well, my school laptop decided to install updates while I was doing homework, and locked up word when I was halfway done.

Ouch! 
Ours install updates at the end of the day and I have had more than one occasion when I leave work 45 minutes after I clock out because the computer is still shutting down. That would really suck to have the updates going in the middle of something else though.
Oh, the updates failed, and rebooted it, and because the updates failed, it wouldn't load into windows, just give me a black screen.
