Patcher updated your client, the servers have not been updated to the same version yet. You're not getting in even if the servers are actually online. Check the client version vs the server version message when you try to login - client is newer.
Assume they are down until you can actually sign in. The status window is correct most of the time but, thats only MOST of the time.

I usually just look up "City of heroes servers" and check that rather than take the patcher's word for anything.

the new NCSoft Launcher had a cool place to click on to see instant server status except that it lies.
from the launcher .... server status ... all servers are up and green
from the website ... server status ... all servers are down and red.
I can't log in so the website is currently correct.
It's not like the website is always right either, I have had the website say the servers are down and I can still login. The website says not to refresh the screen that it will do it automatically but it has been my experience that it doesn't update by itself.
