What the heck did they do to regen??

Just had another otherwise great night of gaming destroyed when I made the mistake of going against a 52 EB solo (Trapdoor). My MA/Regen scrap used to be able to do stuff like that. It wasn't easy. I needed a full belt of insps, but I could do it. He was my first and favorite toon since beta.

This time against Trapdoor, I got owned in under 30 seconds. I don't just mean it was a little harder than fighting Tyrant. I mean whipped like a rented mule. I think I might have gotten him down to 1/4 health but he took me out with like 3-4 hits -- with Dull Pain and Instant Healing both active. By himself. He didn't even drop his minion pets until after I had died.

So I asked a couple friends for help. A level 27 WP/SJ tank and a Controller. They slapped him around silly -- WITHOUT me. They ran up ahead of me while I was still taking out Trapdoor's little minions and before I could blink, he was dead. The controller didn't even have to heal once. WTF?? I know SJ is a nice attack set but come ON. He's still a tanker. Talk about embarrassing.

I know they nerfed MoG ages ago, and I don't care. I never wanted or needed it. I remember when IH was a toggle in the days of yore, too. When they changed it to a click, the powerset still rocked for me. I was in the minority that actually liked it better that way. It made the game more fun, just challenging enough that I had to think during fights for a change.

Did they do something else to the set? Or am I really just that rusty? Or is Trapdoor really that unbalanced vs anyone without massive damage reduction? It is so depressing to think that I might need to lower the difficulty on my once best character, who soloed 95% of the way from 1 to 50.

It just got a buff not too long ago.... Resilience has resists to all now not just s/l and it got increased a bit.
ohhh and it got some resists debuff to -regen now

the MoG buff before that...

So it's seems fine to me

I'm not sure how Trapdoor is as a 52 EB. I think I only fought him at 50, but didn't have problems.

When was the last time you played Regen? Moment of Glory is now 15 seconds of near invulnerability, and a power that most Regens love. Resilience got buffed. Regen as a set is mostly about recharge and click powers. It helps a lot if you can also give it some decent defense.

As an example of what Regen is capble when built and played just so... oh, Iggy already posted. Yeah, go watch the movie in his signature.

Probably mostly rust!
Also, sometimes you just get caught. It's possible you could have run back in and taken him solo the next time. When you can't rely on pure defense or resist, sometimes you get knocked around... sometimes you don't!

Don't lose heart! It shouldn't be that bad! Just a bad experience!

Sometimes you have to use Dull Pain pre-emptively (i.e. not getting its full heal in order to keep from being bursted to death)--not to say it should be used immediately, just not waiting until you're low so low on health, one big hit will get you.

IH is still IH, which really makes it, especially in combination with Dull Pain, a mini T9. MoG is now awesome. Much more awesome than it ever was. I'd never call it nerfed. Easily capped resists/defense with (again easily) 1/4 or greater uptime and no crash?

So basically, sounds like you're going to have to relearn Regen a bit. Happens to the best of us after a break from that character. Sounds like it's been a while, so after a bit of adjustment I'm sure you'll be fine.

Been reading a bit and I smell a respec coming on. One key thing I did not realize about the new MoG is that the crash and heal resist are gone. I left just before that happened, so to put my post in perspective, it was that OLD MoG that I hated. This, even though it's only 15 seconds... that actually sounds much more useful to my playstyle now.

My usual tactic with Dull Pain is to use it as my first heal of the combat. Meaning I don't go in with it on right away, but then hit it first once I drop to 3/4 or so. So not totally pre-emptive, but I never wait till I'm near death before using it either.

I had hasten going and everything that needed it was 3-slotted with recharges. Thinking back (cuz I can't sleep, so I'm running that stupid battle over and over in my head) that I wasn't paying enough attention to the Reconstruction button.

You're using Dull Pain correctly, particularly for the current state of the game. It's not your alpha absorber - Moment of Glory is. Though even with Moment of Glory, I think it's typically best to wait a second or two after entering combat for maximum survivability (thought not for maximum damage, of course). It provides so much protection that you can functionally consider it a heal in most circumstances, as by the time it wears off, your regeneration will have healed you significantly, possibly to full. Don't make that mistake with psionic enemies, of course. Oops! *splat*

Plus it was well, Trapdoor. You either need enough damage to knock him out before his gimmicky regen kicks in or have some way to attack him and his copies simultaneously.

The thing to remember about 15 seconds, is that with IH up, I'm getting 170+hp/s. That's 2,550 HP recovered during the invincibility of MOG without touching my clicks. Just remember it has a psi hole.

Even when I was rockin at my peak with MA/Regen, the one boss that I feared more than any other was the Ring Mistress.

3dent... if I had lived long enough for Trapdoor's hyper-regen to even activate, I wouldn't have felt as bad. LOL

Question: How do you guys slot MoG? If you're not using some IO set, 3 Recharges is a given. Do you put DRs or Heals in there, or would just the recharges be enough? I'd hate to give up other useful slots on attacks for a situational power unless it really needs it.

3 Rech. With [Resilience] you're capped for Resists when MoG is up, and it gives you over Incarnate Soft-cap level of Defense. (71.25% Resist all but Psi, 71.25% Defense all but Psi)

That is what I suspected when I saw the DR numbers in the power details. The devs really should not even allow Def or DR enh's in there otherwise players who don't read up on this stuff will gimp themselves.

Probably gimp ... likely even in the case of MoG. But /Regen has no DDR so consider what happens in a strong defdebuff situation such as your aforementioned Dark Ring Mistresses or other strong defdebuffer(s) (And I have been under the effects of 2 Masks of Vitiation at once on a soft capped /SR on more than one occasion). Bottom line they give us choices to decide what we think is "best" in many cases, I'd rather learn and make my choice than not.

Oh yeah. Nightstrike is back. This new MoG is amazing. I solo'd Captain Holtz at 52 EB. My buddy jumped in to help out with Honeree cuz I'm not that cocky. He defeated us once, but not so fast it was as humiliating as the Trapdoor debacle. Round two we took him.

And just for fun, you know how in his Incarnate mission, those 3 portals back there just keep spawning hordes of Ritki until you can't count them anymore?... we went in for giggles just to see how long we would last. That WP/SJ tank who bailed me out yesterday... He died. I managed to take down one portal mob, then had to run when my slow recharge heals were used up and Hasten went cold. But I survived. I bet I could have gone back and done it if I pulled a little to thin the herd.

Good God what a difference one power makes.
