CoH Crashing possible conflict with drivers

Hello All,

I am currently experiencing a large issue when trying to play CoH.

My rig is as follows:
i5 2500K @4.5Ghz
8GB Gskill 1333
Asus P8Z68-V Pro
2x Gigabyte 6970 in crossfire (CCC v11.11)
450GB Raptor

Doesnt matter where I am, what time it is, or even what im doing it seems to crash roughly every hour. I was trying to respec a MM toon to remove all the IOs from her since I do not play to stay premium, got about all the way to the finish and crashed, had to eventually force shutdown with power button.

Checked the logs and the message says something along the lines of cityofheroes.exe has stopped interacting with Windows. Will get a screen shot of exact message or post verbatim the text of the issue. At first I thought to myself, OK maybe 16x AA is a bit harsh for an MMO, even at 2AM. So I cranked everything down to lowest to see if it was the graphics causing the hangup. Pushing the lowest settings possible it still crashes.

I have not tried to disable crossfire and see if that is the issue. One thing I hope to try later tonight, but has anyone else had an issue or seen an issue like this?

As well, I hope to return to CoH as a free player as I loved the game for the PvE, just with college, couldn't afford to keep the subscription up.

Downgrade your drivers to 11.9.

Also post in tech support next time, more folks will be inclined to answer.

Oh my! I did not even see that forum. Figured this was a player help question. My mistake. I will try the downgrade after the crossfire disable.

Would it be ok to repost in the right forum?

Yes. And don't just downgrade the drivers. Uninstall the current ones, reboot into Safe Mode and run Driver Sweeper, reboot into normal mode and install the 11.9 drivers.

Avoids driver corruption issues that way.

EDIT: It is also advisable to follow the steps in Hyperstrike's [Guide] Asking for technical help on the forums thread that is in the Gameplay/Technical Issues & Bugs section.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Thanks sincerely for the help. Downgrading to 11.9 after driver sweeper looks to be working just fine for me.

What is the issue with City Of Heroes and 11.10+ CCC/Drivers? With as many players as CoH has statistically half are on ATI/AMD cards, one would think this issue would be a lot more common and therefore fixed or even patched.

Who knows? Not me, that's for sure. I chalk it up to pixies and do the driver dance when necessary.

Well, the drivers for the cards are not written by the people that write the game.

CoH runs on OpenGL and it's not as widely used for gaming as DirectX is. Driver support for OpenGL has been spotty for a long time, with nVidia and ATI both. Intel's OpenGL support is a barely there proposition, so I don't even count them in the equation.
