AV Tanking
Pretty much any tank will tank an AV. Willpower does have a lower strength taunt aura, but you should be able to keep an AV on you as long as you have Taunt.
I've soloed AVs with my Inv/Fire tank (with Cardiac Alpha, but not using other incarnate abilities). Other tanks might have an easier time of it.
Comrade Smersh, KGB Special Section 8 50 Inv/Fire, Fire/Rad, BS/WP, SD/SS, AR/EM
Other 50s: Plant/Thorn, Bots/Traps, DB/SR, MA/Regen, Rad/Dark - All on Virtue.

I soloed the marin jenkens arc on my fire/fire tank before the incarnates came out, the only AV I had problems with was Diabolique since she likes to run from you. But like said before it also depends on what you like.
I'm a huge fan of my Ice/Stone Tanker. He's got piles of defense, -Dmg debuffs to work like resistance, and plenty of mitigation from /Stone. Also, it's a big aggro magnet with a double tank aura.
Too many alts to list.
There is no situation that forces you to solo an AV. You can fight them as EBs when solo. It is just bragging rights if you can do it.
Not many AVs do enough damage to kill a defense-based (SD or SR) Scrapper with minimal self-healing, so surviving isn't too difficult. The AVs that almost require a Tanker are the buffed Lord Recluse and Reichsman, though I have seen Scrappers tank them.
The main obstacle when soloing an AV is beating their regeneration. If you want to beat their regeneration, you need a set that does a lot of damage per second. Permanent or reliable damage buffs help a lot. Dark Melee's Soul Drain can be made permanent with the right build. Rage from Super Strength can help, especially if paired with a secondary that does damage like Fiery Aura. Melee sets with defense debuffs can be slotted with resistance debuff procs for a slight increase in damage. Any other set can be made to work with inspirations but will likely kill slowly or won't beat the regeneration without inspirations.
Any Tanker build can tank AVs for a team. Some may require more support from the team than others.
For soloing AVs, as mentioned above, the key is to have enough single-target DPS to overcome the AV's regen. But even without great single-target damage, probably most Tankers could solo AVs once they have a Lore pet.
For taking on an AV, probably the easiest set to do it with is Stone Armor, one you get Granite. It's not a particularly forgiving set before that, but one you have Granite you can tank just about anything out of the box, without a fancy build or even anything more than SOs.
However, with a well-built team, any Tanker can hold aggro on an AV. Hell, a Scrapper can do it. My first level 50 was an Empathy/Electric Defender, and together with a friend's Broad Sword/Invuln Scrapper, we duoed just about every AV in the game... we even took on Lusca, although we gave up after two tentacles when it became clear it would take forever.
If you're looking to solo an AV, I'll leave that to more knowledgeable people in this thread, but if you just want to get through, absolutely anything can solo an EB with the right strategy, caution, and inspirations. If anyone wants to dispute that statement, I can point to my petless Mastermind, who soloed an EB in the teens, pre-inherent-Stamina.

I disagree on this, both WP and Invulnerable can also do well soloing an AV with just SO's You have to also remember there are some AVs that do psi damage which is the week point for Stone and Inv especially the ones in the Arc to get the Accolade.

Also, I wouldn't say Stone's weak to psionic damage. It's silly to skip Minerals. Turning off Granite to tank the Psychic Clockwork King is fun.

I'm not saying I think that Willpower and Invulnerability can't do it with SOs. I think any set can do it with SOs, if the player knows their stuff or is on a team . I just think that Granite is still a pretty standard benchmark for tanking AVs.

Figured I'd throw this out here, being I'm looking at making a few more tanks on my account. What builds are best for tanking AVs? And which could I solo an AV with? Don't have to give a mids link with the posts, but it would be appreciated, as I'm trying to learn how to make some good tanks so I don't always need to rely on you all ^^.
