Vet powers/badges purchasable? Hope not

As a guy who has been with the game since the beginning and haven made sure to go through and get all the pertinent badges that reflect my time as a veteran within the Coh community, I am certainly hoping that these items will not be purchasable.

I am not saying this to be an elitist but it may come off that way. I think there is something to be said to the loyalty of someone who has been here for X amount of time. I haven't read anything on this and didn't see any threads about it yet so I hope I am not double posting.

Well, I imagine it's changing with the new Paragon Rewards system.

Quote:
Paragon Rewards gives you credit for every single month you are a VIP player, not every three. In addition, purchasing Paragon Points for use in the Paragon Market will improve your Paragon Rewards standing. You'll be able to select from all the rewards that you to could find in the Veteran Rewards in the Paragon Rewards program and new rewards exclusive to the Paragon Rewards program, as well! In addition, you can choose which rewards you receive every time you earn a new one.
So, at least, indirectly, you'll be able to buy your rank up the new reward system, and I imagine get the badges/etc.

There have been a few clues dropped amongst all the info given out this week...
The new veteran rewards program (Paragon Rewards) will be a tiered system. Only certain things will be open on certain tiers.

They have also said (though I can't track down the exact post atm) that you will not lose any of your badges or any of the perks associated with those badges.

I'm guessing that an account will have to qualify for a tier based on their accumulation of Reward Tokens. I imagine this would be accomplished by the game keeping a running total on your account in the background.

They have said that more details regarding the new veteran program (Paragon Rewards) will be forthcoming in the next week or so.

Is this your opinion or fact? I would prefer facts at this point. Speculation means jack squat.

I cannot see why someone would want to purchase an 84-month Vet badge, although I *can* see wanting to purchase Vet rewards like the "City Traveler" badge, as well as the +5 Salvage, +5 Recipe, and +5 Auction House slots.

That goes for the reward which lets you get your major travel power without having to get the first two tiers, and the "Fog of War" remover.

I think that the rewards themselves should be available through Paragon Points, but the 3-month badges (all the way up to 84-months+) have to be earned. I hope that the badges will continue to be issued to us in 3-month increments. I luvz my shinies!

I actually don't see what he is saying as being a jerk. Speculation does mean jack squat. I mean, Yay! Opinions, and all that. But that doesn't help. Any solid facts out there about that? As much as I'd love to have the badges, I wouldn't want to buy them. Everything else? Yeah, I support buying the powers. I never thought that some of the rewards were at appropriate times. Boxer at such a late time? Who even wants to be a boxer, or use the boxer parts? That should have been in the martial arts pack or something instead. (I'm sure some people have interest in playing boxers or using the parts, but it's surely fairly low in the populations interest.) There are a few things that early on were great, but I doubt that people would pick them if they had a choice. I know there are things I would have gotten instead of a few of them.

2 - Futher to the question already asked, with Veteran Rewards being replaced by Paragon Rewards, will the VR badges become PR badges and still be awarded, will they be stopped but allowing players to catch up with the remaining badges, or will they simply cease to continue at a certain point meaning that players who don't have the VR badges and rewards won't be able to get them?

Is the Positron quote w/ context. My read on it is pretty much only speculation at this point, I can see arguments made pretty easily for either indirect purchase of the badge or maintaining the status quo. My personally perception is that they'll either be directly purchasable or indirectly purchasable.

I would still appreciate a timestamp for a ustream claim though .

i think it was mentioned in the 2nd freedom ustream, the one with second measure and clockwork 01 as the guests (it might have been brought up in the first one as well, but definitely that one, i havent gotten a chance to see the 3rd one with posi and war witch as guests

I wasn't being a jerk, but I could see how that could come across as being snippy. It wasn't intended that way at all. But thanks for the vote of confidence.

The reason I said what I said was because, there are many opinions out there and no one can provide a link with definitive information. A simple yes or no statement would suffice. But no one has shown a redname say that the vet badges can or can not be purchased. We have people mentioning they "think" they heard something on uStream, but I've watched every uStream cast, and I've yet to hear this mentioned like others claim they have.

I've yet to see a redname say yes, you can or no you can't. It's all speculation, just like I speculate that you will be able to buy them either directly or indirectly with the Paragon Points and or the Reward Tokens. But from what I've gathered is, no one has the answer to this as of yet. So I will sit here and wait for that answer from a redname.

But please, if you can provide a direct link to a redname stating you can not directly or indirectly purchase these badges, please provide me and everyone else the link. I think many of us would like to know.

Ok on the second day of uStream there was a very short segment that mentioned they will not be selling badges. So that answers the question of will the store sell badges directly. And the answer was no.

Now the only question left is... If you can't use the points to buy badges directly, which was already established. I would have to say the badges can be awarded through the Tiered / Tree System. Which would mean using Reward Tokens. Now depending on how these Tokens are obtained will answer the question if we can still in a indirect way buying them.

For example...

  1. Are we awarded reward tokens each month for being a ViP? If not, how do we get them?
  2. Can you convert Paragon Points to Reward Tokens?
  3. Can Tokens be bought directly?
  4. Do you have to buy (X) amount of Paragon Points to earn a Reward Token?
  5. Do you have to spend (X) amount of Paragon Points to earn the Reward Tokens.
Answering any of these question will give us the answer. So we'll have to wait for the uStream to talk about this or a redname comes to the forums and answers it for us.

If questions 2-5 yields a yes answer then that'll tell us we can in fact buy the Vet badges in a indirect way. Meaning if I dump enough money into the new Paragon Market, I could in a indirect way purchase all of the Vet badges on a new account.

So, you get Reward Tokens over time for subscribing and Reward Tokens for buying PP. Also, if you subscribe for a year (and pay up front), you'll get all 12 reward tokens right away, without having to wait.

So, Reward Tokens seem to be directly linked to the amount of money you have put into the game. (i.e. Vet rewards where the time element is removed) So, it seems the old vet rewards will be indirectly buyable.

Well, I guess that answers our question.

Thanks for the quote linking to that information Dr_Darkspeed.

Well, thanks to whoever received or found this info. But for those who woud like to read here is the quote...

So putting the subscription aside, just by purchasing Paragon Points earning the bonus Reward Tokens allows you to unlock the rewards thus giving you the badges,

So yes, you can indirectly purchase the Veteran Badges, but you can't just buy them from the Paragon Market. And I'm totally fine with this. I'm not upset nor depressed about it. I actually like the idea that you can do this, now people can get caught up if they so chose and can get what perks they want by unlocking the badge. Now unless you can get the perk without unlocking the badge then that's even better

Yes, I agree. It sounds pretty fair and certainly a big improvement on people having to wait 3 years to wear boxing gloves.

Also, from this:

You don't even need to spend these Reward tokens to get the unlock.
It seems like there is an additional set of rewards/perks based on how many other rewards you have recieved. It's a reward system for a reward system!

I do like the new system, this will allow my older-than-dirt characters to be caught up in badges, and help my badge hunter (ice/ice/ice dom ^^). Not sure why such a fuss was made over this anyway. A Badge is just a badge.

I think the bolded part is a leap...
I read it as the veteran perks/powers are indirectly purchasable, not the badges themselves.

As was indicated in another thread, the new system is going to be tiered where certain things (badges?) will unlock automatically with each tier.

It would be nice to have some clarification on it, though.
