Build Critique: The Rusty Sword and Board

It's been awhile since I've done this, so be gentle!

I'm interested in running Incarnate content, soloing ITFs, general AV soloing, and taking down a damn Pylon for once, but I'm not particularly interested in setting any records. Build goals include:

Soft-capped Defense with a Parry.
Incarnate soft-capped with a Parry and a Luck.
Keeping set bonuses when Exemplared to 28.
Parry -> Disembowel -> Hack -> Headsplitter -> Hack attach chain.

I think this is infinitely sustainable if I turn off Grant Cover and Sprint, but I only looked at averaged out Endurance costs. The build's downsides for me at that it uses more Purples than I would care for, it doesn't have Tactics (Confuse Resist), the chance to hit +4s is lower than I'd like (level shift takes care of that, right?), and I would kinda liked to have Confront.

So, what'cha think?

Phalanx Fighting is Auto and doesn't cost you for it's base-level defense bonus. Swap that for Grant Cover which sees a lot of value in the late-game and you'll have an easier time on your end and higher defenses to make up for it while at or near 28.

Good catch!

I switched things around a bit more and have PF at 22, Boxing at 24, Tough at 28, and GC at 49.

Something else I was noticing was that you're using the Alpha recharge. You might consider Cardiac, it'll improve your damage resist and your overall endurance consumption which might be a problem in extended fights (read: AV's)

But I'm not as thoroughly read up on Recharge builds vs Defense.

Thank you for all the help, Mercator!

I didn't think that Cardiac was the right choice since Recharge seemed to be the lynchpin stat of the build - both the attack chain and the Endurance solution were dependent on high levels of Recharge, which only seemed possible through perma-Hasten and Spiritual. However, it got me thinking, and I redid my planned DB/SR build with Cardiac instead of Spiritual, and the build looked much better for it. However, I've since redone it again with Musculature and still have my best build for it yet! Then, thanks to all that rebuilding, I gave BS/SD a fresh go with new lessons in mind.

So, even though the suggestion didn't really work out, it really helped *both* builds! Funny how that happens, eh?

In any case, here's the new BS/SD build. I decided to ditch Hasten since I really didn't like the hand glow extending through the shield. With that in mind, here are some differences between the builds:

- ~50 more HP
- -1HP/sec regen
- negligible DPS change (by rough, rough napkin math)
- less diversified procs
- Shield Charge is 6 seconds slower
- less vulnerability to Defense Debuffs
- gives Assault to the team
- better OwtS
- more reliably infinite Endurance

I'm pretty happy with the new build. I don't care for the gap between Headsplitter and Hack or Shield Charge being slower, but since my DPS seems about the same then that just means this build responds better to Recharge buffs!

How's it look?
