You can solo AVs on SOs alone with Bots/Traps.

All you really need is [Provoke] and one of the two defensive shields. Webnade helps a lot by keeping them immobile too.

This. It helps to practice as you level, though. Always try to tank on the opposite side of your bots, especially against foes that have AoE attacks.

When you add IOs and Incarnate Powers into the mix, there's little they can't do.

So you can leverage bodyguard mode.

When your pets are in defensive/follow, /goto, or /stay, and in range of supremacy, you will share damage with your pets. You take two shares of damage while each henchman takes one share.

Example: 1000 point attack hits you in bodyguard mode. It gets split into 8 parts, each 125 damage. Each of your six henchmen will take 125 damage and you will take 250.

This doesn't work in reverse, though, so you have to keep the enemies from hitting your henchmen. Thus, Provoke.

How do you keep your bots from being in melee and keep them firing from a distance? Is that bodyguard mode then, when they stay by your side firing at a target from a distance?

Nah, that's pretty much the most important part. I'm in the process of writing a guide for Big Game hunting with a Bots/Traps.

The AI can be difficult, but with enough micromanagement, they'll stay put. Bodyguard range is the same as Supremacy range, which I believe is sixty feet. I know that I can keep my bots on one fringe of a Triage beacon while I stand on the other side and bodyguard is still active.

I have mine, which will be posted with the guide. But it's bloody expensive and maxed all to hell.

To take out an AV you really don't need that. Let me give you the important parts, though.

Provoke
One damage dealing attack, even if it's just Nemesis Staff
All robots and upgrades
Acid Mortar, Poison Gas Trap
Force Field Generator
Scorpion Shield or Frozen Shield

This much puts you at 45% defense to S/L, making you more than survivable enough, and provides the offensive tools required to tackle AVs.

Now add:
Two Defense IOs in Protector Bots
Maneuvers
+5% defense for henchmen IO

That will cap most of your bots to everything but psionics. This really reduces the AoE damage they take on normal missions and such, or accidental AV AoE damage if you can't keep them sitting still for a while.

Ok, thanks a bunch really helped me :P
Going to make one later today

Please do so. My first villain when CoV rolled out was a Bots/Traps. Problem is, he spoiled me so much that even my Crab Spider with all of his AoE attacks and pets pales in comparison

Nice :P
so do you have any tips as to leveling one?

For normal leveling (not AV fights):

  • Obviously, take your pets as soon as possible.
  • Make binds for your pets. Look in the Guides section for more info re: keyboard binds.
  • Web grenade and Caltrops for light control at low levels.
  • Force Field Drone and Triage Beacon will save your bacon.
  • When you get a high enough level, the Assault Bot makes a great attacker. Leave all your other bots in Follow/Defensive. When enemies retaliate on the Assault Bot, the other bots will jump in.
  • Poison trap, Poison trap, Poison trap!
  • Powers I personally skipped: Rifle Blast, Rifle Burst, Seeker Drones, and Time Bomb. Some people like the Seeker Drones though. Plus, my build is still pre-Issue 20, so it might not be accurate to post (I normally don't post builds anyhow).

Those are just off the top of my head. Enjoy!

I'm not only part of "some people" I view Seekers as essential as the "big 3" of FFG, Acid Mortar and Poison Trap (making it a "big 4").

* Alpha absorbers. I don't care of your chance of getting hit by an alpha is 5%. 0% < 5%, unless someone can prove otherwise.
* Extraordinary -dmg debuff. This I think is what's most under-rated. While the effects of this on a spawn for an alpha may be erratic, as to who gets debuffed or not, when you get to an AV/GM by himself, the seekers will stack their -dmg debuff, adding yet another layer of phenomenal mitigation, as this debuff is not part of AV resistance.

I'll pause now for someone to make some statement about how whatever damage resistance an AV may have can affect -Dmg......

Ok done? While this may be true in some cases, less damage is still less damage.

I view the stun and -tohit as a tertiary effect (and quadruciary??) that's an added bonus.

Edit to add - oh yeah, the Bots have Seekers of their own, so you can stack their effects to really enfluffify big game's damage.
