Only other program running is MS virus protection. Have tried it with that switched off, still crashes. Like I say can play fine for a few hours, or crash quicker, but never immediately.
Hmmm, temperature maybe?
It looks like the same problem a lot of people are getting at the moment which is that 2Gb basically isn't enough RAM to run the game and all the other bits and pieces needed to keep Windows up and running.
The real "solution" is to stick a 64-bit operating system and a couple of gigs more RAM into your PC, but in the interim there is a "workaround" posted here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=273543 which might help you. Please read the whole thread so that you're aware of the caveats.

I know my rig is ancient, but I was playing CoH reasonably enough at the beginning of the year. Since coming back I presume some new function in the game is affecting me.
Repeatable crash that I have now learnt not to do, but may be related. Going up two lvls, eg level up to 5 add the enhancement slots and then quickly click on lvl up again and start to choose your 6th lvl power the game crashes when the lvl 5 contacts pop-up. Does not do this if I only level up to 5.
Other crashes are far more random. The latest was me superspeeding in City Hall in Atlas -I hope it is not a speed of travel/graphics draw problem. Like I say I have a bit of game lag, and mothership raids are an amusing still life picture but never used to actually crash on me
Clipboard text from the latest crash -possibly out of Virtual memory? - I was allowing Windows to control it, but have customed sized it to 2 gigs as per forum suggestion.
Also should I have Virtual memory on both partitions of my hard? I didn't and CoH is on the second partition.

The game ran out of memory and must now exit.
Either that or because ceiling is spelt wrong in the piggy file...
