Time for Market and Inf Revamp

True.
Here's the thing, it doesn't even need to be marketeers. If the price cap for an item is less than the natural market price then the supply on the market will dry up and sales will go off market. It doesn't really matter if the people buying them are buying them for resale or their own use the supply will dry up either way.
|
And if the supply dries up, the only ones available will be the ones the marketeers bought for resale.
In either case the end result is the same, whether it is intentional market cornering, or simply people buying them to use.

The "fast and easy" (sometimes) way might be dry (the market,) but just playing the game will get whatever drops/salvage you want, either directly or via various types of merits.

The amount of stuff about the game which it is possible for even long-time players of this game to NOT know is staggering - and increases with every issue.

The other day I got my MA/SR Scrapper to level 47 and in order to deck him out with several IO sets it cost me over 2000 merits, and about 1.5 Billion inf and there is not a single purple on him. NOT ONE. I stripped all the inf from my other characters and had them use their reward merits to "buy" some of his recipes and emailed them to him, took about eight hours total.

Wow! Sounds like you spent way too much to IO out a single character with all non-purple sets.
I think it cost me all total under 400 million inf to IO out not one, but 2 Assault Rifle/Traps Corruptors. Granted, I'm not counting what I could have made off the half dozen or so alignment merits I spent on a few pieces that weren't available at a price (if at all) that I was comfortable with.
Sure, it took about 2 or 3 days off and on, but I managed to get everything needed by putting out bids (in many cases, lowball bids at that) and waiting. Go for a range of levels instead of just sticking with one and only one IO level. My range I did was 33 to 38 (my corruptor went for the 33 to 35 range and my partner was happy with the 35 to 38 range).
For the few pieces that took longer than the others to get, SOs or generic IOs filled in those slots in the interim.
Also ended up with several extra pieces that other alts will eventually need, or that could then get crafted and resold for a nice profit.

Okay, the only ones available FOR SALE that don't involve merits you may not have, or playing for an indeterminate amount of time until it drops for you.

I was specifically talking about the market supply. I am very well aware that we can do tip missions or use reward merits to get something. But, when you have enough cash that you could have afforded one before a price cap was implemented and there are none for sale at any level it is bound to be damn frustrating.
If they implement a price cap, they might as well remove the market altogether and make it a store that buys and sells everything for the same price.
And the people who have more than you.....will still have more than you, so it doesn't solve the OPs problem at all.

I think that a personal market cap would help a great deal and not effect other players and their market experience very much at all.
The Devs should cap the prices for my global. The server could just manufacture w/e difference between the actual listing price of an item and my market cap and pay that to whomever I am buying stuff from.
I get the cheap purples and PvPIOs and the market doesn't get broked from universal market caps.
WINNING!
Wow, brains too!
The point being I don't really care if I make money off the market, I play the game to be a superhero, not a stockbroker.
Most of the time the item in question nets me quite a bit more than vendoring it would, so I'm more or less happy with it.
I put my builds together a little bit at a time. It takes me about 30 levels before I really decide if I'm going to go all out on IOing a given character, so I start planning ahead when I get to that point. That way I don't find myself in the situation of "Wow, I need to get a billion influence worth of stuff right away to finish my build", because chances are I've been sitting on the stuff I need for a while already.
See, it's gems like these that make me check Claws' post history every once in a while to make sure I haven't missed anything good lately.
