Traps/DP Build Review

Hola Defenders,


My current obsession is a traps/dp defender that I'd like to run high end content with. Primarily I'll be teamed but I also like to head off solo for H-Merit mission and other misc adventures. Ideally, I wanted to first get softcapped to S/L/E/N types followed by as much +recharge as I could afford. The set omits Purple sets for the most part and the Glad proc +def is also sadly out of range. I've included my build below for your review. Please let me know how I can hit the E/N softcap. My build here takes me to 37.5%. A small purple away but it annoys me that I wasn't able to 45% it. Thanks.

Okay, it's always kind of tricky when someone asks for a build that meets just one criterion since you don't mention how attached you are to particular power choices.

Below is a build that you would probably want to tweak, but it softcaps all positional defense so E/N doesn't need to be capped. It does raise your E/N defese to 42.1% so it's an improvement. It also has a much higher recharge than your build at 153%, and if you are hoping to solo content this is a tremendous benefit to your damage output.

Plainguy, the original poster seems to have wandered off since they haven’t replied to any of the posts in this thread. I agree with you that full positional defense cap is the best way to go. The only possible exception might be something obscure like “I am only going to be running MA farms in which S/L/E/N is the only kind of damage.” It’s far more likely that Organicide doesn’t understand how typed vs. positional defense works and has come to an incorrect conclusion about the best strategy for the build.

Hey Guys,

Sorry I was AFK. I started a new job and things have been rather hectic for me these past few weeks. Thank you all for your replys, input and responses. I do understand the difference between Typed and Positional Defenses. The reason I was looking @ S/L/E/N softcaps was due to Scorpian Shield. I simply figured (incorrectly) that it wouldn't be possible to get all 3 positional defenses to softcap and decided to shoot for what I thought was the next best thing in typed defense. So my bad there. My Traps/DP is now Level 40 and I expect to start io'ing him shortly. If I like him from that point on I'll hit the incarnates. I'm leaning towards spirtitual for Alpha slot as softcapping takes away from some of the +Recharge I'd like to speed up traps dispersal.

Organicide, congrats on leveling-up to your new job!

Yes, you can get complete positional defense at the soft-cap, which for me is one of the most attractive things about this build. Let us know how you like this character when you IO him out. I am considering restarting my Traps/DP defender (currently just at level 30) as a DP/Traps corrupter for the extra damage, but this is a tough call.

DP/Traps sounds nice too. The reason(s) I went defender over corruptor was/is the higher buff/debuff #s. I plan to mostly team with this toon and wanted to bring that aspect of mitigation to the team and getting PGT and Shield drone before level 12 was just too tempting to pass up.

This is my Traps AR build for comparison, hope it helps. I can solo 4/8 settings with it before incarnate. After incarnate, well lets just say between Ion and Full Auto its pretty disgusting ( in a good way ).

I looked at the number for putting Ragnarok into Full Auto and for the 1.5 second decrease and the 3 point DPS increase it just didn't make sense money wise. Any other set bonuses I picked up from Ragnarok ended up not making a big difference with my other powers as well. Cutting 1 second or half a second off a power is not worth the value that Ragnarok cost.

The 530% regeneration is a good number to help you heal up between hits.
