Missing Character

Okay, about two weeks ago my main character, Cyber Sunset on the Virtue server, vanished. I don't know if it's related, but I noticed the absence a day or two after participating in a Praetorian Surge on Triumph. (Since it's an entirely different server, I wouldn't expect them to be related, though.) I sent a query about it then, and got a form response saying it had been received, and then no further reply.

A week later, I sent a second bug report, and got the same response.

Should I...keep sending bug reports? Should I wait and hope that they'll get back to me eventually instead of just forgetting about my issue? Should I...give up hope that I'll ever see my level 50 broadsword/regen scrapper again?

Update your original request, don't keep sending new requests. All it does is get shuffled to the back of the line.

I would try deleting the file that stores the order of characters on the character select screen. That file seems to be able to cause all sorts of problems for people when it gets corrupted. It might be causing that character to not show up somehow.

Edit: The file in question is [CoH install directory]\[Account name]\playerslot.txt

So if my account name was Supernumiphone, and CoH was installed in the default directory on Windows XP, the file would be C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\Supernumiphone\playerslot.txt

Deleting the file doesn't harm your game install in any way. It will reset the order of your characters on your select screen to their default though, so you'll have to drag them around to re-order them to how you like them. If you just want to test if that is the problem, you could always rename the file instead of deleting it. Then once you've confirmed or denied that it is the cause of the problem, you could put it back if you wanted.

I tried moving the text file to a different directory instead of deleting it. Now, however, rather than bringing back Cyber Sunset it just moved all the characters up a space and filled in his gap. :-(

However, Cyber Sunset's name does appear in the file with the number 0 near it. Perhaps if I replaced that and changed it to 1, or something?

If you are sending it in as a /bug report you will never get a response. /bug just just goes toward correcting problems in the program, not problems that specific players are having. You want to be using /petition to report it.

And I just checked the name on Virtue. It is available which means your character has definitely been deleted. Have you by chance ever given your password to somebody else? A family member that shares the account? Somebody who might be annoyed with you? Most the time when a character mysteriously vanishes it had help from somebody who was angry or thought it would be funny.
