So I completed all my 50s I felt like and I've been leveling this chick. She just hit 50 and I'm looking at this for her final-ish build.
43% S/L Def without much change to the build for recharge.
2 second downtime on Hasten
Perma Dom
Sleet!

Knocked out the enzymes since I don't care enough about defense to waste the ones I have saved.

Chaos, Impale really sucks. Thorn Barrage is far far better.

You also give up the goodness -def sets get with damage procs.
You can fit at least 3 procs in EACH attack, with a -def attack set, and its wonderful.

When I get home tonight, I will transform my Earth/Thorns/Mace build into a Plant/Thorns/ice build and post it. Should still have perma hasten/Softcap while getting in some multiproc Attacks.

seeds needs a lv50 common range IO, and not having roots is like willingly handicapping yourself. i cant speak about thorns without showing my dislike for the set so i will leave that for someone else.

edit: also, people over-exaggerate the usefulness of proc'ing carrion creepers. double proc'd roots is better.

redraw. long animations. imo the set peaks with fling thorns. but mostly redraw.

I have a lvl 50 Plant/Thorns Dom who is fairly purpled out, has a fair bit of incarnate stuff completed, and I'm finding myself in agreement. I really really wish I had gone with Plant/Fire like I had thought about. It's not terrible, but whenever I play her I think about how much better she would be as a /fire. I originally picked /thorn for a combination of theme and the fact that I thought the -def would make seeds that much more useful. I expect it does, but at lvl 50, everything dies so fast anyways, it doesn't seem to make much difference. I'm stuck with redraw, plus I find the knockback on thorn barrage to be rather annoying.

Whoops I made a plant thorns, but i think I pasted the mind thorns from the other thread.

The redraw really isn't that great I agree, but the fact that you can fill this set with Damage procs (and make wonderful use of reactive on Thorntrops) really shines in this set.

No other dominator secondary makes use of interface like thorns.


When something good happens to me, I can never enjoy it....
I am always too busy looking for the inevitable punchline...

building for defense on a plant dom seems silly to me tbh. seeds of confusion is a quick activating 100% mitigation tool with permadom. my dom has recently picked up(since the advent of purples/basilisk gaze) spore burst for emergency add/ambush situations along with vines but seeds is your bread and butter every spawn control. i threw together a cheaper build than yours using weave instead of all that kinetic combat expensiveness, but my thorns experience is limited since i only took one to the mid 30s before deleting it. permahasten, not quite enough rech for permadom w/o hasten(15-20% shy) and 45+% s/l def. for incarnate i would take musculature core t4, whichever reactive thats 75% dmg proc, and rebirth as an oshiii- button.
