DM/SD Build Critique

Ok, hello everyone! A couple of you may have seen my thread recently in the scrapper forums with DM/SR help... well I deleted my rerolled main (hah at lvl 10) and decided to make him a DM/SD scrapper for sure. It looked a lot better IO'd out and really fun to do challenges with.

Ok first off, I've seen some pretty uber builds in the forums in here on DM/SD's... but I looked for hours on end through the forums (and maybe I missed them) but all of the builds were way out of my price range and I'm not willing to spend 10 billion inf on one toon and I didn't really find any decent ones that are relatively cheaper but are still decent with my goals in mind and powers I liked... So I made my own I want you guys to look it over because I'm not a build guru and a lot of this is new to me, but I did make sure to not abuse the "rule of 5"

My goals for the build were to hit the softcap to all positions, have at least 1.00% hp regen per second, and have decent to good recovery with the powers I've chosen ALL with NO Purples/PvP IO's/or Hami's. That's right... but this is going to be my main toon remember so I'll be doing almost everything in game with him (exemping, badge hunting, tf's etc, besides PvP) so please help me out and see if this build is ok or not and what needs to be fixed and/or have any suggestions or links to share. The Gladiator's 3% defense IO is going to cost you 2-3 billion INF. You were complaining about price and I'm guessing that one IO will put your own build out of your budget range.

You are just barely short of being able to run the top attack chain seamlessly, but that's only with the tier 4 Spiritual Alpha. Midnight Grasp needs to recharge in 4.488 seconds.

Siphon Life needs to be slotted for healing. Kinetic Combat is a bad set choice when you are over the soft-cap without it.

Double-stacking Active Defense with 3 Membranes in it is very important to my DM/SD. It ensures defense debuffs will have minimal impact on you.

Remember that the goal is to have Soul Drain on all the time. Feel free to turn it on with 1 targets hit by it when considering accuracy of your attacks. You don't need the accuracy IO in Siphon Life.



Here is a build that someone else made, but works very well with the Spiritual Alpha. You may want to change the order powers are taken if you use this for leveling. Also, the Kismet in Combat Jumping isn't really needed, so if you see a better place for that slot you can move it.

Fire Blast is a single-target attack that you probably won't ever use. Your single-target attack chain is Smite -> Midnight Grasp -> Smite -> Siphon Life. The build is designed just to run that. Fire Ball was slotted well because it does AoE damage and DM/SD is short on it.

Other than that, your build is the same as the one I posted.

Well, I tried but I could only slot fire blast for that extra recharge because I wouldn't get fireball until lvl 49 and wouldn't have the slots... it seemed like I either had to do that or had to switch to mu mastery so what do you think I should do if I should slot for the aoe attack?

Take Maneuvers at 38 and One with the Shield at 49.

Not at all. While leveling you could put that Steadfast IO into True Grit then respec it into OwtS later. Additionally, it being level 30 will mean that it will give you +3% defense even if you exemp down to level 27. So getting an even lower level IO would be beneficial for your defense.

A lot of Shield Defense's defense comes from set bonuses. On most characters, I don't bother with sets until I can slot level 50 enhancements. I feel that the lower enhancement value is not good enough at times.

Don't worry about being at the soft-cap while you level. You should be around 32.5% defense from your two main toggles and Weave. Then, you can use a small defense inspiration to reach 45%. Just keep combining while you play so you will have enough for longer missions, and stock up on them when you are at a hospital. There are even macros to make it easier to combine inspirations.
