a new checksum file so it definitely has write permissions and there was a .chksum.patched file in there that has not been recreated. it looks like it was created when I ran the updater first).
One thing that is a bit weird. NCsoft launcher said it wasnt running with admin priviledges and would I liek it to. I said yes. This only happened after the patch. up to now that has never been a problem that needed a setting.
a quick update. I shutdown the PC (not restart, shutdown) and left it off for a few minutes then tried again. It downloaded a 1.6gb file and now is working happily. (there was still a client.chksum file in teh folder when I ran the repair the last time).
Thank you for the assistance, and my apologies for the delayed response.
I was able to get into the game and repair/re-download the update after a restart of my entire system!
Thank you all again for the suggestions. They were greatly appreciated.
the checksum is part of the validation system - the files when analyzed a certain way return a value - the checksum file stores the system's check of the files. You delete it to force a recheck/reverfy with the server. And then the system recreates the file. It always will.

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.
I get this same thing sometimes. Basically, it seems that sometimes when the game crashes, there is a file left open. Because it is open the patcher can't update it, so the update fails. Easiest way to tell if this is happening on windows is to open your task manager and look at the processes tab (not programs). If there is a hung file, you will see "cityofheroes.exe" as a process even though the game isn't running. Unfortunately, Windows seems unable to kill the process. When this happens, the only way I have found to resolve it is to reboot the system.

Good evening, I just updated today's patch onto my CoH: Freedom, adn when I tried launching the fame itself I got the following message:
"We have detected missing or corrupt game files, please run the "Repair" option in NCsoft Launcher to fix this. The game will now exit."
Whenever I click repair the process just repeats itself.
What solutions are available for me so that I can resume game-play?
