Check Globals Without Logging In
Unfortunately this was one of the features that the City Vault was supposed to have, but they found that connecting the external interface to the game servers caused game-crushing unplayable lag.
Agreed, this would be very nice... but it's not highly likely to occur through the official game/website.
(Maybe this is something that could eventually be done through the CoH Titan 3rd party application?)
Main Hero: Chad Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1396 Badges
Main Villain: Evil Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1193 Badges
Mission Architect arcs: Doctor Brainstorm's An Experiment Gone Awry, Arc ID 2093

You can sort of do this now with City Info Tracker, but it's cumbersome. What I've done is create a webpage stored on my personal server that loads my friends' CIT avatar icons. I can add and remove people as I wish. Of course, this requires people to download/use Sentinel/CIT.

Titan Network 2.0 is in the beginning planning stages, and it will have a "friends" integration, including online status for mutual friends.

I'm not sure about everyone else, but I find that depending on which of my global friends are online, that it will dictate what character to log in as. I may know that someone is running a BAF at some point during the day, but may want to check if they're actually online before logging in, or see which of my RP friends are around so I can log into the appropriate toon.
It'd be much easier to do this without having to log in, check globals, log out, then back in. All that hastle could really be solved by being able to check globals from the character select screen.
