Dark Melee/Fire?
There is redundant, and there is stacking ridiculous amounts of power.
This combo has two heals, two endurance recovery powers, Soul Drain, strong ST damage, nice burst PBAoE damage from Burn and Blazing Aura, decent mez protection, and mediocre defenses.
Its greatest weaknesses stem from Fiery Armor lacking overall resistance, and Dark Melee not offering some kind of mitigation.
Slotting for Recharge and defense will take care of a lot of your problems, especially if you take Soul Mastery and get Shadow Meld.
I guess I would compare a fully finished DM/Fire with some sort of defense softcap to a DM/Shield in terms of overall DPS. It may lack Against All Odds, but Burn recharges a lot faster than Shield Charge.
Too many alts to list.
Ive asked this question myself.
First, most people feel this is a better combo for a brute. Im not a number cruncher, but it has to do with heals and a few other reasons; and I agreed when the info was presented. The double heals would really help the squishiness for /fa. Also, the damage output from combining soul drain and fiery embrace with burn and blaze aura should be fantastic. You would then have some of the best st attacks from your dm/ side.
The reason I did not go with this combo is because its still seemed a bit to squishy in mids for my liking and because I already have a dm/wp scrapper. It got some very positive reviews from folks, so I might just try the combo someday myself.

Correct in one!
Yes, dm/fire has a lot of horsepower. But, it is a VERY clicky combo. You have to have reflexes to play one well.
In addition, yes, this is a MUCH better combo on a brute, where the extra hitpoints give you some time to react, and the fury boost to the dot's really adds up.
Even with burn it's a little light on AOE power, but the single target punch can be....extreme. Saturated Soul Drain + Fury + Fiery Embrace puts up some gigantic numbers.
And on a brute, Siphon Life can actually provide a pretty large ability to sustain incoming damage, while healing flames becomes the 'uhoh' button.
But, be aware, it's a VERY busy combo: A moments inattention can and will kill ya.
Was just curious of how this combo is. Alot of the power seem redundant. :/
