Question about what ancillary pool to take on FM/SD

Im currently looking to respec my FM/SD scrapper, I have currently taken Blaze Mastery, Ring of Fire to get Fireblast and Fireball. I slot Fireblast with Apocalypse and Fireball with Ragnarok. So they are not too bad, and give me a ranged and another AOE attack but...

I was thinking that perhaps Mu Mastery might be better and this is my question, I could take Mu Bolts (ranged slotted with Apocalypse) and Ball Lighting (AOE slotted with Ragnarok).

This is my reasons as far as I can remember most PVE enemies have good fire resistance/defence but not energy. The Mu Mastery also provide -End to target and I could take Summon Adept which may come in useful when dealing with AV's or when Im in trouble unlike Ring of Fire which wont be slotted or really fit my build.

Please can some comment on whether my thinking is right about the fire resistance...

Someone did a study of all the enemies on both sides a long time ago. Taking a simple average (which is of course overly simplistic), fire resistance averaged 2.9% and energy resistance averaged 3.1%, so virtually identical, and typically not something to worry about either way.

IMX, enemies who are resistant to fire are not common, and most of those are just resistant to everything, so fire is not at any particular disadvantage against them anyway.

There are still occasional enemies that are specifically resistant to fire, and having some non-fire damage on hand for them can be nice, but it doesn't come up often enough to base a build decision on it, IMO. Better reasons would be that Ball Lightning requires one less power choice, and lets you get Summon Adept as you mentioned. On the other hand, Ball Lightning has a slightly longer cast time, does not do as much damage up front as Fire Ball, and is less satisfying than giant explosion

I may be missing something, but would you gain from taking Char with four Basilisk's Gaze?

Basilisk's Gaze, for a level 30 set, has awesome set bonuses. If you don't have enough slots for Lockdown, or don't need those bonuses to raise defenses, then use Basilisk to raise other stats:

(2) 2.5% Def (Energy, Negative), 1.25% Def (Ranged)
(3) 2% (0.03 End/sec) Recovery
(4) 7.5% Enhancement (RechargeTime)

The fourth one is particularly delicious...

Basilisk's Gaze is just lovely I think - especially on toons that typically get 5% recharge bonuses. But those 3 slots have to come from somewhere so I've no idea if it'll fit in OP's build. But if it does they'll get a good power with good bonuses instead of just taking a power they won't use. (at least that's the impression I get from OP)

And giant WHOOOMPslosions instead of boring Mu zaps.
