Window scale re-setting (may be due to older ATI Radeon 9800 drivers?)

I'm having a weird graphical issue on an older computer after the 11/10 patch.

I have an ATI Radeon 9800 graphics card. I'm running in Windows XP.

I see that per this thread, I am supposed to use the older 9.3 drivers for best results -- which I am, according to my ATI Catalyst Control Center.

It's worked fine for me for a long time, but since the patch, I am warned that I probably need to update my older drivers. But when I log in, my "window scale" setting in \options has reverted to the default (100% scale) from my usual 80%. Also, my windows have moved around from where I usually anchor them.

It's little trouble to re-set my scale to 80% and drag my windows back around to the way I like them, and save the results. But each time I log out of the game entirely, it re-sets the window scale to default and shuffles my windows (probably back to some default position, but I am not certain).

How can I fix this?

Can't buy a new card, as I am told I will have to buy a whole new system to support it.

Suggestions?
