Advice on my Kat/DA

I recently returned to the game after a few years absence and am slowly updating my toons... I have seen very few builds for Kat/DA so I thought I'd ask you guys for input on mine. I'm trying to keep the build affordable and have aimed to be an above average toon capable of easily handling most things the game throws at us.

Am I wrong, or are there not a lot of great choices for my epic power? I hate having to constantly redraw my sword so I was going to go body mastery, but was thinking shadow meld might be a good emergency power or for taking the alpha. What do you guys think? Any and all input is appreciated!

I don't have any great experience with either Kat or DA, but I've noticed a few general things that I thought I'd point out.

I don't know much about the Villain epic pools, but I personally would've dealt with the redraw or went with Body Mastery. You're already 1 purple insp + 1 Divine Avalanche hit from softcapping your positional defenses, so you can save a power and use your insps.

Also, you are missing one important piece to the DA puzzle: the Theft of Essence +end proc in Dark Regeneraton. You have a good chance of filling both bars when you use the power (or at least you should get the end cost of DR back), so there isn't any reason not to slot it.

I feel like Weave and Maneuvers are underslotted (and Tough, to an extent, although it isn't quite as important). Also, noting your defense slotting, you are getting typed defense bonuses from your 3 sets of 3 Eradications, which aren't really useful in your mainly positional build.

And finally, I would most definitely have picked Sting of the Wasp over Gambler's Cut. You can slot it the same and get a more damaging attack for a whole 1 second higher recharge (without Hasten).

Just some thoughts.

The 1.563% ranged defense, 3.125% AoE defense, 1.8% endurance and 2.25% hit points are all VERY useful. The set bonuses from Eradication are great for a Sword/Dark.

Stick with Gambler's Cut. There's nothing wrong with Sting of the Wasp in and of itself - damage per Arcanatime is similar to Gambler's Cut. However, Gambler's Cut slots perfectly into the best Katana attack chains (including the two different defensive chains you'll likely be using most with a Katana/Dark), and takes better advantage of procs due to its very fast activation. In particular, it's the ideal spot for an Achilles' Heel proc.

Edit: You might want to look at this thread for some Katana/Dark advice. There's an older thread with a lot more options being discussed, maybe from a couple months ago, but I'm too lazy to look for it. If you see Desmodos and I discussing pros and cons of soft-capping a Sword/Dark, you're probably in the right thread.

Don't know if this was the one you were thinking of Werner, but I found the thread I started a while back where you, Desmodos, and myself were discussing Sword/Dark in depth.

As far as Gambler's Cut vs. SotW goes, I would go with SotW for early leveling, and respec into Gambler's Cut once you have Soaring Dragon and have it slottted, so around level 27 is when I'd do that.

If the character is already level 50 and you have all your attacks, stick with Gambler's Cut, for all the reasons Werner mentioned.

I hadn't thought of that, might have to give it a try.

I was being optimistic here and would like to eventually swap out the red fortunes for enzymes. =)

I was thinking of something more recent, but that's kind of where it all started. Some of it is surely out of date by now, but the general thrust of the pros and cons should still be accurate.
