Not Game-Specific Hardware Question

This is sort of off-topic tech support but I know a lot of people on this forum have various knowledge and I couldn't find specifically what I'm looking for. I know that a lot of our gamers have tricks and are savvy at various things regarding this type of question.

I bought a new keyboard, an intl layout. Some of the keys are reassigned, one specifically is the left shift key. Its very shortened with a secondary key next to it, much like the original IBM keyboards.

According to this topic the binary scancode for this key should be "Next to L-Shift 56 E0". I have tried reassigning this added key (\|) using that scancode, it does not work. I have tried to see if it is using the same scancode as the default \| key (2B 00), by remapping the scancode for it, and its not the same scancode.

I basically would just like to reassign this key (\| next to left shift) as an extended left shift key, to duplicate a standard keycap length instead of the shortened left shift keycap.

Is anyone aware or does anyone have any tricks for capturing the binary scancode of a keypress so I could remap this little hassle?

I hope I explained it throughly enough. If anyone needs further clarification let me know. Thank you in advance.
