Have to log in to forums multiple times per day now?

So, I finally got to the point where I can log in to the forums by setting my account password on plaync.com to my existing password (Really?) but now there's a new annoyance: every time I go to the forums it requires me to re-enter my login name and password for access.

Since I visit the forums multiple times per day this gets to be very annoying very quickly. Why can't the forums remember who I am for months at a time like it used to do? (And it can't be "for security" since other websites, like Amazon.com for instance, are happy to remember who I am...)

When I look at my cookies I see @eu.cityofheroes.com and I see @goingrogue.cityofheroes.com. Should'nt there be an @boards.cityofheroes.com?

edit: nvm found it maybe it needs to be rewritten?

It's the game password you needed to change to something else and back, it also helps deleting your boards.cityofheroes.com cookie first too.

Feel free to pass this information around.

1. Delete your boards.cityofheroes.com cookie.
2. Go into your NCMaster account.
3. Select CoH.
4. Select Change Game Password.
5. Enter anything other than your existing game pass and ok it.
6. Select Change Game Password.
7. Re-enter your current game pass and ok it.
8. Go to the CoH Forums and login. (With "Remember Me" checked.)

If the forums keep logging you out after this then it is a CoH Serverside issue.

And a vbulletin known issue, as the following I PM'd the Community Team will attest.

Are you trying to login from a different subdomain to the domain listed in your sites settings ? If you are trying to login from http#//yourwebsite.com when your settings are set at http#//www.yoursite.com then you will get login problems.

Your cookie domain needs to be set to your domain to stop subdomains from doing this, Settings = Cookie and HTTP header setting = Cookie domain = change setting to .yourdomain.com

Another way to solve it would be to redirect your www. to your non www or visa versa.

NOTE: changing the cookie domain option mentioned above may have issues with your current members login or changing passwords as vB does NOT remove the old sub-domain specific cookies. There is a work around for that but it means editing files so since your site is only a week old it might be worth trying it and seeing if there is problems.

If you have already run the install/upgrade_402_salt.php script already then everyone in this thread should try this fix...

1) Reset the Cookie Path and Cookie Domain to the defaults. You should only change these if you have multiple vBulletin systems installed on the same domain.

2) Open your config.php file and change the cookie_prefix variable from 'bb' to 'vb'.

This should require everyone to log in again but the password hash will take into account the 30 digit salt as opposed to the 3 digit salt in previous versions. The 30 Digit Salt was introduced in vBulletin 3.8.5 and 4.0.2 PL3.

To recap, the problem that I and others in this thread have reported was that including or not including www in the forum address caused problems in logging in. For example, "http://www.mysite.com" allowed me to login correctly where "http://mysite.com" would not work. Setting the cookie domain to "mysite.com" solved the problem. Now logins from either address work correctly and the cookies are functional in allowing automatic logins from either address where before they would not. It should be noted that any old cookies that date prior to chaning the cookie domain need to be deleted by users. Otherwise, the login problems will continue.
There you have it, the domain needs setting correctly at Paragon Studio's end and the users need to delete their boards.cityofheroes.com cookie to force it to update from the old one to the new one, this should fix the forum login/mid use logout issues, please refer this info to the web/forum team and get it tested asap.
