Set Bonuses VS. ED cap

I am currently leveling a BS/SD scrapper and am at the point of starting to look at builds. One thing I have noticed is that in many of my builds to cap Defense I am being forced to choose sets that do not hit the ED cap on damage for the individual powers. I am wondering for all you math gurus out there...

How far do you chase Set bonuses to the detriment of the individual powers?

I think it just depends on if you're willing to sacrifice bonuses to have a better ED, or if you're willing to sacrifice your ED to have the bonuses. Myself, I generally go for the bonuses, especially +rech and +def for my BS/SD. (Of course, I didn't know anything about ED until recently, so that is part of the problem lol.) It comes down to what you're trying to do with your build and whether or not ED or Sets fit better with that idea.

I personally chase set bonuses very far indeed. That said, most sets at least offer decent enhancement of what they're enhancing. I don't consider, say, the 87% damage enhancement of Eradication to be a huge drawback. I DO think the 15% endurance discount of that set can be a huge drawback, but I've handled it with the Cardiac Alpha.

I won't set DPS records, but I think of it like this - I figure an average scrapper is getting roughly 1/3 of her damage from base damage, 1/3 from enhancement, and 1/3 from other. If that 1/3 from enhancement is down by 10% because you're slotting for set bonuses, you've lost closer to 3% damage from that attack. That's just not a big factor for me.

Cool. thanks guys. I appreciate the speedy feedback. It definately helps me get past this hurdle I have put in front of myself in coming up with a build.

Dead scrappers deal no damage. If the bonuses you're getting are helping keep you alive to deal damage it is very much worth the trade.

You could have the best enhanced attacks in the world, but if you spend a lot of time on the floor all that enhancement does no good at all.
