No, they're basically the same, so you can't double up on them, at least for the major ones. You can, though, switch sides so that you can unlock them the easiest way possible (i.e. Demonic is fairly easy to get, while the Hero equivlent is a royal pain... at least it was last I looked).

Also, if you already have an accolade and switch sides, it automatically grants you the badge for the opposite side's equivelant.
It doesn't give you twice the buff, just the badge. So if your character is a badge collector, it would be a good idea to switch at least once to collect hem.
