What is a really good brute build???!!!
Most brutes work pretty well..
Ask yourself a question, though: do you want to spend a lot of time/money building the character out?
If not, you probably want to go with a more standard armor set, so you can be alive to do damage.
A lot of the super farm builds rely a lot on expensive/rare IOs to survive. Brutes do a lot of damage to begin with, so if you're Invulnerability, and you're not completely decked out, you'll probably do a whole lot better than a similarly build Shield character, regardless of the offensive Shield powers, since you'll be dead.
Personally I'm a fan of Electric Armor, and would probably recommend that to a beginner who's looking to survive and do damage. It's endurance efficient, has a +Recharge passive, a good self-heal, good resistances, and a damage aura! Decent middle-ground.
In fact, TopDoc recently posted a thread, "Cebr," (Claws electric Brutes Rule!) which shows that you don't even really NEED a super pumped SS/Shield build to farm. I can also state that Electric Armor does VERY well, even slotted for farming, in Incarnate Trials.

I'd say /Inv, /WP, and of course /Stone are the most tankerish armors on Brutes. /Stone has debuffs associated with granite armor that kinda hurt it in the damage department and has kinda become irrelevant, IMO, since incarnates.
With significant enough investment, any secondary can become awesome.
Fire/wp/soul.
Possibly the best brute all-rounder out there. It will survive well, and get even better with sets and incarnate powers. It does more damage than a scrapper fire melee toon, and has alllll those hitpoints.
The soul pool offers both damage and survivability in hefty quantities.
If you are looking for the broadest spectrum of ability, this combo is hard to beat.
Especially if you take vengeance.
Claws/inv is another great combo, as are many others.
If you pick a high survivability, low damage secondary like willpower or invulnerability, make sure to match it with a primary that can do AE damage. That's why mauk2's fire/willpower and claws/invulnerability suggestions work. I had a dark melee/invulnerability brute that I deleted because of the frustrating lack of AE damage [edit: I know Dark Melee has Shadow Maul, but its ease of use is nowhere near that of Foot Stomp].
For a well-rounded brute, with great single-target damage, great survivability, and decent AE damage, I would recommend Super Strength/Electric Armor/Soul Mastery. For single-target damage, you have Gloom, Haymaker, and Knockout Blow for attacks, plus double-stacked Rage, Lightning Field, and Lightning Reflexes. For survivability, you start out average for a brute (despite lacking defense, you have high resists and a heal), but by the time you get your defense soft-capped through IO enhancements and power pools, you become godlike. Your survivability especially shines in the incarnate trials where you have 58% resistance to smashing/lethal and 90% energy, the three most common damage types. And for AE, you have Foot Stomp, Lightning Field, and Dark Obliteration. Admittedly, it is not a seamless AE attack chain, but you can fit in a single target attack on a boss to fill in the gap.
As a great starting point to give you an idea how to build one, check out Auroxis's moderately-priced, soft-capped build:

1. Replace Mu and Ball Lightning with Gloom and Dark Obliteration. I would only go Mu Mastery over Soul if you were going to take both AE attacks.
2. Replace one of the Obliteration enhancements in Foot Stomp with a Force Feedback: Chance for +Recharge enhancement. It will help you Foot Stomp more often which will up your damage. Sure you lose 1.88% smashing/lethal defense from losing the 6-piece Obliteration bonus, but the -tohit from Gloom and Dark Obliteration make up for it. In fact, you could probably further adjust the build to sacrifice a little bit more defense for more recharge, as I did, but, again, this should be a good starting point. Also, this build thrives on recharge, so make sure to pick the Spiritual Alpha.
Hi guys, I have just started taking interest in tankers, cause I would usually be a blaster. I wanna know what is a really good brute build cause I havent really experienced one. SO I need some suggestions about brute builds. I want a brute who has decent defense and really good resistance, one that can jump into a mob and take the damage and can also deal pretty good damage. Thanks if u gave me some advice =)
