Symbols in chat

I see people all the time that have little symbols added to their chat. Hearts, stars, etc... How do they do that? I know it's some kind of keybind like how you can get the chat bubble to show up while you are typeing (I need that one too), and I have asked several times in game how it's done, but I never get an answer. Could someone please tell me how I can add a spade symbol (like the one on the ace of spades card) to my chat?

Well I was gonna put up a picture but it won't let me.

AFIK, it's done by holding down alt while typing in a number from you numberpad (not the numbers that have shift symbols attached to them).

I just googled "symbols in text"...

This webpage might help.

♠♠♠♠♠♠♠ ♥♥♥♥ ♫♫♫♫ ™™™

Edit: it seems that the symbol won't appear until you've lifted the alt key after typing in the number.

From what I can tell, CoH chat input supports Unicode characters, though if you use them in /beginchat, it tends to bug out the input field.

The keybind for the chat bubble to show up over your toon's head while you're typing is: /bind enter "AFK whatever you want to say here$$startchat"

As mentioned, City of heroes supports a variety of 'hidden' symbols, an easy way to enter them (in windows) is via the alt+numpad method. (See Impish's link) I love these in mission architect and for emoting. I myself like the song notes, for a character/NPC singing.
